BCA saves the US Open?

JAM...Rob was recruited from another industry, to head the BCA, a few years ago. In his tenure there he has shown to be 1) a man of his word, and 2) willing to bend over backwards to try to get things done. IMO, he is a real asset to the pool industry!

Does Rob Johnson have any involvement with the pool industry as a whole?

Thanks BCA for stepping up with the Money issue.

What are you going to do about the Seeding?

Does this mean Barry will not pay past champions entry fees for the members of the ABP?

IMO there are still more questions than answers. Sept 20th maybe an very interesting day.

Its a big step! But Barry is still gonna be about 30k short!! The effort is in the right place and i hope it works out!

This isn't about money , it is about control , and this scenario will play itself out with other promoters and events .The ABP members want a guarantee that their members have a leg up through seeding , i'd never enter a tournament as a long shot player in a seeded event. What they really want is tournaments with limited fields , and ABP members only , or those players having to be certified by them.

In events they don't fund , but benefit from at somebody else's expense , legwork and effort. I actually think they are in the right in respect to the US Open , but seeding won't work with the second tier players who fund their own entry .

As a fellow long shot, I see it differently. I think my best chance to score an upset is in the first round, while the champ is still groggy after his flight from Manila. If I'm playing Shane, that means I take over his seeded spot and could have relatively clear sailing for a couple more rounds on the winners' side until I have to play Ralf.

, Guess there are always different perspectives , what if the Manila player doesn't play until he's had a nap because all the long shots were paired up until the eliminated one another and the gravy was left for the top players , closer to the money ?

I think seeded tourneys make the most sense especially for the fans (non players and sponsors) but the question is how do you come up with the seeding list, who gets seeded. It works for all of the more mainstream sports, tennis, march madness, match play golf and even bowling seeds their finals. Also seeding guarentees you do nto run into a clump of champions you only have to get by one per backet.

I think regional tourneys with big calcuttas should be seeded based on calcutta cost of the 4 highest players. This would make it more like the best players are there at the finish and will get the bid of the higher players up even higher.

I've heard that the players still have to agree to this arrangement. I hope they do so soon.

Bob,

Even if the players do agree, ( I know... a huge assumption) there is still the question about their other demands with Seeding.

And, Barry's paying the entry fee for past champions. According to my calculations there are 14 past champions on that ABP list. That's a $7,000 chunck of change. Those 14 players will now have to PAY for their actions. And still might not get the seeding they want.

Personally seeding only means that the pros, if they win, will meet on Wed rather than Monday or Tuesday.

If its a points a event than the ruling body will have to make a decision on the seeding issue.

If its not a points event then Barry is free to dictate terms.

Barry seeds, and he usually takes the advice of the TD, with one exception in 2004. You were there, Tom. :frown:

Barry does listen and consult with those who have expertise in these matters. He used to provide the semi-finalists of the year before a seed. He also used to give Dave Bollman, house pro of Q-Masters, a seed. If there is an organizational entity in place for the men, they probably will be consulted, but what about the ladies? How do they fit into the seeding scheme?

Ladies should get the top seed! I know I'm going to be LOW ranked in the seeding (probally last) and I would rather play a woman than JA or SVB. Simply because I know I'm going to lose...But I might as well enjoy the view!

Actually the female players tend to be friendlier!

I'm not sure if that's a good grounds for seeding, but I admire your style! ;)

If there is a recognized ranking, I think it is both fair and useful to have seeding. One wrinkle that I like is that no seeded player gets a bye in the first round. Maybe the WPBA used this? (I know I've seen it in use somewhere.)

I know I would be losing but getting to play against a pro would make it easier to swallow the lose of my entry fee

Bob, I think the players are ok with it from what I know. I think its Barry that needs to ok it and go with the stipulations. I am just talking about the money aspect here not seeding.

What a great tournament Gen. I remember those coke cans at the TV table.

Seeding by the promoter is always going to displease a lot of players except the ones that are seeded.

Barry's seeding practices have always been, well, Barry's decision.
