Best Accu-stat commenting conversations

On alot of accu-stat tapes there are some great stories told by the commentaters and sometimes some pretty fun bickering that goes on too. In the accu-stats 8-ball invitational tape of Mika vs. Efren, Tony Annigoni and Billy Incardona get into a pretty funny tiff as to whether women can ever match men's speed of play. In the otherwise long, boring 2004 U.S. open match of Wiseman vs. Feijen, Buddy Hall gives some interesting insight as to why he thinks 9-ball is more difficult then 3-cushion. And the Derby City Ring Games have Jimmy Mataya to thank for some great, if occasionally off-color, remarks. What are your favorite tapes in terms of commentating?

On a three cushion tape that shows a match played by Sang Lee in 1995, Robert Byrne, as commentator, relates how the legendary Welker Cochrane had once argued that having diamonds on the rails made the game of billiards "too easy". Cochrane, according to Byrne, is reputed to have tried, unsuccessfully, to have tables having diamonds on the rails, disallowed in major three cushion competition. Three cushion billiards too easy? Please.....

Check out any of the Legends of One Pocket tapes
in which Grady Matthews and Billy Incardona are
commentating together, they argue and rip into each
other quite a bit.

When Bustamante first set foot in the US, he played Earl at the Bicycle Club in Los Angeles. Jeff Carter and Tony Annigoni are hosting the match.

First of all, Bustamante looks like a grade "C" karate movie star complete with long hair, Fu Manchu, black shirt and pants, and black shoes with bright white socks. Earl was a little too much for him. Tony launches into an impression of Earl that is hilarious, talking about how he himself is "champeen of the world". I never knew how funny Tony was until seeing this tape.

On one of my accu-stats videos, one of the funniest conversations I've heard was when Bill Incardona was talking about how Grady M. once beat Buddy Hall in some tournament match 11-0...after which he proclaimed to Bill Incardona that he (Grady) was probably the best 9-ball player in the world...while Bill was chuckling about this with Buddy Hall, who was guesting as color commentator during this tape, Grady, obviously embarrassed that Bill brought it up, sorta denied it and said he didn't want Bill telling people THAT, and then the rest of the story from Bill (after which he and Buddy started just laughing out loud) was that Grady proceeded to lose his very next match...you had to hear it to appreciate how funny the conversation went...

i've heard sigel and diliberto a couple of times and i thought they were extremely informative. i like their color the most. grady + incardona = SUCK. when these two get together, all they do is rag on each other.....grady and incardona seperated are much much better.

I have a tape of Keith playing some tubby guy.
The tape was not supposed to be released.
So, the commentators went at it x-rated style and no holds-barred stories.

I remember that, it was hilarious!
There's a one pocket tape, I can't remember which
one, where Billy Incardonna is playing and Grady
Matthews is commentating with possibly Buddy Hall.
Well Billy's playing his usual defensive style of
one pocket, he's not going for any tough shots and
Grady's commenting on how Billy has no heart.
Then this shot comes up that Billy must go for, it
wasn't that hard and it wasn't really a sell-out,
but Billy ducks and plays safe and Grady says "That
is cowardice of the highest order!" and the other
commentator (Buddy, I think) starts cracking up,
it was really funny.

I believe its from a match against Dave Bollman, funny thing is Billy beat Grady in that tournament, which also is a great tape.

That may be it, the 1994 event in Roanoke, Virginia.

I couldn't agree more... I prefer Mark Willson and Incardona, myself...They are a great combination.

that was Jeff Carter doing the impersonations. I forget the guy who can really do Earl well, but he is somewhere on the highlights tape doing Earl, and Buddy voiceovers. Too funny.

It is fondly referred to as the "X-rated Accu-Stats tape" of Keith playing a guy from Pennsylvania named "Bushwhacker." I think his real name is Gary "Nolan," I think. He currently runs a pool room in Indiana, Pennsylvania. We saw him last year at Allen Hopkins' Super Billiards Expo, where I met him for the first time.

During the match, one of the commentators was Keith's backer, who was sweating the match. When it came close and Keith missed a ball, he'd come up with a few quips relating to changing the locks on the hotel room door if Keith didn't win. The whole time Keith and Gary are unaware of the chatter going on.

It is quite funny, and the reason it is X-rated is because of the profanity used from time to time. There was no nakedness (LOL)! :p

Who ended up a winner? I knew Bushwacker in the early 70's and he was a monster on the bar boxes back then. Just curious on how he plays now.
