I just watched some clips of his his shot makers workout on You Tube. I like this guy! He's jacked up and loves the game and it really comes through. Any reviews on this guy from any of you out there that have seen any of his video's? I'm considering buying some of his video's. I really just want the diagrams of the shots for this workout to use daily.

his "60 Minute Workout for 8/9 Ball" tape is very good. be sure and get the right one, its the one voted the best of 1994 i believe.

other than that, i've seen some of his videos that are fine while others are just simply not very good.

Yes- his dvd's are spotty. The 60 Minute Workout is probably the best. A very similar workout is in The Pro Book by Bob Henning. In the book you have the practice diagrams you wanted. Not sure, but I think he may have put that on video as well.

I still have the Kinister practice diagrams on a piece of paper folded in my case from probably 15 years ago. I still pull them out every once in awhile. The silly diagonal draw shot (shot 2?) that he shows you isn't worth any time. He was playing on a 7' with waxed balls. Even Bert would say later that he made a mistake putting that shot on the video.

I think it is a gimmick shot. There are other drills you can do to get table length straight draw. I used to do the drill and could make the shot (sometimes). I will give you you need a perfect stroke to accomplish the shot. But people tend to spend too much time on that shot instead of investing time on the other shots that can have far more impact on your game. Bert told me directly he wished he did not put that shot on the video. He said many people became obsessed with it and never got to the other shots on the video.

I noticed a lot of shots are also in 16 critical shots... I'm ratcheting up my practice drills right now. I was doing at least 3 of the critical shots every day and really saw improvment. I had gotten lazy over the years I guess. Now I've begun laying down a target and not quiting until I can do it a predetermined times in a row. That really puts the pressure on!

Bert Kinnister

Nobody ever tried any harder to get knowledge to people who wanted it than Bert. There are a lot of great instructionals available now , but if you want to get fired up about playing get a couple from him and do them!

16 Critical Shots?

what are you referring to here?

My take on his videos are that there is some good information in them but the quality is very poor on some of them (not all). He does have a very good upbeat personality about the game which is refreshing to see. I agree with the others here, about the 60 min workout. The mighty X can be a worth while drill. For what its worth I have several videos on billiard instruction and his has been as good as anyone else's.

And it cracks me up when he says, "Ding Dong Daddy"!

Why do you think that drill isn't worth any time? I have found it very useful over the years. And, you don't need waxed balls to do it either.

I can see where it would not benefit some players,
But I have won games/matches on that draw shot
Luv It

I've got 3 of Kinister's videos. He seems to be a great instructor but the videos are poorly done. The videos I have are pretty much just taped practice sessions with one of his students. Nothing like the Dr Dave or the new Mika Immonen videos

I highly doubt Bert used waxed balls, and even though it was on a 7' table in the video I've watched him do it hundreds of times on 3 different 9' tables at his house. (without waxed Balls) Personally I think it's a great shot to practice.

It's not a bad shot to see where your stroke is...especially on a 9 footer. On a bar box It's not much of a problem. I would agree that obsessing over it won't get you far.

Some of Bert's vids may be poorly done BUT the knowledge he has still shows up. Kinister is the real deal and a good friend.....SPF=randyg

Agreed. From the videos, I can tell he is a brilliant instructor, and I wouldn't hesitate to take a lesson from him if given the opportunity. As far as the videos go, your money may be better spent elsewhere.

I absolutely love his videos. I don't own them but I subscribe to his video on demand and it has completely changed my game. I know this is an older post but if you're still up in the air about it you can get access to all of his videos via videos on demand for the cost of one tape and make your decision from there. Now, having said that... you need to bring your patience. Bert is alot of great things but video editor is not one of them. I personally feel that the knowledge contained in these tapes is priceless and in my mind is definitely worth $25/mo. I recently had the pleasure of having a private lesson with him when he was back in the Chicago area. It was by far the best $80 I've ever spent. He didn't make me drive to him. We met somewhat in the middle at Pockets in Crestwood for an hour lesson which actually ended up being more like 2.5 hrs for the same price. That is how much he cared that I actually understood what he was teaching me. After I paid, I bought him a few drinks and proceeded to teach me some one pocket for at least another hour. The next day he texts me out of the clear blue and asked how many more balls did I shoot after he left and how many had I shot today. That's how much he cares about making you a better player. I don't have enough good things to say about the guy. I know he is somehow involved with the upcoming Ultimate 10 ball event in Texas and I wish him all the best. If anyone reading this talks to him tell him Jeff from Joliet says hi.

I had his first 10 tapes about 11yrs ago man that guy brought my game up! I practiced alot of his position drills and his attitude was awesome i think from just watching and listening to him made me look at the game in a fun way again and i took that attitude to the table with me and it helped!

But it's the ole story i loaned those tapes to a friend and of course he never returned them! Why is it that seems to be the case a lot with pool videos?
