Best break tip?

I've had 2 samsara's installed by 2 different cue technicians, they both played great but each one started chipping chunks off. I would then take the tip down, play for a month then another chunk would fly off! I will not try them anymore.
I always liked the factory Predator phenolic tips they use on their BK lines.

What do people think about Mezz's Sonic tips?

I pulled the trigger on a Powerbreak Pro and feel like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for the shipping.

Break tips

I would also like to hear if anyone has tried the Icebreaker tips.

Also, you will love that Mezz...

Thats about optimal for a break tip Eric. When I install one, thats how I cut it. Then if the customer wants something else, they can adjust it.

I used to think that a phenolic tip was the best thing since sliced bread.

I just put on a very hard leather break tip on my Thor Hammer. Didn't care for it at all compared to the Joss tip that it came with.

I have installed quite a few Super Pro tips for breakers. I'm very much starting to lean towards them and pressed Triangles.

You get great control and they won't mushroom.

I have used my friends breaker with a Samsara quite a bit and they are a decent tip. Seems that you seldom break dry with one. And that was good for me cause I'm not a great breaker.

So do you think it's better to leave the tip on that came with the Thor hammer ?
I wonder if the tip on the Thor is a Wizzard hard tip looking at the pics

I've had phenolic, Samsara, IceBreaker, and White Diamond. Like the White Diamond more than any. Have more control with it.

Try different ones and go with the one you like best.
Some of the folks on AZ have alot of knowledge & can suggest some of the better products out there without years of trial & error. If the general consensus is that tips A, B & C are the best... more times than not they are.

The Mezz Powerbreak Pro with the Deep Impact Pro shaft and Sonic Tip is the absolute BEST break cue I've ever had.

I have both shafts for it; the R (Ash) and the H (Massaranduba).

I can crush the rack with less effort and more control with this setup than any other break cue I've ever tried.

What do you think is the best break tip? Phenolic or leather. Is there a brand that you prefer?

It's all a matter of personal preference. Most people like to break with a super hard tip. I don't any more. I use a medium Tiger Sniper tip and it works great for me.

Samsara

I like the Samsara jump/break tip and I keep a flat spot in the center that is about 1/4 of the tip size.

I tried a search for this but I couldn't find exactly the info I was looking for. I have a J&J jump/break that I got about 6 or 7 years ago. It has a black one piece phenolic tip/ferrule. I've been getting a lot of miscues lately so I've been thinking about switching to a Samsara tip. My question is how hard is it to have a Samsara tip put on when what I have on there now is a short stubby 1 piece? Would a new ferrule have to be installed or could the new tip be placed on top of what is currently there? I'm a newb when it comes to this cue work stuff.[/ QUOTE]

I have the cheap Fury J/B that came with carbon fiber tip/ferrule. Took off the tip & replaced with Samsara. I imagine you can do similar...leave the phenolic ferrule and sand, saw, cut whatever... the tip off and replace.

To the OP:
Have to go with your own personal feel...what you like and feel.
For me, had to be CSI, APA legal, so Samsara all the way. Expensive but I love it...great for jumping, too.
---Just my opinion---

subjectivity alert . . .

Mr. Lomax gave some sage advice that you should try to break with some different tips to see which ones impress you.

For me, these are the two, in order, that I like the best.

1. White Diamond

2. Samsara

best,
brian kc

I have tried Samsara, Mezz, G10, phenolics and I like White Diamonds the best. Better control on break and jump shots.

Man, I had a white diamond on a J&J and I could not keep from miscuing on power breaks. Those tips are like rounded marble ;) (hence the term 'diamond' in the name lol). Of course it was my own fault for being a pool noob.
I had to switch to a Sammy because I don't like doing a control break every time. Sometimes I just gotta wail at 'em. Now I can do exactly that with a Samsara @ about a quarter diameter...to me, flatter= better on the break/jump

Which shaft do you prefer?

I got the Massaranduba shaft-haven't read a single bad thing about it (other than the weight) and Mezz/Predator are industry leading in break technology.

Can't wait to post a video and review when I get it, it's been tough finding a lot of feedback on it.
