Offensive Billiards débuted the Bank Shot Calculator (BSC) to a mass audience at the BCA Nationals and I must say the number of people who took interest was overwhelming. I wish to thank everyone who took the time to view the BSC. The feedback was taken to heart and I began work on the first upgrade the day I returned. For you droid users out there take heart, I am currently in negations with a programmer as I write this. We will have the droid model on the street as soon as possible. I will keep everyone posted. I’ll be turning the web page over to a real professional and you can already see the changes. We have links directly to the app. We have a photo gallery that I will be updating in a day or two and all the spam is gone. Now I have my sights set on the APA nationals in August and I hope to see some of you again. J. R. and Megan from Inside Pool were amazing. I was introduced to many of the main players in the industry. Here’s a shout out for Blair Thein and his long lived passion, “Pool Poker and Pain”. Thanks Blair, for all the intros. Thanks to NYC Grind and everyone else that took interest. It was truly a pleasure to meet every one and get back in the pool world again. It has been a long time.

Great so now we're gonna be waiting for every banger out there to stop and get his iphone out to calculate a bank shot haha. ;)

I'm sure ill dowload it when it comes out for the droid

Some guy tried to pitch this to me in the elevator at the Riviera. When I asked him about things like damp cloth, heated tables and cue elevation angles, he really didn't seem to have any answer except "it works". Like to know if anyone with one of these gizmos really thinks that it is effective. As far as "study the angles before the game", I do that, only I call it practice.

You crossed the line.

Stop giving out all the secrets!

I saw it on my friend's phone and I thought it was pretty cool. For really basic banks, it's a good tool to test yourself. You can setup a shot and think about it and calculate it in your head, then see if you're right. Of course it's only a guide as the previous poster discussed the points of cloth, elevation, etc. I can't wait for it to get ported to the android and also add some features for 2 - 5 rail banks. Then we'd have a one pocket bank calculator!

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't an aid such as this be illegal in a tournament format? I know you can't carry around an instruction book as a reference while shooting, i'd be the same thing.

Sounds like a good practice device though. Teaches you the angles before you shoot the shot, that might save some trial and error time.

I made a program for my calculator that did the same thing a few years back..but i felt kinda nerdy standing over the table with a big texas calculator in my hand, so i didnt use it:P

I've been working on the upgrades all week. They will be coming soon, as will the Droid app.

thanks,
Clyde

I remember the story of John Henry and the invention of the steam powered drill. He was so sure he could beat it, he died trying. I remember when the Japanese came out with the quartz watch. The naysayers all stuck with the Swiss, for a little while. I remember when manufactures introduced the computer into the process and the assembly line workers said, “that thing can’t replace a man” and unemployment went through the roof. I remember Lu Sardou and his tight rack. It was a slow process but Lu stuck with it. Over time people starting taking notice of the value of a tight rack and Lu was bought out. Now look at all the rack interest. So when someone says to me “the Bank Shot Calculator won’t work”, I just think about all the time players spend trying to find the natural angle and think, if it doesn’t work why are they trying to reproduce the same result? It counts the diamonds, calculates the parallel lines, reproduces the plus two systems, and calculates the natural angle, angle in angle out… Practice your whole life if you wish, we need patriots of the “Old School”. But just as the laminate shaft proved more accurate than a single piece and thus shortened the learning curve for players that got onboard, the Bank Shot Calculator will prove the training aid of choice for learning how to bank and will also shorten the learning curve. In mere seconds it provides the same results one might attain from months of study. It satisfies the smart phone requirement of the age, and IT WORKS!! So, head on back to the practice table if you don’t believe. Hit a thousand bank shots a thousand ways and see what you can learn. Or, embrace the change, shorten the learning curve and increase your chances of reaching the winners circle.

It is sold as a training aid, I believe.

Does it let you know what type of english to use? If not, that may be a great tool to incorporate into this thing.

Total BS

hmmm...I wonder if it has a button to calculate the angle of bank...off a dead rail cushion...or better yet...rock hard cushions:D

Any of the good systems by Jimmy Reid, Grady Mathews, Dr. Dave, Tom Rossman or any one else that has a published system has the same problems of adjustment. Its like everyone on here trashing pool gloves because your hands don't sweat. Come up with something better.

Haven't heard anything on it yet Dog. Just being a realist. Players won't let it be used in tournament play. I know that as well as anyone. Seems to me, players have become too dependent on governing bodies. The way I see it, do anything you want in training. When you're done training, step on up and bet something, no toys allowed. I've used it so much I see it walking down the street. The same is likely to happen to anyone else. I just want to help people learn.

No BlackBerry then....

No Blackberry yet. Iphone and Droid make up the vast majority of the smart phone market. We may do a stand alone (PDA) type device at some point but the ipod covers that consept very well already. The 8G ipod runs the app just fine plus all the music you might want to download, and you can get them now for @ $100.00 on line.

Thanks Jaw,
Cheers
