Best break tip?

What do you think is the best break tip? Phenolic or leather. Is there a brand that you prefer?

I can't even tell you how happy I've been with the Samsara leather JB tip. My 2 cents.

Yes hit em solid and control the cue. How ever I just smash the rack and chase the cue ball there after.

I'll have it no other way

More control with leather. There is a very hard tip made by Madman here on AZ. I haven't had any complaints.

I use and install the madman break tips, no complaints and they perform better than expected. IMO

I have used and installed both the Samsara and the MadMan break tips for myself and for customers.

I prefer the MadMan.

My 2 cents,

I tried a search for this but I couldn't find exactly the info I was looking for. I have a J&J jump/break that I got about 6 or 7 years ago. It has a black one piece phenolic tip/ferrule. I've been getting a lot of miscues lately so I've been thinking about switching to a Samsara tip. My question is how hard is it to have a Samsara tip put on when what I have on there now is a short stubby 1 piece? Would a new ferrule have to be installed or could the new tip be placed on top of what is currently there? I'm a newb when it comes to this cue work stuff.

I have a Samsara J/B tip on a BK2, and I swear by it. So do the guys I play with, some of them don't even use their break cues, they prefer to use mine.

The best break tip that I have tried is the new ultra skin HH tip from Tom Hay. This leather tip breaks great with power and great control. I can even jump with it. It out performs my phenolic break tips in every way.
Great job Tom.

I decided to go with the Samsara hard leather.... I went to my local Predator dealer and I think he put "WAY" too big of a radius on it.... what do you think samsara 001.jpg

IMO, I think that's to much tip I love my new tips really low somewhere below what looks like a half way point on that tip.

My mind would start blaming missed balls with a taller tip if it were on a playing cue.

I feel the tip height changes the feel of the cue.

I don't care for that much tip either but my concern is the radius, shouldn't a break cue have a fairly flat radius?

Personally, I like my break cue tips to be practically flat. If anything, just a little bevel around the edges, that's it.

Thats about optimal for a break tip Eric. When I install one, thats how I cut it. Then if the customer wants something else, they can adjust it.

I used to think that a phenolic tip was the best thing since sliced bread.

I just put on a very hard leather break tip on my Thor Hammer. Didn't care for it at all compared to the Joss tip that it came with.

I have installed quite a few Super Pro tips for breakers. I'm very much starting to lean towards them and pressed Triangles.

You get great control and they won't mushroom.

I have used my friends breaker with a Samsara quite a bit and they are a decent tip. Seems that you seldom break dry with one. And that was good for me cause I'm not a great breaker.

What? The flatter profile? If so, I like it. The flatter profile seems to work best, for me.

samsara

i put samsara on ob classic shaft. well i made ferrule and tip pad myself and it breaks superb considering i got no speed. 23mph my highest ever.

Thats what I meant Eric. As far as I'm concerned, you want as much tip on the cue ball as possible.
And if you are breaking from the side using a bit of English, you have enuff profile to do that also.
