Be careful with Matchroom Sport

Match room makes its money in Europe so IMO as long as they have the Americans to play the heel its all good for them.

Match room is not a charity. They do pool events because they make money on them as they should. Please don't think they are some benevolent organization. Money leaves they leave. As long as its profitable everyone on this forum could call them nine kinds of asshole but they wouldnt miss a beat. Its a business.

Finally....if you really think a few harsh posts on the internet could make a company like Match Room pull up on promoting pool events then we as pool fans really have become scared sheep desperate for any scraps we can get.

If I'd have used your words, no one would have listened. Your voice carrys weight IMHO. This is strictly business. The players just happen to be playing pool instead of (you fill in the blank).

My guess is their production costs are minimal compared to a sitcom or a F1 race on SKY. MGM Grand must be covering some of the costs in return for publicity. Regardless of their motivation, I sincerely hope they continue on.

BFD, I like you man, but to tell us to not tell the truth about our feelings in fear of Matchroom pulling pool from TV is LAME at best. Like JCIN wrote.....if they stop making $$$ they go video tiddlywinks, or whatever makes $$$ that day. IMO, they arent pool fans at heart.

Sadly, I don't see pool making a comeback on mainstream TV. When people are watching hotdog eating contests, housewives of anywhere, a dozen ghost shows.....wait did you hear that? was that foot steps?....pleeeeez

there is just too much junk to watch. The public is not interested in learning enough to understand pool......except trick shots, and speed pool....shame.

Thinking about it Gerry, you and Justin are probably right. We are not a big enough group to sway matchrooms decisions in any way. However I have been told that they do read these forums so we must have some kind of importance to them.

Luke Riches reads the forums. Its not in every business that so much market research can be done cost free. Mark Griffin, Justin Collett and Charlie Williams read the forums, all of them astute businessmen.

What all of them have in common, and very much to their credit, is that, regardless of what they read, they make their own decisions. Scanning the forums may, at times, give them information that may assist them in making their decisions, but those decisions are their domain, and not the domain of most who post here.

yup... you got it

it is input & most probably taken with a grain of salt since just about any topic gets good solid thought based comments, flamers and trolls in just about equal doses

Ok, maybe Matchroom made a mistake when chosing Charlie Williams as Captain of the American team, maybe they didn't thats is their call and they are a very successful promotions and sports management company and I believe know what they are doing. Do I think that CW was the right pick? No, I think there were other people out there that would have been a better pick.

Now, I have said this before and I am sure I will say it again but lets all be very careful when we vent our frustration on Matchroom. These guys are an amazing asset to the pool world and have many option to go with other sports if they feel like it. If Barry Hearn decided that it wasn't worth all the bad and negative pr he could very easy turn around and say I will take the money, sponsors and time and do an event for fishing, Boxing, Darts, etc and we would lose at least 2 great events. So I say if you don't agree with something that Matchroom does then you should absolutly say something, I am not suggesting a gag on anyone but maybe there is a nicer way to say some of the things I have read in different posts on here latley.

I have no alliance with Matchroom other than I think Luke is a great guy who works hard and that Barry Hearn is a F$8king genius. The only alliance I have is to the pool and billiards community and I already see the pro pool arena turning to crap and I just do not want us as a collective to piss off someone who does good for the sport by being nasty toward them.

Once again, I am not suggesting that we are not entitled to let Matchroom, CSI, Barry Berhman, Zuglan or any other promoter know if we feel there was something that could be improved on or something that potentially could be done better. I'm just saying lets do it ina nice, classy, and educated manner.

Just my 2 cents.

Fishing would be a major insult.

I just re-read this thread and I am more then troubled by the way I answered BFD.......not 15 years ago the same topics were being discussed on BD sites and it is VERY much like the upcoming elections in the US.

We were *****in about he same things....no money in pool.....no structured tour...no one to bank on.....where is the future?.....very much like the USA and the health insurance debate....

You all may laugh at me, but.........there was a time when on EVERY thursday night I turned on the TV and we got to watch the ....Camel 9ball Tour....and at that time we all were alll like.....why is there no more pool on TV? :)

if we could only turn back the time and watch ......the Hurricane Tony Ellen, and a VERY young Johnny Archer playing on a thursday night for the rent!!!

seriously you guys.....they were on network TV playing for their lives!!!!

I Digress!
