best bar table player

Jay, you need to put your opinion in on this one. Best ever? What about Buddy, Bakersfield Bob and Mr Salazar?

Buddy at one time only layed bar tables and played them REAL WELL. He wouldn't miss anything for days on end.

Bobby Hernandez was fun to watch to me. The man played on pure heart. Took no practice swings, just put his hand down and pulled the trigger. I heard from many that he was one tough dude too. Nice guy though, I liked him.

Joe Salazar always gets mentioned as one of the best and back in the mid
70"s he may well have been. He sure has a lot of stories and a pretty impressive resum'e. I have never heard him mention getting beaten.

I would put at least 5,000.00 on James Walden against Justin on a bar box. Justin is a really good player...I just think Walden can outlast him...

I would go in with you on this one.

Why wasn't James in Olathe.

:yeah: :yeah:

i totaly agree w/ you, but i gotta say that the same goes on the flip side for some people including me. I play good on the 9 footers b/c there's room to move (assuming we're talking 8ball), you break big on a big table and everything opens up...you break big on a barbox and alot of times the balls fly out and cluster up again because the table's way smaller. one of the best quotes i've heard in relation to this was, "sure, these dinky table are smaller, but that just means an inch is that much more important." back to the topic at hand, best bar table player....i'm gonna say....weldon rogers.
BB 8 ball, with the big cueball, Weldon was almost unbeatable.

I heard he had health issues.....hope he is ok...
I thought he vowed to never go back after the last one? He had quite the tirade on the action report forums. He might of got over that and just didnt make it because he was sick though.

Bottom line is there are a shit-ton-of-people that can put 6-10 racks together on a bar table. I've seen a very weak player run 2 on a bar table and can't make 3 balls in a row on a 9ft. Rather than ask who the best bar table player is, ask who breaks em' the best day in day out on a bar table. They ALL get out.

thats the deal. bar table is too easy for some .of those guys. when you hit that little streak where the break is going good and you are getting a shot, the top players just overpower the table. It is just tooooo easy when you play that good.

Im sure im missing a few but heres a short list:grin:

you must not get out much.

Not sure if Frost would qualify as the best bar table player, but i think he could give anyone a run for their money playing 9 or 10 ball. Don't think he'd be in the best all time, but with today's players he'd be up there.

I thought i heard on TAR that he would bet anyone playing on a bar table.

I seen him on TAR at Olathe get put over a guys lap and spanked like a kid out of 1k on the bar box. Of course, he was absolutely giving up WAYYYYY 2 much weight....he isnt good enought to give up the breaks and wild 7.....he got schooled....WTF was he thinking:confused:

Not saying Scott isnt good, just wasnt a smart bet on his part.

Hey, those are a good start. I've never seen the Pinoys play barbox, so I can't gauge them.

Back when I was playing pool hard and heavy..I seen a local guy, Mark Shipley play Matlock here at a bar with the big ball, giving Mark the wild 8, race to 13 for 1000.. Mark broke and ran 9 racks.. beat him out of 1000..then they came back and played straight up with Mark getting the breaks..final score was 13-10. That was some of the best pool Muskogee has ever seen......unless you count the time Joe Salazar came to town and just barely beat Frank Henry on the 9' tables...

Crawfish

Me and the wife will be in Raleigh NC in March for about 2 weeks. Any good places to play?

Guess you missed Scott beating SVB on a bar table a few days later??

And IF you watched this match, you also heard Scott say that he did not match up the game with the kid AND it was not his money. He was told to play by the person staking him. AND that kid would have beaten ANYONE at that game for that hour the way he was breaking. As Scott stated, the kid was beating the 7 ball ghost without ball in hand.

The general public is scarey.

And for the record (like I say every time the best bar table player issue comes up), Cory is the best bar table player alive...

Yes, he recently beat SVB on the bar box, but if I read the posts correctly, wouldn't match up without some goofy break rules (read: "WEIGHT") to keep SVB's break from becoming "an issue". Props to Corey on being smart enough to get what he needs to win, but the question remains: Who wins if SVB get to break like normal?

One short set in a tournament. Does Frost really want to play SVB heads up long sets? He was getting the 8 @ 10-ball the other night.

All I'm saying is compare apples to apples.

No gaff breaks, no one, short set victories.

If you locked them in a room with $1000 each, and they only get to bet $1 a game. Who come out with the cash?
