What did i miss on al and johnny? The last thing i heard was al telling everyone to cool it with the bad commentsUpstate al’s chewing and smacking his lips while commentating is gross And his belittling of Johnny archer yesterday was shameful. Especially after kicking people off his stream for doing that same thing saying he only accepts positivity . Yeah ok. He gets my vote.
I can't believe you admit that publicly. I mean, we all have that one cousin, but I've never admitting it ;-)I know I’m biased but I love listening to Jerry Forsyth on the mic. He’s family though.
I realize that is all subjective but I actually liked Nick in the booth, especially when he had Buddy there with him. Their insights and rack analysis was priceless. As far as Up State Al is concerned, he should probably try something else.Nick Varner. Worst. His co-comm. will say something mildly amusing and Varner will let out this loud laugh that could be heard in the next county. Nevertheless his expertise is welcome.
Faves...J.J, Freezer, Richie Granier, diLiberto, except for his many mistakes about balls going in.
Sky Woodward's backwood's patois should be irritating, but not if you're a big fan like me.

Props to a couple of elite commentators of yesteryear that I overlooked in Jay Helfert and Jimmy Wych.Best commentators to which I've listened are Billy Incardona and Alex Lely. Not far behind are Jeremy Jones, Karl Boyes, Nick Varner and Mike Sigel. For straight pool, the best was Dan DiLiberto. The most entertaining commentator of all was probably Sid Waddell. For Euro-tour events, I've always enjoyed the commentary of Imran Majid. I think Phil Yates has shown some progress as a commentator in the past two years, and when he's in form, he can be a poor man's Sid Waddell. Phil's not yet a top commentator, but he has been upping his game of late.
The worst is a tough choice in a sport where it seems anyone is allowed in the commentary booth. Of those who did major events, I'd say the worst was Jeff Conway, a super nice guy who always had pool's best interests at heart, but he was an awful commentator.
Buddy would give you insights into the game and his knowledge was great he would tell you before hand what they where going to .No longer around, well Buddy is, but Grady and Buddy were my all-time favorites.
Agree. And Wych is not just of yesteryear. He commentated at several of the recent U.S. Pro Billiard Series events.Props to a couple of elite commentators of yesteryear that I overlooked in Jay Helfert and Jimmy Wych.
i thought he was a jerk ....... someone asked him if fedor was going to defend hes title at the midwest bartable classic ....... and he said dont think fedor is going to play anymore SLUM bartable tournements wich is one of the bigest bartable tournements around ..... he could of said i think he wants to focus on mostly big table tournements that would of been fine ....... and i understand compleatly ........ and they was also bashin efern reyes and earl strickland more than once ...... smhI felt the same way about him. I thought he even made Collin look better. Molina Mike is a distraction along with a lot of people that wander aimlessly into the booth and sit in front of a microphone.
Mark Wilson talks about more than the stroke, I think you're just biased. And stroke fundamentals are what are necessary to be consistent which leads to good play. Look at just about any top pro - they do the same routine for almost every shot. It's the basis for excellence. And remember, we're amateurs - Mark is keeping our attention focused on how to improve instead of just marveling at incredible shot making. If you want to get better listen to him.Good, JJ, Frost, Earl, John Schmidt, Rich Granier. Worst is Mark Wilson. Can't stand that guy. He always says the exact same things and only ever talks about fundamentals the whole match. Smooth cueing action, transition from back stroke to front stroke, aids in consistency, etc etc. gets tiresome.
Its my opinion. I know who he is. I don't want a stroke clinic every time I watch a match. He says the same shit every match. Gets tiresome. Biased against what? I don't like him commentating matches.Mark Wilson talks about more than the stroke, I think you're just biased. Alan McManus is my favorite snooker commentator by far….he was a good player, he knows of what he talks about, and I love his Scot accent….he speaks it soft and is easy to listen to. A Scot told me a long time ago that there is no word in German that a Scot can’t pronounce, as harsh as they can be….Alan has none of that.check out the WPS 8-ball tournament from around 2016, i believe it's on the youtube channel billiard network. chinakhov and corteza played the final. nick varner was the tournament commentator and it was excellent.
never had an issue with his voice/accent but then again i can listen to alan mcmanus' thick scottish and don't miss a beat.
I’m glad I had an opportunity to do a podcast with Mike. Totally cool guy in my book!!I felt the same way about him. I thought he even made Collin look better. Molina Mike is a distraction along with a lot of people that wander aimlessly into the booth and sit in front of a microphone.
