Being A Pro Pool Fan

Seeing a pro make amazing shots or knowing the events they won are worthy merits.

Those are merits that make it easy to know which players are worth watching.

Over the years of watching the players other things become known.

If you just found out your favorite player is currently a drug user, pervert or discriminatory, would they still be your favorite player?

No, I'm still a fan Manny Ramirez after the steroid thing and Tiger Woods after his sexual escapades too.

It would increase my admiration of them.

I mean, it's one thing to play great pool while being a goody-two-shoes (get plenty of sleep, eat right, don't get it fights, etc).

But try doing that after you've been up for three days on meth, haven't eaten in a week and started a fight with three cops and a German Shepard.

That's an accomplishment.

perving? is that even a thing? see, even my spell check is not accepting it! sounds like something from my favorite show Archer.

I have several drug-using discriminatory pervert friends and they really aren't as bad as the news makes them out to be.

If you just found out your favorite [ actor ] is currently a drug user, pervert or discriminatory, would they still be your favorite?

If you just found out your favorite [ politician ] is currently a drug user, pervert or discriminatory, would they still be your favorite?

If you just found out your favorite [ musician/band ] is currently a drug user, pervert or discriminatory, would they still be your favorite ?

If you just found out your favorite [ sports figure ] is currently a drug user, pervert or discriminatory, would they still be your favorite?

If you just found out your favorite [ religious leader ] is currently a drug user, pervert or discriminatory, would they still be your favorite?

If you just found out your favorite taco is currently a drug user, pervert or discriminatory, would they still be your favorite finger food?

The answer to that question depends on how discriminatory the taco is, and whether it's being racist, homophobic, or just plain rude.

I wasn't allowed to give you a greenie....:rotflmao1:

What the hell, it's springtime, loosen up, Mike

Since watching pool is entertainment, then I would say that the entertainment value of someone
doesn't go down, knowing some controversial fact about them. In fact, it goes up.
I'm more interested than ever to see what they do. Maybe I root against them instead
of for them, but either way I'm watching to see how they do.

Entertainment value is an interesting paradox.

What is entertaining to one person may or may not be to another.

Some people find " controversial " or " bad boy " types fascinating, while others prefer " hero " and " dashing gentlemen " types. Some like stories of struggle and pain while others like stories of devious deeds, and others like stories of adversity and triumph.

The world of pool is comprised of all types and I don't see a clear dividing line as to which aspect would be more profitable than another. Which begs the question: what image does pool want? The one that simply generates revenue, no matter what the effect on public perception?

As an example, would you be eager to " sell out" the integrity of pool players everywhere with a hit movie that portrays us all as lying, cheating, drug abusing wife beaters who live out of a 1986 Toyota tercel?
Even if it boosted industry sales by 33%? .....50%?
