Benefit Tournament for Tony Sulsar 9 ball Benefit Tournament March 28th @ Luke's in S

Hey guys

Couple of Questions - Maybe I missed it..

What's the format and size of the tables? Also the entry fee? And Can we do a Calcutta?

Load up and let's go play!

How's the entry list growing?
All of a sudden the thread got quiet!
Bumparoo for a great reason to get together and play some!!!

The list is getting bigger and bigger. Last time I tried to update it, I messed it up! So if John or PapaRed have the time, maybe one of them will update the list. They should have a better idea of who's coming than I do.

This should be a great tournament and it looks like it will have a great turnout.

Yes, I too am wondering... :p

I'm going to guess 9-ball at least... races might be determined by the number of entries. :p

I'm guessing a lot of people will be in attendance!

Sorry Zach! Robbie and John are running it, but I'll try to answer what I can...

10 8-footers
9-Ball, double elimanation
handicapped, I'm not sure on the races or the spot
$20 entry fee
no Calcutta, not sure if we'd have time ($20 sidepot, I think...)
doors should open around 9:30 (trying to get it opened early)
deadline to enter is 11 am
be there early for the silent auction and buy some raffle tickets!

NAh it's okay

I was just curious...I know ya'll have a lot on your plate right now...Thanks for the info and I'll make sure I re announce it this week at my tournaments..see you Sat morning

From all that have come up to me alone and verbally told me they are coming should make a really good field!

Races are going to be determined (as I see it, NOT what I've been told) more by time constraints. :) We don't want a week long tourny!

Our normal weekly tournament, for example, has me as a 3 and Tony is a 7. Knowing alot of the strong players coming to this, this might make a VERY long day! I have NO idea if this will be a 1 day or 2 day event. I think they are trying to make it 1 day so the Dallas players don't have to make 2 trips. Robbie runs a pretty smooth tournament, I have faith in him to make everyone happy! :)

hey guys,

Yes we are going to handicap this tournament but we won't be able to in a way that some will call "fair" . We will have a lot of strong shooters BUT since we are doing this for a good cause, we won't be running it like our regualr Sat. 9 ball tournament. One of the suggestions that's been made and I don't mine is... 5's and 4's(winners) and 4's and 3's (losers) We would also do alternating break so no one runs out their set. I understand that some don't feel like they have a chance without a buch of games spotted BUT since that's not the purpose of this tournament, I hope we can get past it. Not to mention the fact that with so many "unknown" players, clocking their speed can be difficult resulting in the ever present complaints about people not being "ranked" how they should be. If we say guys are 5's and girls(non champions) are 4's, then it takes away alot of the ammunition for griping. Not that female playes are inferior in ANY way. it's just that many (around here) are used to getting at least a game from the men (even when they don't really need it to make it fair) I personally would prefer NO HANDICAPPS.. Just simple races to 5 winners and 4 losers....

If we have the kind of turn out that I'm expecting, we will be hard pressed to finish it on Saturaday no matter HOW we handicapp it. But we know that we're going to have to shorten the races no matter how many we have.

Luke's or Bust!

Being one of the relatively "unknowns" out here, I like the format.
Keep it simple, it's not league night, it's a tournament, and not about win/loss ratios, it's about a reason to bring everyone together.
Even those of us who have not officially met Tony yet.
It's about AZb and poolplayers in general coming together to show support for one of us!

I hope to see a whole lot of you out there, and that BigTruck has a good Tourney in Waco!!

5's,4's, and 3's

But if I'm going to play there has to be a 2...lol

If we do have time I would be more than happy to run a Calcutta for you guys..Since I'm sure most of the money will go to Tony either way..Just an offer

I think a Calcutta is a fine idea! And you're right I think most of the money would go to tony anyway. we would just have to haul MUCH ASS and get the player auction done quickly so we don't delay the start of the tournament. However, with the caliber of players present, a calcutta would be a great way to raise some extra money for the benefit!

hey Ann, call me I need to ask you a couple of things...

Challenge Tony

I suggested we use the 9ft. Diamond as a Challenge Tony table. Pay $5 to challenge Tony and if you beat him, you get 5 raffle tickets of your choice.

Put me Down for $100 Coach

I'm in..I'll be there

As long as Tony's up to it...

I think the challenge table is a good idea as long as Tony is up to it. Between the Break Contest that Mike Embry is runnng, and the challenge table it should generate some good money for the cause. I doubt we'll do "5" raffle tickets if you beat him. Since most of the Raffles tickets will be 5 dollars, 1 or 2(maybe) tickets if you "beat" him should suffice. Don't want to water down all the raffles with "free tickets" . That wouldn't be fair to those that paid 5 bucks or 3 for 10 for the tickets. I think if you beat him you get 1 $5 dollar raffle ticket for the item of your choice...IMO

I'll put a hundred into the raffles...

Tony should play in the tournament if he has the strength...Besides I'm sure he'll win the tournament anyways. At least Tori did ;)...And I'll throw some more dough in if he does the Challenge Table..
