Well it's a very happy birthday when your wife buys you a ball ploisher!! She knew I was tired of hand polishing so bless her heart she purchased a BallStar polisher. It really does look like a quality machine however, without being too selfish I really thought the Diamond polisher was my first choice. She's OK with sending it back and getting the Diamond but, before I agree can anyone tell me thier experience with the Ballstar? I really want an honest appraisal. After 34 years together sending a birthday gift back is OK just ackward from my position. Help!!

Quite a few of the rooms around DC have the Ballstars and they seem fine.

The Toyota will get you there at the same time as the Mercedes!

I need one too! Hand polishing SUCKS!

They both do an excellent job. The diamond is much nicer looking, built like a tank and quiet.

Diamond wins by a nose IMO. As BB mentions, the Ballstar does a fine job polishing.

And I was thinking of the single platter. The double platter is in a galaxy of its own...in more ways than one.

Well put! The Diamond is quiet and nice looking. For those who can't afford either, another alternative is the $40 ball bucket that you can build from parts at Home Depot.

Waldo probably had the Mercedes, but Spanky and the gang rolled around in this (ball bucket).

Isn't the Ballstar more than the Diamond? I've been thinking about getting one as well.

Thanks. Still don't quite know which to install. The Ballstar came with shipping included and they are both around the $450 number. My oh My...what to do. Perhaps a bird in the hand is worth more than return postaage and shipping on a Diamond?

I have the ballstar. It is more compact than the diamond it is solid but not as industrial. I paid like 350 for mine either is a fine choice.

You must have a fine wife

I like my BallStar. Also I got the clubhouse I play at to get one. It works very well. No complaints. Do not over wet the small pad with the green liquid cleaner. You will enjoy the BallStar.but if you want the Diamond go for it. It's your present. Mine was a B-day present also. I'm 100% satisfied. Enjoy....and Happy Birthday.

I bought a Ballstar about three years ago and I can tell you that it is a first class heavy duty machine.I love mine.Be sure to order a six blade impeller if you're a three cushion player or eight for pool players.

I like my BallStar. My problem is that it sits in the barn where my pool table is located. There is a hole in the bottom (I guess where excess fluid can leak out) that a tiny mouse decided to explore and it ended up setting up operations there. He chewed off a small amount of the rubber cleaner.

Same thing happened to my car. I made the mistake of leaving the outside air flow switch on and a mouse climbed up in my fan. I thought something was broken with my fan, but upon taking it apart I found the mouse with his freaking little neck broken. :grin-square:

Diamond Bal Polisher

As a disclaimer, I am a partner in Diamond so I am biased!

We use the Diamond double platter - for hours and hours on end at all of our events.
It is a commercial piece of equipment.
But it is also the better of the two polishers.

It is very heavy duty - and yet friendly to fix in the event of a problem.
The platters are offset - meaning the balls 'tumble' when the turn, therefore polishing the entire ball and not just the 'track'.

I just looked up Ballstar - and they are up to $550 range1
Just too much money for a plastic 8-ball unit.

To be honest, I have not seen the newer models and I am sure this and the older model work fine for a home or whatever - but the Diamond is almost bullet proof.

I feel (from overseeing about 10 million balls being polished) that the Diamond is the best polisher ever built.

Also, from a commercial side, it is much easier to load and unload the Diamond machine than the Ballstar.

I agree. I've owned a BallStar for the closer part of a decade. There are two models of the BallStar; one looks like a crockpot with the controls mounted directly on the sidewall; the other looks like a blender with the controls mounted on an outcropping at the bottom.

I have the latter -- the blender-looking model. And even though I sometimes will look at the Diamond polisher with fawning eyes, I realize that this is the only time I do this -- all the other times, I'm very, very satisfied with my BallStar. The price differential between the two is significant, and that has to enter into your decision.

For the OP -- if you do get one, make sure you order yourself spare pads, and a good amount of the green cleaning solution. Because those are the only things you're going to go through with the BallStar -- it is a RELIABLE machine that will serve you for years to come!

And yes, any significant other that: 1.) recognizes and embraces her lesser half's hobbies so, and 2.) gifts her lesser-half such a fine gift, is a keeper!

Thanks for all the really good comments and opinions. Yes, I agree that a wife that supports her other half and shows interest in his is a pretty special lady. I'm very fortunate for sure. The ballstar ran about $450 and included cleaner, bottle dispenser, two extra pads and shipping was also free so... knowing that there are many users of this system I feel much more comfortable unpacking it and getting it set up tonight after work and before league. thanks to all for posting. I appreciate it.

Mike Maaen.

i hope you enjoy your ballcleaner - and am sure you will!

The important thing is that you play the game and enjoy it.

It is much more enjoyable when the equipment is in good working condition - and no matter what products you buy, you are supporting the industry.

And that is a GOOD thing!!!

I also own and use a ballstar. Mine is the newer model and it works great and seems to be a high quality machine, which i expect to last for a long time. Im sure the diamond cleaners are also a quality product. But all i can say is i am glad i purchased the ballstar.

I got mine last year. Quick quiet and easy to use. It'll take off most everything and make the set look like new.

I say most everything because I have a Diamond Pro/Am and the pockets leave the occasional black mark on the balls that requires a little extra attention.
