Best cue for under $350?

The Pechauer "hit" is stiffer than the McDermott. The closest "hit" to a one piece house cue is a McDermott with a 3/8 x 10 pin into wood and a plastic type joint. Having tried both and rep. both, McDermott is less expensive generally and 100% waranty on all parts including warpage!

After browsing the market I think I have narrowed it down to the Pechauer or Mcdermott. I will most likely buy used and put a better shaft on it like most of you have suggested. Although I started playing pool at a young age I have never been accustomed to an expensive cue/custom usually just your typical house cue. I do have some friends who play with Mcdermotts and love them, but could someone explain some key differences and explain why you would prefer one over the other.

Thanks

Best cues for < $350

The best cue for under $350 could certainly be a McDermott cue. I am an authorized McDermott dealer and can sell them at a significant discount. I urge you to check out the entire McDermott cue line at www.mcdermottcue.com and if there's any question you have or you want a quote on a cue please PM me back or call me at the number I left on your PM, thanks Brian.

Nothing like a thousand opinions

to help you make up your mind, huh? I am with the crowd that advocates getting a Sneaky Pete or low end custom cue. They are made better, have better balance (real important to me), and will last, and hold their value.

Bob Owen of Shurtz Cues, my cuemaker, offers a low end custom for $280, last I knew. He keeps these low end customs in stock, and you could probably get a pretty nice one for $350.

I'd personally get a joss, bcm, or rat cue new, or more likely a schon used for that money.

I'd also look very seriously at a sneaky from www.dzcues.com Bob makes a great cue and is very under rated imho.

Tonto21 I have just bought a scorpion johnny archer series cue (JA 04) with joint protectors for $150 that's including postage & packing from this forums sponsor pooldawg.com.

I bought a Dominiak back when he was doing the 100$ cues, and since then I've 'upgraded' several times, yet I keep on coming back to that Dominiak. I don't think he still sells that cue, but based on my experience, you get a real nice player with him. I still get lots of compliments on the beautiful curly maple in that cue also.

I would hands down get an Ebay Dale Perry. There is a lot of bad blood because he turned his custom cues into semi-production but it is a great cue for the price.
