Best Break Cues

I'm curious what is the consensus on the best break cues (at least top 3 or 4). I know a majority of the serious players carry a break cue in their case. Jumping doesn't matter to me because I have a torn labrum in my shoulder (it hurts to jump). I feel nothing when shooting. It's hard to say what's the best with playing cues because of all the different styles of players. I'm right handed but break with my left hand due to back problems from breaking thousands of times right handed. When I break left handed it doesn't bother my back. My break isn't bad but not as good as it used to be with my dominate hand. The last few years I've been using a Mezz Power Break 2. I'd like to try something different. Breaking left handed, I need a little bit more advantage. So what's the consensus???

It's an opinion. Everyone has one. I'm curious what the consensus is. If you ask 1000 people about cars and a majority say Toyota, it means something.

J&J since that's what I have for sale.

For myself I just use an old Meucci with a Triangle tip on it.

Depends on your budget I guess.
Not saying I have tried every break cue out there, but I have tried most production break cues and a couple of custom ones.
If I where to recomend a break cue and not think of the budget, my choice would be a Mezz Kai cue with the Deep Impact Pro H shaft fitted with a Taom 2.0 tip.
If that`s to much $$ my choice would be a Joss Thor Hammer with a Taom 2.0 tip.
For under $300, it`s about the most soundly constructed break cue you can buy.

I have been trying out a new dedicated break cue to the market....and am extremely impressed with it! Mike Durbin

I hit a bunch. Albeit I didn't try any custom or super high end break cues, but they all seemed about the same to me. It seems like it's mostly just a matter of a good tip (I ended up with a Samsara) and whatever you're comfortable with in terms of grip/butt and shaft. I settled on a McD Stinger. I love the 13.5mm shaft (even though I've always played with a 12.4 to 12.75 shaft). It lets you have a really flat tip radius and still get some spin on the ball without getting too off center on the shaft. The beefy taper on the butt helps me hold on to it without a death grip.

Unless you're uncomfortable with the Mezz for some reason, I think it's unlikely that you're going to find another break cue who's performance is so significantly better that it's going to make any real difference in your south paw break. I have to wonder, though, why your break is hurting your back to begin with. That doesn't seem right.

I have been making 14mm straight tapered solid maple break shafts.
I put a 14mm white diamond Tip with a cap less melamine thick walled ferrule.

Pm me if you are interested .

I have hands slightly bigger than a medium size and there is no way in hell i can break close grip with a 14mm shaft.
13mm is plenty stiff if you do the taper right in my opinion.

Fully understandable, I use a 13mm shaft for breaking too, I make the shafts the way the customer wants to a certain point.

But I am finishing a 14mm break shaft on the lathe as I write this and I have to say it feels pretty dam good.
And looks pretty good too.
