Bank or Cut?

Like the old saying in poker...cut em thin, you always win! well maybe not always but I would cut before banking in this situation. Gotta play the percentages.

The guy who taught me how to play has a bunch of "rules"....

One of them is "why bank (or combo) when you can cut?"

I would cut this shot.

Rules!

One of the sayings from that guy that taught me.... "Bank for show, Cut for dough!"

Guess I would be cutting this one in.

Plus the bank has safe potential and cut is almost certainly a sell out

I'd cut it for sure. I was trained that way. Why bank? I get a knock in the head if I do something stupid every time I train :(

Cut it.

I do think it is a good question and its not the wrong shot to bank it but I like to cut it.I like to see the ball going in the pocket with the game on the line rather then banking it towards a pocket.
If you do not see thin cuts well then bank it.If cutting the ball thin with a tiny bit of inside english isn't your cup of tea then bank her home!

bank it.

the cut is easier and very tempting; but put it this way - if you miss, the cue ball would stay on that side of the table. it then gives the opponent a lot of easier positions to pocket the 8.

the bank is not that easy, but if you miss it you can position the cue ball far on the other side of the table giving the opponent a less easier position to pocket the 8. if you're lucky it might turn out to be a safety shot.

Anybody who banks this shot thinks they are going to miss the cut. I don't think that is the right mind set to have playing pool. This cut is easy enough that a good player will rarely, if ever miss it because they don't have any shape to play.

Toi

even if it maybe is a bit offtopic.

But here on cutshots like shown, the *TOI*, which CJ Wiley explains is a great help. Give it a try- you ll see a huge difference and you ll get confident with it.

And the cut-shot is always the correct solution!

Ingo, hush!! Let's not let the cat out of the bag!

Cut this in all day. Banking the case ball is almost always a bad idea. Shooting with a miss in mind is the surest way to miss.

At the risk of starting ww3 I have to say that with a good aiming system this shot is not considered tough at all. And the bank is also not hard if you know how to aim it. But from the diagram the cut is the better shot.

I agree either shot can be made if you know how to aim it, however the scenario is suggesting that this is the shot for the win...I guess it comes down to risk /reward and to the the ability of the shooter. In this case I would cut this without giving it a second thought.

Actually where the 8 is sitting, it could be good 3 rail side pocket bank, and also could be safe shot if you miss.

C'mon guys, aiming system??? Anybody that has shot any amount of pool at all ought to be able to cut this shot in by just getting down, stroking smoothly & straight, keeping their head still, and just stroking the cueball. Sure, I'll agree with those that said a touch of high is the way to go, but other than that, this shot is not only NOT that tough, I find it to be fairly routine. But then, cutting balls is one of my strengths.

No rocket science here. Just a thin slice-n-dice and pick up the cheese.

Us AZB'ers tend to overthink the hell out of some of the simplest things.
