Bad Blood 2 - The Pearl vs The Luuuv Sponge

Shawn was a little out of line as a commentator.

But Earl was ridiculous as a competitor.

While Johnny was running his 140, Earl was waving his arms, yapping to the crowd, complaining about how long Johnny was taking (he wasn't). He was sitting in his chair and jumping up when any ball rattled. Complaining about the pocket sizes by forming his arms into a "V". Then he talked and talked to the audience during his run, mainly complaining about how slow johnny was playing while "making me miserable".

I don't know why the ref or the sponsors would allow this behavior. Earl is an impolite player with terrible manners. Earl is not a gentleman or sportsman.

If you are truly a friend of Earl, why don't you suggest that he work on his sportsmanship? Earl should be a legend - instead, he's disrespected. He seems to know it too - yet, he keeps acting surprised people are rooting against him.

Chris

What match did you watch, Archer could not see Earl's hand, if he could he should of said something.
Earl didn't talk to anyone during Archer's inning.
Archer acted alot worse then Earl this weekend.
He brought pros to mock Earl, to witch Earl laughed at and even took a picture.
Seems to be, even when Earl acts right he get the shaft.

I am by no means saying Earl is a angel all the time, but this weekend he was not the bad one.

OK. Shawn is only a "little out of line" but Earl is ridiculous. Give me a break. He was putting his hands up in the air and Johnny could not see it or even hear it. I was sitting less then 2 feet from Earl and he kept asking and/or telling me stuff about the table.

I just nodded my head because I didn't want to get into a discussion right then. But it was not loud or distracting was it? I mean JA ran 140 balls..... JA did NOT say a work about Earl. But somehow it is bothering the railbirds sitting in their skivvies watching on the internet 2000 miles away???

Why do the sponsors put up with it? I mean really dude, do you not get it? The sponsors had front row seating, they put the match up, they provided the prize money, and they wanted Earl to be there and they LOVED Earl. They got to meet him, talked to him, get autographs, and have front row seats to a great event.

Earl entertained everyone before the matches. He talking about the Shane match and how he "set Shane up like a bowling pin" on that 5x10.

And nobody was rooting against him I can tell you that. The fans cheered both men's great play. There was one instance that a fan cheered when Earl missed, but I can tell you that was an accident, the guy thought Earl made the shot. It was one of the sponsors kids (early 20's guy)

I drove Earl to his hotel after the straight pool match and I had another friend that was suppose to come up with me to watch, but he could not make it. So I called him on my cell phone and handed it to Earl. I told Earl that this guy wanted to come but could not make it. Earl grabbed the phone and spoke with him for 5 solid minutes about the match and calling my buddy a "fool" for not coming with. It was hysterical to say the least. I think my buddy owes me a few beers for that one !! (hint hint)

You don't have to like anyone, but just seems strange that folks need to keep repeating themselves over and over what they don't like. I hate asparagus, but I'm not going to keep boring folks about it. Before anyone calls me a "hugger" this was only the second time I ever met Earl, and don't think he remembers the first time!!

Hmmmm

After many many years and reading thru 1000s of posts I finally decided that certain individuals need to be recognized in our community....

With that said I would like to congratulate CANWIN on winning the first ever "Nit of the Week Award"!!!

It was a hard fought battle but sit back and enjoy your day in the sun because you definately deserve it.......:clapping::clapping::clapping:

Yes, well earned indeed. But please hold the acceptance speech !

Hmmmm

What sayeth pool streamers and promoters. Can anyone get Shawn Putnam to man up and play Earl Strickland after his yap fest Sunday? Nothing I would love to see any more the Archer's caddy get a can of whoop ass opened on him and the smacketh layed down by The Pearl himself. :bash:

Come on Big Bubba Putnam step up and play the great Earl Strickland instead of running your mouth at a comentary booth! :yeah:

Except they would have to change the name of the event from "Bad Blood" to Blood Bath, cause that is what it would be. Earl wins easily, and even lets a few local bangers take some of his shots for him just to rub it in.

Shawn is a cool guy though and obviously new to the "boothe"........Couldn't have been nicer to the fans and stuff. So props to him for that. PHotos, autographs, he was cool with anything......

Oh man, I'm busted. Now the azb trolls are gonna insult my good looks too...lol.

Hey, I remember you. You were the tall dude hanging with "Popcorn" (the guy right of Earl in the photo for those that don't know him)

Did you come up there with Popcorn ??

Regardless of what ANYONE personally thinks of how Earl acts, NO ONE can deny that he is one of the best to EVER hold a cue. This isn't an opinion, this is a fact that no one can prove otherwise. If you don't like how he acts, don't watch. I'm personally tired of the Earl bashing. If you don't like how he acts, don't watch(is there an echo)...sounds pretty simple. Just do us all a favor and watch The Luuuuv Sponge.

This year at derby city, you know they have all the best players in the world there, well you have svb here, over there is mika, busty, you get my point, but all the pool fans and players are all going up to earl for pictures and autographs, and earl turns no one down, and every body is happy joking and laughing with earl, earl is great with all his fans,i guess when he is playing a match,he just cant keep his emotions in, wheather they are mean are nice, but i have seen him be so nice to so many people at tournaments, and then he starts playing pool and just loses it,but deep down inside i think earl is a very caring and good man,i was earl biggest fan, until that first nite with svb,and i said somethings about earl i shouldnt of said, but i was pissed at the time, but after last week, earl has me back as a fan again,i thought earl acted pretty darn good and played outstanding!

