What happened to him? Why isn't he playing in tournaments any more?

Excellent question- I dont think the Heart Attack could be the factor anymore as he has played in tournaments as early as a year ago IIRC. Someone on here just reviewed a lesson from Danny which i believe was 3 hours and Danny was quite animated so he seems to have the energy.

Id like to know also however Danny has the right to keep his reasons to himself.

Someone said the 'movie thing' I dont know what he meant but perhaps the movie is a better sell If Danny doesnt go into it being ranked #12 or something. He cant guarantee wins so maybe just stay on the sidelines if/til the Movie comes out?.

he had a heart attack? I never heard about that. I know he is obese, but he is still in his twenties if I recall correctly

This is a good one....

Well Danny has been sighted in the Northeast. I have been in Vermont and I think Danny was either in unstate New York or Vermont at a book signing.

In typical pool player fashion he was signing books, pool balls and the like. The story he was telling was he was world champion for 3 years in a row. I said, "Really, which years were those?"

Some things never change......

Especially in this game.

It was due to obstructive sleep apnea.... He quit breathing while sleeping and it caused him to have a heart attack. Danny was lucky that his GF checked on him when she did, another 2-3 minutes and he would have been dead.

Minnesota Fats never embelished the truth, did he??? Fats did a world of good for pool in his era and I for one hope Danny has the same chance for our era..... Pool players can chuckle all they want about what Danny says or whats written about him but if his schtick gets Jack and Jill Public interested in the game and pulls them into our world, who cares? This game needs alot of things but it mainly needs more people in the seats. Danny is the perfect ambassador to do just that. I personally have never been around another human being that has as much charisma and graciousness as Danny. People flock to him like he's a freakin rock star....

He mainly gives lessons now.

Its just not worth it for him right now to endure the hardships, stress, and expenses it takes to travel around. Especially when everyone knows him and he can't get the $$ games he used to.

My friend runs his poolsite, pooljax.com, and talks to him occasionally. Last I heard he was feeling pretty good, doing allright giving lessons, and trying to just take care of his girlfriend and his health.

Danny was just in my room in Pa for 3 hours today, giving a lesson to one of my customers again. great guy and funny to.

From what I understand he, like the un-named cue assembler from NC, can also transport to an alternate universe. I've been there and I'm here to tell you that there are lots of cool rides :speechless:

Danny Vs Minnesota fats

Danny is quite the showman, but the difference between Danny and Minnesota Fats is that Danny can actually play. Fats, on his best day never could have carried Danny's jock strap.

He called me yesterday, he is doing well. He is doing a lot of lessons.(more consistent, less stressful way to make a living) He was on his way to Philly for three lessons yesterday. I believe the last tournament he played in was Valley Forge in the spring.

You're right. But, the difference is Danny can put you into sleep in between shots, Fats doesn't want you to go to sleep. I know of an instance of a race to seven lasting almost two hours. Unreal.

Two hours would have been quick. I played him a race to seven in a tournament that was 7-5. Took almost 3 hrs.

Agreed....

Ken4Fun... I got to thinking about your post about Danny saying he was world chamion 3 times. Technically he was ranked as the #1 player 3 different times. First, he was ranked as #1 on the ill-fated Billiard Channel Tour. He was #1 on the UPA tour for a while and he was ranked #1 on either or both the Billiards Digest and/or AZBilliards rankings. SO technically he has been ranked as the #1 player 3 different times.

I have yet to meet a person who hasn't embellished or beefed-up their portfolio or resume.

I can't do the accent marks, but the above-referenced word "resume" is rez-zu-may.

People do it in my industry all the time. :grin-square:

I know this guy who's a roofer. He nails down shingles. If you were to ask him what he does for a living, he's a Cedar Shake Mechanic!
