Hey guys I have been playing billiards for 3 years now and have a strong love for the game. I have been playing in the APA for the last 2 years and I am a skill level 4 but come to learn that i dont like the sandbaging that goes on and the confration that come with playing in the bar. So i am thinking about joining the BCAPL any input would be great.

Thanks Shooters

If you have the time and desire, play in every league possible.

I only have APA and TAP in my area, so I can't comment on the BCA.

Good luck

BCA is the best by a long shot . This was discussed back in April I think .
I have played both and there is no comparison IMHO

swilliams, BCAPL has been a lot of fun in my experience. I will warn you that it is sort of geared toward the better players. Locally, there may be a handicap for league play, but at any major BCAPL event it is always unhandicapped even races.

I will say that playing BCAPL has improved my game immensely, competing against better talent week in & week out. Here's hoping it will do the same for you.

BCAPL vs APA

One of the main reasons why you should play BCAPL is that we (the staff of BCAPL) actually are all pool players.

We read the AZ Forums and we will make comments.

We are invovled in the whole industry - from the players on up.

We add many thousands of dollars to state, local, regional, and national events.

We think we have the best program out there - I am sure others feel the same about their product also - but we offer more options to more players.

And how often do you get a response from the CEO in under an hour?!?!?!?

Seriously, if you have any comments or suggestions, please contact our office 702-719-7665. Thanks

Thank you for all you do , I really enjoyed Vegas

I think you already made your decision before you posted, and simply wanted validation. Every successful league has its merits and drawbacks, usually the merits outweigh the drawbacks otherwise they wouldn't survive.

I think one of the biggest misconception, and the root of many issues and gripes stems from sticking with one league too long (from cradle to grave). For your needs, you may have outgrown the APA bar leagues.

I prefer BCA. As stated in one of the other posts, IMHO it is stiffer competition. IMHO one of the best ways to improve your game is to play with players with good skills. You can learn a lot from better players, and it will encourage you to elevate you game.

I don't want this thread to turn into another APA bashing thread so I am going to just emphasize on the greatness on BCAPL :)

Why don't you rely on the ol' faithful that "the action speaks louder than words"? In BCAPL, as Mark Griffin, CEO, BCAPL pointed out earlier, the company is ran by pool players who all had been and are still playing pool competitively with passion so all the policy sat and modified are to accommodate for dedicated pool players. Because, we understand the conditions! BCAPL are the only league that keep an open door policy for all the players to submit any suggestion and we listen to them all. No one is turned away or ignored. For example, recently we changed criteria and added a division to make the National Championship fair to everyone - which took many hours of meetings and debates. We announced the policy change early on (10 months prior to next National Championship to be exact) so that words get out and people don't show up surprised! I know some leagues spring up the change when you get to the nationals and you have no choice because you're already there... :(

Although, we put all of our heads together and thought we combed through every detail, our members responded with valid complaints. We took it back to the drawing board and agreed some changes to be made and WE CHANGED IT! So, how many companies/ leagues listen and value their members as much as BCAPL?

How many companies/ leagues can you call the CEO direct and speak to him any time with any issues, suggestions and complaints? Mark G. even listed his personal cell phone number many times and it takes having balls size of the sun and pure pride in his league - product to invite anyone to call him for issues!

I think you should give the BCAPL a try, you may just love it! I'm not saying to quiet the APA. You can play both if you have the time. I'm pretty sure most areas when both leagues are offered, LOs have the common courtesy not to step on each other's boundaries. i.e. all BCAPL on Tuesday nights and APA on Thursday nights.

If you need help finding a BCAPL LO near you, feel free to call the office (702) 719-7665 or check out our web. www.playbca.com

You can also join the CSI (CueSports International - the parent company of BCAPL, USAPL and many more) Fan Page listed under my signature for updated information, upcoming BCAPL tournaments near you (regionals and state) or just to communicate.

Good luck and hope to see you sign up :)

I have played in BCAPL sanctioned leagues on and off for the last 6 years or so. I was recently asked to join a new APA league that they were trying to get going in the area...and kindly begged off. When asked why, my explanation was simple enough...I suffer no frustrations during league play in BCAPL. It is fun, it is fast moving, there is no handicapping in our league, so you need to get better in order to stay competitive, and I have made some great friends there...Kimberly Kirk being one of them. She can push me and my game like no other. I am always telling her that when I grow up, I want to play just like her...and I have maybe 15yrs on her in age...LoL!

I simply could not imagine myself playing within any other league system...it has definitely helped me grow as a player!!

I can settle this...

If you want the truth, if you want to know what league is best, then you should look at each leagues premiere event, Nationals.
Each league says they are the best but I promise you this, one’s leagues national event is top notch while the other is, hmmmm how do you say……CRAP.

BCA: Diamond tables, clean tables, clean balls, clean felt, 860 felt, fast felt, nice racks, great lighting, event times that run really close to “on time”, polite staff, lots of vendors… I could go on and on here.

APA: Valley tables, bad felt jobs on tables, lots of bubbles in felt, dirty tables, dirty balls, bad lights, bad racks, slow felt, pissed off staff, bad racks, couple vendors, tournament times that almost always late, did I say pissed off staff…. I think you get the point.

My point is if you say you’re the best then you need to bring the best to your biggest event. BCA does and APA doesn’t. BCA is for the players and APA is for the owners to make $$.

Perhaps an easier question: Boxers or Briefs?:p

Boxers :)

As someone else posted, try both leagues for a session and then make a decision. With BCAPL, you don't have to worry about sandbagging as much and the competition is generally better overall, IMHO.

The APA has the match play element. BCAPL you play everyone on the other team 1 game vs. playing a full match against one opponent. You can play in Vegas every year with the BCAPL and not worry about trying to quality. In other words, you can schedule your vacation around Vegas instead of just hoping to make it for the APA.

I've played in both leagues. The BCAPL seems to offer more to the serious player vs. the APA.

BCA vs APA

I've played in both leagues for years, in the Los Angeles area. Here is my take on the differences:

1) In our area, both are played in bars and/or pool halls, about equally.
2) The BCA has stronger players. Most in our league would be rated 5 or higher in APA
3) The BCA has no handicap and it is a race to 1 with each opponent, which can help improve your game and/or prepare you for bar tournaments
4) The APA, as you know, is a longer race, which also has advantages
5) It is much easier to compete nationally in Vegas with the BCA, as you only have to pay to play, both individually and as a team
6) The APA is setup so a team should have weaker players, which I like because it allows some of my family to play and still have a chance to win

There are aspects to each I enjoy

Thanks Guys for all the input and advice and I hope to shoot some of you guys in the near future in the BCAPL.
