Best Hard Tip Out There?

OK, I'm normally a soft or medium soft (Kamui) tip guy, but after trying a harder tip, I have to admit, I'm thinking of coming over to the dark side!

I'm wondering what you guys that play with a harder tip like?

I should also say that I'm looking for one that not only has some good feel, but most importantly doesn't miscue on every other shot.

Any suggestions???

Leather or layered? I have heard some good feedbacks on here about the Tiger Emerald tips, I think they are a harder tip if I haven't mistaken, haven't tried one myself. But let me know what you are looking to use, leather or layered. I have been playing with softer tips, elkmasters and had a kamui MS, and now I mainly shoot with an everest tat came with my OB2. It is a pretty good tip, I don't mind using it again, but I would like to use a MS Kamui on the OB2

My McDermott came with a Triangle and I like it just fine. It's a one piece tip that's a bit harder than a Moori hard. Haven't had to buy a new one yet but they are dirt cheap since you can buy a whole box of 50 for what a single layered tip costs.

I just tried an Emerald on my backup cue. I think it's softer than my Moori Medium. I've switched over to a Super Pro which, although rated at about 74 by Seybert's (medium hardness rating), is a pretty hard tip. You can really feel the hit when you play with one and I get excellent cue ball control. It's a layered tip but very inexpensive - less than $2.00. Try it, I think you'll like it.

Leather: Triangle is my favorite.

Layered: I normally use Moori or Wizard Med. However, I put on a Kamui Black Med. on one of my shafts and it seems a lot harder so you might try that. Beyond that Wizard, Moori, Talisman and Kamui make hard tips if you want harder.

As for a good deal I got some of these and put some of them on the bar sticks at the local pub: http://www.cuecomponents.com/he23lameexse.html

+1 for SuperPro ... I switched over from Moori Mediums several months ago
and have never looked back ...

Try a Kamui Blacked, Medium Hard.
I switched to one and after a month it still hasnt mushroomed at all.
On Draw shots, I am striking the cue ball lower with fewer miscues than the other hard tips Ive tried.

Kamui hard tips are the way to go. I've been playing with kamui hard tips for sometime now and I think they are the best out there. I have several friends who now use them too.

I have installed a few of the kamui black tips and most peeps here do not like them. But the all love the standard kamui tips.

hope this helps.

I like the Wizard hard tips, but Ive been using a hard as hell single layer water buffalo tip that plays great, just make sure not to shave it down too far, cuz then it gets toooooo hard, lol. I can still play with it though.

i switched to moori quick couple months ago and im having problems with mushrooming and glazing all the time and loosing my patience.i was thinking of putting triangle or kamui hard or even a milk dud on my 314 what do you recommend?

I like Super Pro's, Talisman hard and xhard and Morri Quick. Super Pro is by far the best for the money buy. I just looked on ebay and our own Koinnkid has them 50 for $38 with free shippiing. So that's what... about .76 cents each.

Thanks for the input so far guys. I really appreciate it.

I'm a fan of the Kamui layered tips, and use the MS one right now.

I'd be willing to try either a layered or leather tip.

Thanks again!

Mike,

I sent you a PM about 2 tips I use and my opinion on them.

Thanks for the PM! That might be a way to go.

Those of you that are using the harder tips, are miscues just part of life, or can you eliminate a lot of that by the way you prep and maintain the tip?

Thanks again!

Three Words, Mike

Kamui Black Hard.

Miscues much less than reg Kamui II hard.

Keeps its shape, doesn't mushroom, lasts forever. I have been playing with one on my Rick Howard cue for 4 months and it looks the same as when I bought the cue. Still in perfect shape.

Personally, I believe that most miscues are due to a faulty stroke at the time and have nothing to do at all with the tip.

Not sure if there is more miscues or not, I've always used a hard tip and have very few miscues. But I don't get overly wild with english either. I like to use nickle shape, burnish sides, rough with sand paper then pierce with tip pick slightly and twist to rough more then pierce deep (no twist) for chalk holding holes. Seems to work.
