Best all around player

I remember a big fat guy telling me that, when I was 15 and played him for 12 hours straight and won about $1,500 of his money.

LMAO!

Well good for you I'll put you on my list to prove that point , if pool was meant to be endurance why do we have short races to begin with it's certainly not the best test of skill
It's the one of the only way a lessor play can win a mid distance race is by far the best test of the better player

Several yrs back I saw a 10 ahead race with a bar box specialist Mike Painter against a not known then young gun Adam Smith
Everybody knew who Mike was maybe only Kirkwood would fool with him on a bar box and Mike jumped out to a lead quickly but Adam hung around down for several hours eventually pulled even late in the night and out lasted him as mike could barley stand up

A race to 20 30 or 40 and Adam was done ,, after several hours with Mike still up a friend asked me who wins , I looked at him and said look at Adam and look at Mike and you tell me Adam looked liked he just got out of the Shower and Mike looked like he might need CPR at any given moment
Buddy Hall could not have won that match
But maybe Adam is better than him too

Ohhh while I'm at it...my buddy Celtic is going to kill me...8 ball on 9footer for Pro's is tooooooooo easy.

WTF! Some American, pass me one of your guns!

On a real note I think 8-ball on a normal 9-footer is too easy as well. Chinese 8-ball is "almost" perfect except the snooker cut pockets making balls on the rail way harder to shoot in almost to the point they are safe is bad for the game.

Properly cut Fatboy like rails with 3 3/4 pockets on 10-foot Diamond tables would be the ultimate professional 8-ball setup IMO. Nothing would be a gimme and it would bring out all of the shot making and shape play to be the best at that game. The finals of a world 8-ball championships on equipment like that would be intense. On equipment like that anything can be missed but unlike rotation pool there is no easy ducking if you blow some shape half way through a run. 8-ball puts you under fire a lot more once you commit to trying to run out. 9-ball and 10- ball always have that safety option if you blow your shape.

During one of the last TAR events, Dennis had beat Darren in an all-around. I think Dennis lost in 1p and won in 8b and either 9b/10b.

Dennis also beat Shane a few years back in a TAR all-around. I believe Dennis won in 8b and 10b and lost in 1p.

But on any day, I think it could be Alex, Shane, Dennis, Darren.

In current form, I think Darren is the weakest.

Favored?

Here we go WHO CAN BEAT WHO? Opinions are like something cant remember. With all of these i think maybe we found a way to decide. An all around type round robin Alex,Shane, Dennis, Busty.Pay,per, view would be great ,all matches would be awsome Iwould watch if they played for nothing.P.S. In a previous post that said( Buddy wouldnt have won) It woudnt have went that long Buddy might have put a 10 on him.

Mika Immonen. Great 9 ball and straight pool player, plays a good 8 and 10 ball game and comes from a snooker background, so hes pretty good at snooker too.

Of 9b, 8b and 1P, Shane is favorite only in 9b
In 8b, Darren, Dennis and probably also Jayson are favorites over Shane. Guys like Darren and Jayson play E8B all their life before they switched to rotation. They play 8b like they drink water
Dennis and Alex would be favorites in 1P

So no, Shane is not best all around in those 3 disciplines:D

About 10 years ago Shane played Darren a big, long set of 8 ball at the derby. Shane drank all the water ...

Maybe it's time for Pat to put on another MIH, 8B, 1P, 10B and Banks on the Big Foot
As a spectator, I like the banks better 14.1

Would anyone take the Efren of 10 years ago (at 51) over Shane, Dennis, Alex, and Darren of today?

ummm yes....

Would anyone take the Efren of 10 years ago (at 51) over Shane, Dennis, Alex, and Darren of today?

Efren was unbeatable at one hole then and could beat anyone at8 ball and rotation games.

In fact he did win the IPT several times around that time frame...

One of the commentators at DCC made the remark after Alex won the All around, that he is the only Player that has ever won every discipline at DCC. Kind of hard to not say he is the best living.

According to Ronnie Allen. Harold Worst was the best. He won National Championships in everything.

And I think both Billy Incardona and Mark Wilson said after Alex won the DCC MOT that they thought he was the best all-around player in the world today.

Ok, were playing 8 Ball, 9 Ball, and One Pocket. If 12 of the top pros played a marathon of these games for a year against each other with races to 25 except a race to 9 in One Pocket and winner breaks who would be the best at the end of the year ?

I know it's dreaming so dream with me and tell me your thoughts.

I think it would be either Shane or Alex.

Its too bad we can only dream.
Too bad we dont see more streams of these guys going after each other.
that TAR match with alex vs shane where alex came back stuck 22 games was the best match ever IMO.
Too bad it was 8 years and we dont see more of that.

Races to 100 are awesome with the best players in the world.
But TAR is dead ..... Frenchy is completely bonkers.
If upstateal or povpool or bigtruck want to just put on exhibition matches and split the stream revenue with the players Id be a buyer.

I know Efren is considered the best one pocket player ever, but Alex is phenomenal. Wouldn't he give Efren some trouble even if Efren was in his prime?

I think Dennis beat Shane in 10 ball and 1 pocket, but lost the 8 ball even though he hardly missed a shot
