The shorter cues were used for straight rail or other forms of biliards where the butt of the cue had to be elevated during the game. The shortest one I have ever owned was approximately 53 1/2 inchs long with a Leather wrap.
Take Care Tommy
Yeah, that's kind of what I guessed based on the first 'intelligent' response my original post (you can see my agreement and admission of ignorance if you read my above post).
Craig, you know me. I've never claimed to be an expert at ANYTHING. I posted this thread simply to warn people that this cue was no good for a conversion, as it's short. (edited to add: the splice starts too low)
I hate to bring this up, but as you know, anyone like myself or you, who's outspoken and willing to state their opinion, will have a little gnat or two chewing at their hindside, simply because they mentioned some bit of truth that the gnat didn't like having to face in themselves. Tommy is one of my many gnats. He's made some really stupid-ass comments about cuemaking, leading me to believe he fancies himself a cuemaker. I've called him out on his ignorant pomposity more than a few times. As a result, he's going to pop in and pop off any chance he gets. We can only hope that his mother is supervising while he plays with his lathe.
Thanks for your input. I'm outta here after responding to Nick - this was a public service announcement, not a gnat-whistle.
