Platinum BIlliards did a test using a robot that could simulate exact stoke speeds using 20+ types of break cues.

I've used a J&J jump break cue for 9 years, mind you that this is with a standard Aegis ferrule and not the short phelonic ferrule that is used now. I continue to have solid consistent breaks with this cue, great shooting cue too when you have that great feeling after the break and just want to continue the rush to run the rack, and jumps have been decent too. Not the best for jumpping, IMHO, but its been decent. Overall, I think its worth the time, effort, and money to use a J&J jump break cue. Definitely, won't need to feel worried about getting it stolen nor having to worry about the harshness of abuse on the cue. Definitely don't need to get attached to it emotionally since its so easy to replace...
Can i get like the top 5 around ?
For the past 3-4 years ive been using a cheap jump/break and im growing tired of it, and i have a normal jump cue now. So i was thinking of getting a break cue. I will probably be trying out a few of the top ones.
I appreciate any help.
(i do not want or need a jump/break combo)
Predator BK2 to stand above them. its the only phenolic tip cue where I feel I have a bit of control over the cueball. Heck, I've managed to run a rack with it including a table length draw only chalking on the break.

I like my Kevin Varney Break/Jump cue. It breaks very well and is solid as a rock. I have broke with a Predator Bk2 and it seemed whimpy to me. I'm surprised the Varney Break/Jump cue it wasn't included in the ratings.
For me, there is two names. Rick Howard, and Andy Gilbert. I personally prefer either to any other I have ever tried. And I have tried a bunch, lol.
