My team mate has a Barry Szamboti cue which he bought from
Barry Bettencourt, owner of Blvd. Billiards back in the early 1980's.......It was designed and made by Barry himself somewhere between 1980-1985.....HAS 2 13 MM SHAFTS.......Don't have pictures as of yet but it has a different design......It has rectangle ebony shapes on butt and forearm....Reminds me if someone would tear off a 3 inch strip of electrical tape and stick it on the cue....Put 4 around the bottom butt and about 8 up where the points would be in a vertical position....
I know...You want to see it...Can't get it right now but just want an idea about how much this cue would be worth in good condition ???? He is thinking about selling because he is in his 70's and thinking of retiring....He has always been the only owner of this cue....He just wants and idea...
Thanks

I do not believe Barry was involved with Gus's cue making operation in the early to mid 80's. I played in Tom's River at the Ball Room and don't recall Gus or Tony Catucci ever mentioning Barry being a cue builder at the time. Perhaps Measureman can chime in,cuz he's also one of the old Ball Room Crew(Szamboti Heaven),or try and contact Barry. Barry can verify if it's a Gus. If it is the price will be substantial depending on design.

I do remember something about Barry working with Gus for awhile then quitting.
What i do remember quite well was after Gus passed Barry brought his very first cue to show Tony.I saw the cue and while it was nice i remember thinking that he had a ways to go to get to his fathers level.Anyway i think this was the first cue he made from start to finish.I think that was late 80's maybe 88 or 89.Little foggy on the time frame. Of course Barry can clear this up.

#######updade the cue were talking about here inst what I posted below, its a Barry box cue##########

It was a 8pt Gus, I played with it many times, it was a loaded 8pt. Gue and Barry B were good friends. I was good friends with Barry B, that cue was stolen once and recovered in Chicago a couple months later, Man Barry B was pissed when he lost it, they broke in to BLVD Billiards and got the 8pt (the 6pt was in the safe) and cherry picked the cue lockers Tony Bush and one other guy didnt get their cues back the rest were recovered. I played there 3-5 nights a week from 85-88(I moved to Sac) then I moved to Ripon and played at BLVD Billiards(I never liked it much). So I was there and remember well.

He moved up the street to BLVD Billiards after that went down, Bob Wong Barry B's partner then got a loaded 6PT from Gus. Both Barry and Bob have since passed away. I believe Lucky has the Cues. Mike Mitchell who plays in Motown remembers both cues well. Ask Mike he knows.

That was my first exposure to Gus's work, I couldnt afford such a nice cue-yet Barry let me use his loaded up 8pt and I was a C player, thats why I let anyone who can play use some of my Gus's(I have a couple I havent used....yet). Share the experience.

PS: I'm going to email Barry Szam and call Mike, I would give my left ### for Barrys and Bob's cues. I am very to own one Szam from back in the Ferroni days, It has alot of senemental value to me. Man I wish we had pics from back then, it just sucks I dont ever remember seeing a camera once in any pool room on the west coast back then.

If it is a Gus or Barry eight point cue it is very valuable. From your description it sounds like it might be a box cue. If you post pictures we would be able to give you a better idea of the value of the cue.

I forwarded your number to my friend who owns the cue......Right now he is having a hard time getting a hold of Barry.....
