I love watching short rack bank pool and was curios as to who other people think are the top 5 right now. Also how would you have them seeded?

1) Skyler Woodward
2) Billy Thorpe
3) John Brumback
4) Danny Smith
5) Justin Hall

If he didn't dog it, I would like to find a spot for Larry Nevel. Also if you're only allowed one railers Jason Shaw.

I’m guessing some would order them differently, but that looks like a great list.

Slightly off topic, but the most fun I’ve had playing is bank ring games with amounts paid per rail of a bank made. You see some really crazy shots and you start getting very creative.

My list would be:
Alex
Brumback
Busty
Thorpe
Orcullo

Great list JJ and Chip Compton both bank great too

Billy Thorpe is the best bank pool player on the planet playing by the rail that is the new wave banks now that the players all gamble at.

Much different game than full rack or short rack banks

And there are countless others that play great bank pool especially when the derby comes around you ll see the best bankers hands down. Danny smith played some great multiple rail banks last year playing Shannon Murphy 30 rails ahead for 10k

I'd consider Busty and Shannon Daulton (when he's In top form) as well but if I had to pick 5 guys right now idk if I could it's very close but I'll actually rank who I feel are the best bankpool players as such:

1. Billy Thorpe
2. Sky Woodward
3. John Brumback
4. Justin Hall
5. Danny Smith/Busty/Daulton

Again the guys I left off could easily make the list but I don't think u could pick them over at least my top 4 so it's def a nice topic to debate and especially because I love banks it my favorite game until I fell in love with one pocket but I'll always give banks it's props and as far as gambling games it's top 2 if not number 1 for the simple fact there's NO LUCK n every ball is earned and called!!

How does that work? Is a two rail bank worth the same a two one rail banks?

You set a dollar amount per rail Say for example, $5 per rail.

You make a 1 rail bank, the other players each owe you $5 each for the one rail.

You make a 3 rail bank.....they each owe you $15 for the 3 rails.

Etc, Etc.

We used to just keep track with a piece of paper. Each rail was a tick mark. At the end, you just settle up.

When you play with 3-5 players, it can start adding up if you're having a bad day. Its very fun though. Especially when someone snaps off a 4 railer.

So yes, making 2 one rail banks in a row would be worth the same as a single 2 rail bank.

You see a decent amount of one railers, the mult-rail banks usually come from balls sitting on the short rail near a pocket. Or when guys are stuck pretty good, they will forgo a single rail for a multi rail. A few 3 or 4 railers and you can get back in it pretty quick.

If this list was "for all time" how would Freddie the Beard rank? He always touted his prowess as a banker but I was wondering if that was all bravado or if he was really that good.

Shannon Murphy is also one of the best bankers I've seen. Dennis is good, but he wouldn't want to gamble at Banks with these guys imo. Shannon Daulton is a fantastic banking machine when he's in stroke. No one is really looking to make a game with him. Truman Hogue was another great one in his day. Definitely the equal of any of these guys. Tony Fargo gets my nod as well. Man, could he bank those balls!

Banks was Freddie's best game, but he would be a full ball under any of these guys.

Just to add to your original question. If you asked me about the best Bankers of all time, I would still take Taylor, Bugs or Cannonball over any of them. Taylor was other worldly at Banks, shooting them in like hangers and never seeming to miss anything. Nowadays we get excited when we see a player bank four or five and out in Short Rack Banks. Well Taylor would often bank six, seven or eight and out in Full Rack Banks! Bugs was the master of making off angle Banks, and finding shots that looked like they weren't there. Cannonball was just a Banking savant.

Nobody is beating down Shannon Daultons door to play banks. He took off the last DCC ring game in pretty sporty fashion. I know that ring banks is different from 1-on-1 banks, but Shannon can play that also.
For all time banker, there is no question. Eddie Taylor is the best hands down.
The banks pool championship tourney died when Eddie ran 38 full rack banks!
I was lucky enough to be around Eddie at Guys & Dolls in Suitland Md in the late 60's.
Only one person played him even banks. That was Rags Fitzpatrick , a local D.C. guy who died very young. I watched Eddie play Charlie Justice ( a very good banks player )
one handed to two short rack banks. Charlie was 1 game ahead when I walked in.
Eddie ran 3 and out, then broke and ran 5 & out, broke and ran 5 & out, broke and ran
3 and played safe.
Banks is a great game.
Pushout forever
