BCAPL membership fee will be $15 for the new league year ... which starts June 1

Coco,

Im not going to personally attack you because I dont know you, but it seems you have nothing better to do, and thats very sad to me.
Maybe you should think about joining. You might just love the Vegas tourney.

I may be the only person on these boards who actually has met Cocobolo Cowboy. We sat and talked about pool for a good deal of time one evening. Interestingly enough, he never did really introduce himself, give his real name at any time, or give any personal information about himself; all he did was confirm that he is "Cocobolo Cowboy" and then sat and complained about how bad the pool scene is here in Arizona. He bad-mouthed nearly every tournament director, pool room owner, league, tour, and pool promoter in the state, and I'm sure he didn't know a thing about any of them. I know nearly all of the people he was attacking, and I can tell you that they are all just trying to do the best that they can for pool. They've done nothing illegal, unethical, or even shady, but Cowboy somehow felt they deserved his negative judgment.

Now I see him on here questioning the motives and ethics of one of pool's greatest supporters nationwide and it actually makes me angry. What any league charges for a sanction fee, or anything else, is absolutely none of his business because he DOES NOT play leagues. He disdains league play, as he has attested to here and on other forums. So why should he even care what the leagues do; unless he's just one of those who gets his jollies by sowing discord wherever he goes. But in this game, and at this point in time, discord is something that none of us needs.

I have met him too. Although I didn't know it until a few days later. I actually said Hi to him at the Desert Dustoff a while back and he said Hi back. I had no idea what he looked like so prior to the tourney so I asked him to introduce himself to me if he saw me there. A few days later he told me who he was and I asked him why he never said who he was. No answer.

Around this time I used to receive 10 pm's a day from him (not joking) about some of the silliest stuff asking some of the weirdest questions. It was around this time when I learned that he was very negative about everything and liked to complain about everything but do NOTHING about it himself.

I have had friends of mine who make cues and cases tell me that he would call them up a couple times a day and try to make his voice sound different and use different names like he was being sneaky then ask all kinds of "great" questions. When they called him on it he finally quit calling.

$5 is really a drop in the bucket compared to the total cost of what you spend in the BCAPL, even if you just play locally and do not attend the Vegas extravaganza. If you do go to Vegas, a $5 increase in your expenses doesn't even equate to a blink of the eye; it's negligible.

That said, I do think it's fair for the players to get something in return for the increased fee, and from the sound of the email, we will! :) It would be cool to see a California state BCAPL event or little bump in the prize money for the team events in Vegas.

According to the email, the BCAPL has 60,441 members. At $5 extra a piece, that's $300k extra coming in.

And this is not even accounting for the mounds of cash they will be saving next year by reducing cue ball replacement costs. :p

I think it's ridiculous to even be arguing that $5 increase in a recession is somehow going to hurt anyone.

The BCAPL is trying to grow the sport with a meager $5 per player yearly fee increase.

I know its only $5, but this league I run has never had a sanctioned in the past it was always voted down big time. So I told the players this past season was the only way I was going to run this league from now if it was sanctioned. Now the players in my league will see it as a 50% increase in sanctioning fees.

It's only $5. if fees were $100 for a year I can see complaining about a %50 increase but it's only $5.

At least the BCAPL has said what the increase is for... "more events". So that would say they are planning on giving it back to the players. UNLIKE the APA's recent increase you can be assured that won't go back to the players it will go in someones pocket. I hope the BCAPL has much success in the future... we unfortunatly do not have one of their leagues here but I would jump at the chance to play in one if anyone ever started it.

You should start one! It's very easy to get sanctioned and the rules you need are posted here. You only need 40 players I think to get it started. Once you go to Vegas in May for Nationals, you'll never want to play in another league. You can even double sanction your current league with BCA if you want.

This was a bar league before I took it over and the players *****ed bout the $10 fees last year. So Im going to loose some teams for sure. I have no problem with the $5, but my league has some rednecks players and they way they look at its 6-pack of PBR to them.:D

We are currently running a small ACS league atm stuckart. I only do it because my wife & others here like to play leagues and we will not line the pocket of an APA LO. I have been to the BCAPL 9BALL tourney back in 99 held in Atlantic City when I lived in NH & played a BCAPL there. Nice event. I am more a player then an LO. I rather just show up to play. Maybe someday someone might do that in our neck of the woods.

See if you can get the bar owners to make up the difference. In our leagues, the owner of Sweet Tooth Billiards in Phoenix, is paying everyone of the players sanction fee. It's an in-house league.

If the bar sees that they might have 5 less players a week for 20-30 weeks, $5 is no big deal. Sell it like an investment!

Woke to this e-mail.

Dear BCA Pool League Operator,

Thank you for your overwhelming support of the 33rd Annual BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships ... known as the “The Greatest Pool Tournament in the World!” We hosted over 6,900 amateur players, 2 televised international pro events, 3 live internet video feeds, and CTS tournament software with live on-line charts (an industry first).

We also want to thank you for sharing your success with us for the 2008/2009 league year. We currently support 60,441 members in 458 leagues, in 46 states, 7 Canadian provinces, the Bahamas, Portugal, and Spain.

We have some great plans for the future of the league. To properly serve your many requests for more and bigger events, the BCAPL membership fee will be $15 for the new league year ... which starts June 1 (next Monday). We wrestled through some long and hard planning sessions before settling on the fee increase. In the end, we listened to our League Operators and to our own mission statement: “More choices for all players.”

The existing fee has been a constant for the last 12 years and the increase will allow us to offer more money and more events for all your players. Now, we need you to step up with suggestions for future tournaments, and ideas for special events. With your input, we can help bring a state or regional event to your area.

Thank you once again, and please forward your questions and suggestions to info@playCSIpool.com or call (702) 719-7665.

CSI ... more choices for all players.
BCA Fees are better than APA. APA yearly memberships are $25 and this doesn't include weekly dues of $8, if you play a match.

I have been paying $15/yr BCA annual/sanctioning fees for the last five years and it's absolutely worth every penny. I suspect that different LOs, or even maybe different areas, charge different fees. Some LOs will increase the fee and some won't, I've heard that mine won't. I've seen $10, $15 and $20/yr annual fees posted in this thread, and obviously the overwhelming majority here (a gazillion to one) don't mind this increase in the least and, in fact, support what is good for pool.
:p

Trust me Tom, I live in the Valley of the Sun, and have most of the Arizona Pool Posse on my "IGNORE LIST" because IMHO they are brain dead, and I just added another one I forgot about.

Like I said if you want to flame any one flame the BCSPL as i was only post a verbatim e-mail I got from BCAPL.

Ignore list? What a good idea!
