What is the best hustle you have ever done?

A friend and I went bar hopping and ended up at this place that a few tables. He started trash talking to me wanting to play me for money. I only had 5 dollars to my name but he wanted to bet higher. I dont bet unless I have it even though he said I was good for it. He wanted a 100 dollar bet. I told we will start off with 5 and by the end of the night I would own his 100 dollars. Well the owner was sitting there watching this and knew I was decent shot. He threw a hundred bill on the table and said Dave your covered. Me and my friend (John) looked at each other. He racked and I broke n ran hooked myself on the 8 missed he ran out and we split the money. I walked out immediatley in disgust (acting of course) and waited in his car.

Sounds like you took the bar owners money if i understand your story thats not hustling in my book thats deception of someone you know. did you owe the owner a 100 dollars? name should be stick in your eye said the bar owner.

That's not a hustle

There is a fine line between a good hustle and downright fraud. I can't define it but I can smell it and the odor here is overpowering. Don't think the guy won't figure it out when he sees you two cozy with each other. I had a rule that I never really thought about but it was don't f*** the bartender.

I don't like hustlers but what you have done is simply beyond. There is nothing to be
proud of. Wrong,Wrong,Wrong.........................Long time ago someone got caught
doing something like that, you don't want to know how he end up. But that was old
school. I just hope you'll change.

Well, that's what we call dumping a backer and it's no hustle. It's a good way to lose backers though. What happens when some guy wants to play for $500 and you go ask the bar owner to stake you?

So was it worth the $50?
 
This kind of reminds me of one time I was out fishing at Grand Lake with a friend. It was maybe 10-12 years ago and I had no money with me. We drove 2 hours out of town and fished. We fished, and fished, and fished, and had no luck.

We were so depressed that on the way back we had to get a drink. We stopped by the local bar called 'the Cove' and there were some junky bar boxes there. After sitting there for 10-15 minutes, we had noticed a cocky old man beating everyone and sat down a couple chairs from us. He was drinking Hennessey out of a special cognac glass. He leaned over and said, 'One of you boys any good at pool?' My friend, who was a mouthy soccer player had a few more bucks than I did, and I only had five on me. I did not want to get into it I was so depressed about the fishing. My buddy could sense that I was not wanting to play, and because of that, he stood up and said, "I got five bucks on my friend here!" I was irritated.

I racked, he broke, and I missed a couple, and he missed a couple. I won, and for the next five games or so, it went like that. He wanted to jack the bet to $20 a game. My buddy on the side was playing stakehorse betting side bets with others who were watching. I lost maybe one game, and walked away with about $180 from the pool bet alone. The sticks were crap, the tables were crap, and the guys attitude was crap which was why everyone in the bar loved it when I busted the dude. Even the bartender was happy because he was broke and had no choice to go home.

What triggered me to remember this was the OP saying that he walked in with only five bucks. After that is where the OP's story and my story differs greatly. I can't say I hustled the guy, because the guy asked for it. He deserved to get beat, and I only did so because most everyone there seemed like he was the local 'pool bully', and no one around appeared good enough to shove it up his a$$. What I get from the OP is that he is bit off base with his line of thinking saying that he is some big hustler when in fact he is delusional. It's actually kind of the same thing as 2fast for fleas publicly saying he will play anyone for 10K, when in fact he meant to throw everyone for a curve, and later saying he will play anyone only at his house for the next 333 days, and if they don't show up, they can pay him. That is like shouting to the whole world, "Hey, I am the best pool player there is! I can beat anybody! ...........but only in my mind."

I think many will have an issue with your story. There is a big difference between a hustle and chopping, cutting up or dumping. This is the kind of thing that gets ugly if found out.

This is one reason why backers have moved on to other gambling avenues like poker.

It would be very different if the bar owner stepped up and played you because he thought you sucked. That would be a hustle. (some people even take offense to this.)

But dumping to your buddy and taking the cash is stealing and will kill action with anyone who knows about it.

I definately wouldn't brag about this. I wouldn't even match up with anyone who does this. This is a really big deal......

I don't Hustle. Never have never will. If one is trying to hustle me I will quit playing.

Sounds to me like you two knew each other....in my eyes, your a thief!

You have ALOT to learn, thats not a Hustle...that is Stealing, and not in a good way...Red rep

This makes me think........Here is how I will hustle someone....

I will take my pool cue (wal mart cue of course not my Sugartree) I will walk up to an old lady riding one of them electric scooters....bash her over the head and take her purse and run.....I used a pool cue so thats a hustle right:grin:
