Not since the days of the young Balukas and the young Loree Jon jones has a young lady made the kind of statement that Jasmin Ouschan made Thursday at the BCA open.
Her day began against Corr. The defining moment came at 4-4. The one sat below the nine which sat below the six along the same long rail. Ouschan had narrowly failed to snooker Karen from the one, but Karen, by her own account in our chat after the match, erred in not kicking at the one. By thinning it, Karen opened up a dead 6-9 combo oon the nine, and the result was a cheap win for Ouschan in one of those tied-up racks that it seems Karen never loses. After the gift win for the 5-4 lead, Ouschan was brillaint and never gave the lead away.
Against Kelly Fisher, the key moment came with Jasmin 5-3 ahead. A poor miss on a two ball, couple with a lucky roll, left Kelly with an extremely difficult jump, but in what may have been the best shot of the tournmanet, Fisher jumped and cut the two thin into the bottom corner. Sadly, though, the cue ball caromed into a very unfortunate scratch. With a 6-3 lead, Jasmin coasted the rest of the way.
The match with Treadway was no match at all, and to be honest, Treadway looked quite nervous. Still, Pam made a statement this week that she's a young player to be watched, and her play wa shighly commendable.
The demolition of Hofstatter and Shin Mei Liu was, quite simply, breathtaking. With scintillating play, Ouschan never broke a sweat in those two matches, and enters the TV round in her finest form.
The 20 year old phenom has already beaten #4 Ga Yound Kim, #3 Kelly Fisher, #2 Karen Corr, and two time world champion Shin Mei Liu. Of course, the title goes through #1 allison Fisher, but if Jasmin pulls this thing off, she will have offered one of the truly memorable performances in the history of women's pro pool.
I can't wait for the semifinal tonight with Thornfeldt (who had a chance to beat Allison, but failed to get out with a chance to go up 8-7) matching up against Jasmin.
This is really exciting!
Finally, fellow poster Jimmy M was my guest for the session last night, and we had a grand old time! He''s a great guy.
