I was wondering opinions on if you had a chance to spend say 10k or so,would you get a very nice high end Barry or would you get a more simpler classic Gus?

I was thinking Gus as he has passed and there are no more to be made.I am curious to how many cues he made,i heard Balabushka only made a 100 or so cues.

HE DIDN'T MAKE MANY BUT IT WAS CONSIDERABLY MORE THAN 100, I'M THINKIN MORE LIKE 2000. THERE IS NO CUE(AS FAR AS AN INVESTMENT)LIKE A GUS.

So his cues would be a better investment then Balabushka?

IT DEPENDS ON WHO YOU ASK.....YOU CAN GET MORE GUS FOR 10k THAN YOU CAN FROM A BALABUSHKA. I WOULD SAY THEY HAVE INCREASED ABOUT EVENLY OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS.

Thanks for the info, your right about more bells and whistles, most Bushkas i saw were very plain, supposedly he didnt like putting too many inlays in his cues but Gus would really spruce it up.:D

That's an easy answer for me. IMHO, a higher end Barry vs a plainer Gus. Gus made a lot of plainish players cues, with his total producation around 1200. Barry is still shy of 500 cues and he has now been making them longer than his dad. He probably won't approach that number.

I would say Barry but it could be a little bit risky. Like CueAddict said There will never be as many Barrys as Gus cues. With the workmanship being the same, one would think that Barry's cues will bring a higher price down the road since they are more rare. Being that Gus is one of the original greats though its tough to say. Only time will tell.

On the bright side, its a no lose situation either way!

Interesting question WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , how can you even compare Barry Szamboti to Gus Szamboti:confused: it is totally night and day.

Gus, Barry, good question. I like my Gus and I have found a few of Barry's I like. I'll stay neutral and say.. Palmer.. haha j/k.. I think both cues are good choices.

you're being sarcastic right? if not then i'll tell you i think Barry's work has surpassed his fathers in design and execution making this question a very valid and interesting one. couple that with the fact that he will not make as many cues as his father did and it makes it even more intriguing. if it were for investment reasons i would take the fancier Barry because the G.S. you could buy today with that money will be worth around that same money years from now where as the fancy B.S. will only continue to rise. when there are no more Szamboti's being made the fancier B.S. will be worth considerably more that the plainer cue made by his father. for me, even if investment wasn't the motive, i would still take the fancier B.S.

If you are in for a great investment you could not go wrong with either.
But from a fancy cue, I have seen more bang for the buck with a Barry.
Step into the gallery and take a look at the Barry I took delivery this week from the team at CueAddicts.
And if you search for one, I wish you good luck.
Hope you find something that you will enjoy.
I did!

What about....

playability?
Which play better would be the question too...or do you all not play with your botis? What a sin to talk to people who dont play with these cues!
