For those who are interested in going to the BCA tournament in May.

I noticed that the Riv has increased their room rates to over $100 per night.

I just booked with Circus Circus across the street, they just lowered their rates to $25 a night (week night) and $60 weekend.

I hate the walk over there but the rooms are nicer and its nice to get away from the crowd once in a while.

Should be a fun week!

DONT BOOK NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rates are in free fall, by may the Wynn will be $85/night. the Riv is going to grab $$$ from erily bookings now, there will be $20 rooms EVERYWHERE near the Riv by may, occupancy rates are up to the highest levels EVER in Vegas!!!! And dont let anyone play you and scare you into booking now because you wont get a room. thats a stone cold scam!!!!

I have lived here almost 20 years and been comming here since 86, i aint ever seen it this slow, summer is the slowest time of year anyways. This economic collapse is the best thing ever for people comming to the BCA!!! it will be dirt cheap, I have seen in the local paper articles about $50 round trip tickets from Detroit, chicago etc. If you plan it right the air and room for a week will be less than $400 from the east coast.

I follow this everyday in the paper talking to friends who work in the casio's etc. Vegas is having it alot worse than most citys and it is stone cold stealing to come here in May. The Riv might tell you otherwise but hold out or stay somewhere else, trade show season is over by May so the only place with jacked up rates is the Riv. They will probably have to lower them.

Trust me on this one, i should start a thread about it.

here is the link to the local news paper, read it everyday for 3 weeks and a few weeks prior you will see part of what i'm talking about, the reality is the numbers are alot worse than the paper is claiming. Just ask anyone who works in one of the joints, I have a friend who works Front Valet at the MGM, he is getting 2 days work a week, the Encoure just cut everyone from 40 to 32 hours/week and 15% of saliery people. you cant get a job in this town period!!! hell i'm in a jam now....

I got a "player club" rate of $45 a night at the riv. Good deal for only spending an hour or two on a poker table.

I have a friend that works at the Wynn too - and rooms there will not be $85 a night.

Riviera Lowers room rates!!

Riviera turns back the clock! Room rates for the BCAPL Championships are now $85

Good news, players!

The Riviera has reduced all room rates (including prior reservations) for the 33rd Annual BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships in May to $85 per night. As usual, this includes all nights of the tournament and up to four people per room.

The Riviera has spent millions renotating the casino and the guest towers since last year. Their new "Signature Rooms" (example below) have flat screen TVs, new bathrooms, and pillow top Euro beds. ... See you in May!

Can't wait. Just too bad about the splash bar. :frown:

I am pretty sure Riveria will set up more temporary bars - like booth - during BCAPL Championship. They make way too much money from pool players' boozing not to accommodate:thumbup:

I went ahead and booked at Circus Circus (7-17 May) for approx $403. This was in mid January. Unfortunately Riviera (while convenient) is still overpriced at the $85 per night.

Hotel rates

When a large event is happening, the host hotel has a lot of expenses. They don't charge all of the pool leagues for every thing they do. Most hotels are union and the price of just hanging the lights is a LOT. Plus the pipe and drape -plus all the AV stuff - plus all of the risers and chairs etc.

All of these costs are 'eaten' by the hotel - in the hopes of having a good occupancy rate and a decent hotel room rate. Circus Circus can charge less than the Rivierea because they don't have ANY of the related costs.

The Riviera rolled the prices back to 2007 rates - that is a full two years!

I have always tried to support those that support me. The convenience of being in the host hotel is worth a lot.

I just found out tonight my V.N.E.A. League Team won an all expense paid trip to the Vegas Tournament in May. I know what all expenses paid means, double occupancy, coach seats, etc.

I'm gonna rent a nice car & get my own room, both will be bargains.

Fatboy, see you again in May.

Thats a valid point, it is convenient. That was a good move for them to roll back the rates. I hope they get the numbers they are looking for, I believe if its properly managed they will. its IMO the best pool event in Vegas period!!!

I suppose I can see this. I do agree the convenience factor is what I would normally consider and have done so in the past. Unfortunately in today's economy it's almost a buyer's market.

In the last three years I've attended I've been less and less satisfied with the Riviera's accomodations. Unfortunately they have increased their prices as well. As far as the room upgrades I did read somewhere in the financial websites that they are no longer upgrading their rooms to save money because the economy is so bad. Since I actually spend so little time in my room then Circus Circus is pretty convenient and at half the price. Also I've actually had more success on the Blackjack tables at Circus Circus versus the Riviera.

So while I appreciate what you say and I enjoy the venue that you put on each year, I really could care less about the Riviera. It also means I have more greenbacks to gamble with to support the local economy.

I agree Mark - but if the employees at the Riviera are still the same, then I will have to follow my yearly motto to try to spend as little there as possible. I realize that at times I am not a pleasant person but the Riviera employees can give me the 5 and the break in attitude.

I'll be staying at the Wynn/Encore and no, the rates will never be $85 a night there. If for some obscure reason I didn't stay there, I am going to push my way into Fatboy's house and use the Rolls to go back and forth to the strip.

Rolling back the prices should be more liked $65 a night and skip the energy surcharge too! It is a captive audience and yet has been documented here in this thread the service has degraded.

If those prices at Circus Circus are correct then that is the way to go. I've done the 15 minute stroll many times and it's a great way to get some exercise, fresh air and sunshine.

I actually got a pretty good deal a couple weeks back staying at Circus Circus from the 8th to the 13th. 2 people, non-stop flights from Milwaukee and back, Tower room at Circus Circus AND 2 tickets to see KA (Cirque de Soliet show) for a total of $650. Plus a few days later it was a little cheaper so I called expedia.com and they gave me a $50 coupon to use for whatever on their site. The same package is booking now for over $900 without the ticket to KA.

I booked my room at the Riv back in December when they were having a special rate of $25/$55 a night!! I got every night for scotch and singles for less than $60/night. The rate wasn't for the nights of the team event, but since I'm not playing teams, I didn't care. :)
