mnorwood said:Is borrowing a book or and article from a friend considered stealing? Is copying pages out of a periodical at a university library so you can write a research paper considered stealing? Does SI own all of the information about Kid D's life? Does SI really mind all of the extra exposure they are getting? Does it bother you that the low prices of the consumer items you buy every day are made possible by Asian slaves who makes pennies an hour? Do you own an SUV that contributes to our dependence on foreign oil that indirectly funds terrorist groups?
Wake up dude!!!! There is alot greater evil in the world you participate in on a daily basis!!!
Thank you for responding, mnorwood....I'm assuming you're talking to me, the "moralizer" in this thread? Your response gives me another chance to "moralize." I'll hit your points one at a time and then you can respond again if you so choose...OK?
First off, remember that you are arguing on the side of theft while I'm arguing for more honesty in the pool world.
Here we go:
No, "borrowing" is not stealing, unless you don't give it back. That has nothing to do with this issue, though.
Copying a page for research is probably not stealing depending on the library rules, I suppose. And this pertains to this issue how?
SI does not own all the info about Danny, but they spent thousands of dollars creating the article and they do own the article and can therefore charge any price and establish whatever conditions for the article they want. Those who get the article through them agree to abide by those conditions. The same is true for those who post here: We each agreee to abide by the rules of AZBilliards, you included. These rules, to which each of us agreed, forbid what has happened here. So, I follow these rules and expect the same from others---what is wrong with that?
I can't speak for SI about the exposure they are getting. But, I'd say they missed out on a lot of exposure to rightful funds because of the stolen article placed here. They aren't the only victims, btw. Their advertisers lose out, too.
Asian slaves? You'll have to clarify that one before I can respond. I don't really have a clue as to what that has to do with this case, though.
I do own a SUV and a couple of cars, too. Are you saying that any gasoline purchase contributes to terrorists? If so, why, how, and again, what does my owning an SUV have to do with this theft?
By your last statement, I'm assuming that you think I should not take up this issue because you think there are more important evils in the world that this one? Is so, that, too, has nothing to do with this thread. The same if you're saying that I help contribute to those evils by my TRADING (not stealing) money for goods. If you know I'm being forced to help in these evils, then that force against me is wrong, too....just as the force used against SI is wrong....just as the initation of force against any innocent person is wrong. That is my point here.
Let me be very clear, I have taken up this issue for a very specific reason. I pick my "fights" very carefully. Notice the number of hits this thread has received---and now yours.
Thanks again,
Jeff Livingston
