Bandido's cues

LOL, do you play Mah Jong?
Oh yeah! I love it, I got a nice set that my friend brought back for me from Vietnam. I learned to play from another friend that is Thai. None of my friends here play, or want to take the time to learn so I play on Yahoo.

It's good to know there's appreciation for the game from somebody from a different continent. I think I'll make myself a Mah Jong cue since Mah Jong and pool are somewhat related. You have to be touch sensitive and a good strategist!:D

So, master Reyes, are you going to put North, South, East and West tiles as windows in the butt sleeve? ;)

I got an idea, why don't you go ahead and make two, one for me and one for you. By the time you are done with it I should easily have the money saved up :-)

Good to see you here Marcel. Initially I'm thinking of putting in the whole set. Sticks, Balls, Characters and Flowers in spiral inlay pattern.

Wow, that would be a big project then. There are so many tiles in the whole set. You would maybe have to make a 80 inch cue to have the whole set in. :D

No, it's going to be 58" and be an everyday player. If I make it, will you buy it? :D

You finance?
Since you've genuinely shown appreciation to what I do, I will. The satisfaction of knowing that somebody, who appreciates ones creation, would actually strive to own one is immeasurable.

You know what? This message sneaked past me. I didn't even see it until I posted the above reply to "Do you finance?". I see how it did though, we posted almost at the same time!

Yahoo Mah Jong is not quite the same.
Ed likes to read those tiles from the bottom with his middle finger. :D
I can see Ed's next project.
Snakes and Ladders scrimmed all around the cue.
Or Monopoly. :p
Nothing he does shocks me anymore.
He's prolly gonna go up in the mountains now and learn another art craft from that guy up in Baguio City who does art with his magnifying glass and sunlight. :D

WHAT!?!?!? Financing. Why am I always the last to know these things? How about a lease? I'll put down $100 and pay $2 a month.

Well, I guess it is going to cost quite a bomb if you were to make a Mahjong cue with all the tiles in one cue. I would have to live on bread and water for at least a year to afford it. :(
Maybe I would get a plain jane cue with a red dragon tile from you first to start off. ;)

Master Reyes, If you are in Singapore, I will invite you to lunch then, rather than you having me over for lunch. :)
Do PM me if you come to Singapore. Would love to have you over for a meal. :)
All right then, you are the next cuemaker I will get a cue from then. :)

For the love of God, I never expected you to say yes!! This really throws a wrinkle into my financial planning startegy. (I can't even type that with a straight face) Well if business stays steady as I am forseeing it to be, and I stop buying stupid stuff, I may be able to pull it off. I will send you a PM when my heart stops racing and I can think clearly.

hey ! now i can post!

Hi Master Reyes,

I was the one who innocently asked you in the matchroom sports forum for 9ball about your cues when i saw your post in the Pinoy posters directory thread. You pointed me to this thread.

Little did I know that I would be looking at these fantastic works of art.

To be honest, every day since then i have been visiting this thread to read up and view the beautiful cues.

And it is only today that my membership to this Forum has been approved and validated for posting and so here's my first post.

I'm just an average player having learned this from my father. But I love the sport and the fact that Filipinos excel at this in the world arena. After seeing your cues , it made me proud to know that not only in playing do we excel but in cue making as well.

Anyway, I plan to save up for a cuestick , unfortunately it will have to wait as I am saving up to buy a billiard table first. I would like my children to learn the sport and learn to play well. I have a girl who is 14 and a boy who is 8.

After reading all the posts it is apparent that this is not only a business for you but really a labor of love with all the attention you give to each cue to make it perfect (is there such an animal ?) and fit to the user/owner.

Your striving to continuously improve your craft, experimenting with new materials and processes, is intriguing to say the least. And your previous experience with x-ray makes you see within the cue which i believe puts you notches above the rest.

Reading about hardwoods you use, made me think about a solid hardwood table my father made in the early 1950's which he described as a cross section of a bump on the side of a gigantic tree in Bislig, Surigao when the logging business of the Sorianos was being started then (now PICOP). My father was a pioneer there. Unfortunately I dont know what tree it was but the table is about 4ft diameter (not perfect round but natural contoured) and the solid table top is about 4 inches thick. Being more or less 50 years old, I believe this would make a perfect forearm and butt.

My problem would now is to convince my Mother, brothers and sisters to give me that table to make into cue sticks. Might be an impossible dream. hehehe.

Anyway, I am honored to make your aquaintance , even on this forum. And I hope to meet you in person. Maybe even at this Saturdays Pinoy Posters EB at Detour.

Thanks and More Power!
