BCA Board Member Elections - Fraud?

I just noticed that the BCA has elections coming up to fill 4 seat. There are four candidates that were ALLOWED to run for those four seats. So essentially the membership of the BCA does not need to vote.

Now Mike Janis was denied a chance to run for the board by the nominating committee.

My question is WHY? Mike is a member of the BCA. Why is any voting member of the BCA not allowed to run for it's board? What possible reason could there be for disqualifying a voting member in good standing from running for the board of directors.

And also, I read that Mark Griffin was made to give up his seat when he bought the BCA Leagues. So are all members who own leagues or run tournaments forbidden from being board members?

How is it possible that only four candidates are put up for the 4 seats?

Any insider info on this?

Nothing new under the sun....

This is happening all over the world and not just in billiard associations but all sports.

I'm sure I shouldn't respond to this since I'm totally pulling this out of my butt with no knowledge of the subject but . . .

I think I can understand not allowing people with vested personal finacial interest to sit on the board. As for the limited number of candidates allowed , that sure does sound less than fair to everyone involved . . . unless your one of the 4 I guess. ;)

BCA elections

To correct the misunderstanding posted earlier.

I was a board member after acquiring the BCA Pool Leagues. In fact I was re-elected a couple of years ago. My term just expired. I had submitted my name for re-election - however the nominating committee was told to remove my name from the ballot. Do I feel they acted improperly? Yes - but I guess you will have to ask them (the board) about that.

I was originally on the board as the Room Owners representative. I have always favored the players position. However, it became apparent that I was in the minority. That was unfortunate. It is not uncommon for board members to disagree on issues. But there really is a lack of player representation on the board. I felt I was a 'good balance' while there.

In reference to another post, I believe all of the board members are involved in the industry and therefore have a 'personal financial interest', however, there is a time to put on the BCA hat and take off the 'personal business' hat.

I believe most were able to do that. Some board members are only there for protecting their turf - others are there for the betterment of the industry.

Hope that helps.

Sadly, imo, there always seem to be more of the former than the latter. Thank you Mark, for doing MORE than your share, towards the 'betterment of the industry'!

What does the BCA board do and what power does it actually hold? Also, do they get paid?

You have NO idea how annoying it is for me too say the same thing I have am going to say AGAIN..................about the BCA. here I go againnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
The BCA's 'pat' expression, "we represent the industry" not the player side. This is why they got rid of John Lewis, and the leagues, and the high dollar scolarship money for the BCA Jr. Nat. winners, their logic has always been take care of personal agendas of board members first, its why allot of them are there (Bob Radford), to better their own projects. The foundation of the BCA was for the sport, yet the mfg. have taken the reigns and used the mfg/non profit agenda motto to not help the hand that feeds them. Why???????................. it makes no sense too me. The BCA has more ability/$$$$ to make change, and good for the sport than any organiztion on the planet, yet they seem/act as tho they are happy with only 35+ million people (according to SIGMA or SBMA) every year, samo/samo and not willing to increase the numbers, the only stimulus the sport has ever gotten to improve its numbers is from Color of Money and the Hustler. The movie industry (like ESPN) is self serving, BCA is too. Because the BCA board memebers are into it for themselves (not all of em), the number of players and the sport will keep the "status quo" how stupid can U be??? Stupid is, stupid does.

Couldn't they have come up with an easier acronym?

Like maybe the Billiard Companies of America (BCA)??? :-)

The Billiard Industry Group (BIG)

Billiard Enterprise Group (BEG)

Billiard Organizations Rooms Retaillers Owners and Wholesalers (BORROW)

or something other than BRRMA????

Now what it is and where is the information online?

I don't know. I know almost nothing about that organization.

I have seen a few PR's and such but I don't know what it is about.

From reading the logo it looks like a players organization. BRRMA is not that kind or organization.

BRRMA is set up to be something like what the BCA was originally established to do. Basically it will be a medium for billiard room owners and billiard retailers to tap into the manufacturers deeper discount programs while helping to support pool as a sport through tournaments.

BRRMA is not against the current BCA structure or set up to be in conflict with it. The BCA is a manufacturers group and really has nothingto do with the playing end of pool which BRRMA is designed for.

They that have the power make the rules.
It is their orgination so they can run it any way they see fit.

They dont tell me how to run my business so I dont tell them how to run the BCA. Personaly, IMHO ... I think the BCA os OK.

Out of curiosity, do you think that removing your name from the ballot has anything to do with the fact that you're currently suing the BCA? Honestly, I'm not sure why you'd want to be a board member of an organization that you so clearly are at odds with.

Here we go again

The latest important BCA release to the pool world:

Tom Gregory, of Toltec Lighting, and Greg Lecorgne, of Dave & Buster?s, to fill two vacant Board seats for the 2008-2009 Board year. Gregory will fill the open Manufacturer/Distributor seat and Lecorgne will fill the open Room Operator seat.

Ya DEE Ya DEE, the WHO HOOOOOO reception/dialogue they are given because they have just become........ the new representatives of our industry.
What a joke, Dave and Busters, a Chucky Cheeses Adult Game room Dude representing the room seat. Its a bar, its a game room it happens to have pool tables yet what in the world does a Dave & Busters room operator know about the game??????? ZerOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, he's a food and beverage guy, sounds like another lamb amongst the heard of board members wanting another person to not Rock the Ship. Gotta go, I'm sick again.........another profound BCA (Beware Corporate Agenda) decision.