Yow Popcorn's my buddy.Sorry for busting you like that.lol
I got to reading your post and i thought ,this was the guy with Earl that i took a picture of.
What a match we saw, both guys played great.
You Know i have never talked with Earl before and after getting to sit with him and talk to him a little, the guy comes off very different than when he's playing.Very open person and easy to talk with. I really feel a lot of people would change there view on Earl if ever got to talk with him, i know i have.

Take Care...

Not ADD

If that's Earl's problem, there's not much they can do for it. They might give them some very unpleasant stimulants (they work in reverse on ADD sufferers) and if something made Earl relax a little more, then that same thing might cause him to play bad pool. I think he's done the best with it he can at the table, he just needs to figure work on how to be calm when he's off the table. Adults who have ADD try all kinds of things to stop the mental distractions. Alcohol and drug use are very common.

My friend overcame his own focus issues by achieving a calming zen-like mental state. He can't easily turn it on, so he plays bad for awhile then shifts into laser-like focus and plays awesome pool.

Here's some info off an ADD website. Remember, people with ADD can also totally become absorbed by an activity. Earl uses it to his advantage on the table. This is just the behavior and emotional aspects - there's a lot more to it. I myself probably have a mild case of it.

Common adult ADD / ADHD symptoms: Impulsivity

If you suffer from symptoms in this category, you may have trouble inhibiting your behaviors, comments, and responses. You might act before thinking, or react without considering consequences. You may find yourself interrupting others, blurting out comments, and rushing through tasks without reading instructions. If you have impulse problems, being patient is extremely difficult. For better or for worse, you may go headlong into situations and find yourself in potentially risky circumstances. You may struggle with controlling impulses if you:

frequently interrupt others or talk over them
have poor self-control
blurt out thoughts that are rude or inappropriate without thinking
have addictive tendencies
act recklessly or spontaneously without regard for consequences
have trouble behaving in socially appropriate ways (such as sitting still during a long meeting)

Common adult ADD / ADHD symptoms: Emotional difficulties

Many adults with ADD/ADHD have a hard time managing their feelings, especially when it comes to emotions like anger or frustration. Common emotional symptoms of adult ADD/ADHD include:

sense of underachievement
doesn’t deal well with frustration
easily flustered and stressed out
irritability or mood swings
trouble staying motivated
hypersensitivity to criticism
short, often explosive, temper
low self-esteem and sense of insecurity

Earl doesn't have ADD. He is Bi-Polar. It is a disorder with extreme mood changes. Most don't like the Meds used for it, because it duds you out. You can rest assured that Earl would not have won all that he has, if he would have been medicated all these years. He would not had the drive needed to do all he has done. I have two blood relatives with the same disorder and they have gone on and off they're meds from the beginning, which was in they're late teens.
Both now mid 40's

If that's the case, why are you even wasting your time (and ours) posting in this thread?

Because I like ruffling all you ducks feathers ..
For all round entertainment , if given a choice, I'd rather watch someone like him than someone who puts me to sleep. It's when he's down in a game that he resorts to his other game that to me gets old and repetitious. It's like a comedian doing the same show..
When he's down in a game is when he'll act his worst and that's the point I'm making. He's training all you ducks to accept that kind of behavior..

Not only do I accept it but I will pay cold hard cash to see it every chance I get.

If you think the match was fixed maybe you should take it up with the promoter. If you don't like Earl to each his own. In your real world why don't you go rant to someone who actually cares as I couldn't give a shit what you think. I wouldn't expect no less comming from someone who stated above he don't gamble that all you play is leagues. LOL, I'm surprised a superior league player like yourself even knows who JA or Earl is from the peanut gallery. Consider that in your spare time.

I wouldn't say the match is fixed, but I'll say that it's a coinsedense(sp?) that the 4 guys that were on the road together were involved. 2 playing, one in the booth, and 1 who promoted. There's a money chop somewhere don't you think. If you haven't been a roadplayer, you wouldn't know these things..
I don't like the behavior at times, not the man. I see what he does but it's all entertainment right(so it's all good) by me. In a real situation, this behavior wouldn't have a good outcome at times(but this has been hashed and rehashed). He's in his protected environment so anything goes as far as all you ducks are concerned.
You want to bet something where I said I was a league player and didn't gamble.. I know you don't want to go there.

I'd play Earl a long set on a 5x10. The only rule would be we'd both have to use a regular house cue and he'd have to wear ear muffs, a muzzle, and a straight jacket between innings .. Let's get it on!

No I don't make challenges to people I'm likely never to meet behind a computer screen and I won't be in the 4's bracket at the APA nationals so I guess that rules out that option too.

And there is the answer to all your posts, at least on this subject.

Stirring the stuff. Happens on all forums. Not surprised.

Yep, just stirring the pot. All this Earl this and Earl that. These ducks need a good stir every now and then. I don't post that often but anytime Earl makes a bowel movement, there's 10 days of threads about it..so why not give them back some of their own sh..
