Best bang for the buck

Now I realize that the forum members here are the shy types who have problems voicing their opinions  but with all the cue makers out there I am wondering if there is any concensus on which cue maker provides the "best bang for the buck" on the lower end (under $700) custom cues? Not really speaking of simply SPs..just a helluva cue for a helluva price ; in other words, a very under-valued cue.

I'm not sure how much they cost now, but Falcon's were pretty cheap back in the day, and they hit and felt quite a bit like a Schon to me. I think they had a slightly different taper though.

I think ultimately if I was just looking for a cheap cue that plays pretty well I'd spend 150 bucks and get a Lucassi and I wouldn't be afraid to take it into bars etc..

For my own self though I'd rather pop a little more and get a nice sneaky.

Jack Madden

Jack had several cues in your price range. He shot with one of his cocobola cues at the Pro Am event at Valley Forge.....Great looking understated cue, and man could he hit with it.....I believe he told me it was in the neighborhood of $400. He's a member here as well

I will give Jack Madden a Big Thumps up also

I will give Jack a Big Thumps up also as I have several of his Cues, and they are a Good Value for Dollar Spent....:D

Layani Cues may have just what you're looking for. The hit, fit, finish and balance are world class and Thierry Layani is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Something in their "Natural Collection" may just fit the bill for you, if you see something you like contact Thierry Layani (his contact info is on the page):

I was about to say the same thing. Give M. Layani a call!:)

I met him once to try his cues...and WOW. Nice products and nice down-to-earth guy who seems to enjoy life

I can recommend Mark Smith, he made me a cue about a year ago and I was very happy with it. The quality and playability was super, plus the shafts were some of the nicest I have played with.

Pat Diveney gets every vote I can make.

I'll second this. And I just realized he posts here as I think "Butterflycues."

Sheldon Lebow will make a simple cue within that price range. The hit and quality of his cues are superb. I'm a diehard advocate of Southwest cues, and Sheldon's cues (I've hit with many of them.) are about the only other cue I've tried that really tempt me.

He also makes fantastic Sneaky Petes for a very reasonable price. I think his website is lebowcues.com or you can reach him on this forum as "sheldon."

I would definitely contact JW Petree as well. Hell of a nice guy and makes a great hitting cue.
