Best Money Player Alive Today

you could be right my friend, but one thing's for sure, the poster boy will have a dog fight on his hands ...

Trust me, when James is right none of them have to like it . Champion or no champion

As they say "true dat"

Yeah I guess if we conisder money players that are still alive consdiering their whole career then I'd have to go with Buddy Hall, David Matlock, and probably Efren Reyes.

Anyone have a picture of Richie Ambrose they can post or a link where there is one? Johnnyt

The answer may depend on the responder's age and where they live.

Keith McCready is the best money player alive today. In fact, at one time, many a player came to California to play the 19-year-old who boasted he could give the world the 8. And they all left with empty pockets, including world-class champions. Of course, there is the time he won big in Las Vegas, a paultry $360,000. He traveled the country from coast to coast many times over. McCready is known mainly for his action, much more so than tournament play.

As one example of "who's the best," a topic which pops up on this forum quite freuqently, Hall of Fame inductees are usually based on favoritism, more so than who is really qualified for entry, and so is this thread. Ironically, when Jose Parica was asked who was the best money-playing player he knew, the first name that popped out of his mouth was Keith McCready.

Favoritism? Yep. That's my selection.

This arguement should probably be prefaced by discipline, but if you look at the player with the highest winning gambling percentage, there is one name that jumps out at me as the best money player over the past 10-15 years ....

Jose Parica

Now, flame all you want all you Efren fans but i'd be willing to bet my home that Parica has a higher winning percentage than Efren .... Jose just plays so damn strong for the dough, it's unbelievable ....

Another super strong money player is James Walden. This guy does'nt get mentioned with the John Shmidts(sp) and the SVBs but to tell you the truth, other than Parica, he'd be my pick to beat any of those champions in a marathon race. Walden is a friggin monster for the dough and pound for pound the best all-around/all-games player ...

What say you?

I say please let me play james walden?

I remember hearing this question years ago at a pro 10 ball tourney. They pointed to a guy who I've never seen before and wasn't playing in the tournament. They told me that he gives quite a few pros the 7 ball.

I'd make a bet that the best cash player out there is not on television and there's a good chance that you've never heard of them.

I would have to agree with James Walden. He's from around my hometown. I've watched him play Buddy Hall, he beat Alex Pagulayan, and even gave Michael Coltrane the 7. Tulsa is (was) a breeding ground for strong players. Why do you think Gabe Owen is so good?

I would agree that James is one of the top American Money players, and I really like the guy and his hert, but as Jay said, I don't think anyone from here can fade the heat of those guys across the pond. They are just too damned strong. For the dough, they simply grab a gear the Americns cn't handle.

Jay mentioned some animals from years past, but things have changed so much.Americans just don't have the ice water in their veins as the old timers did. For those who didn't see it, well, it a different era alltogether.

A couple he could have added were Buddy, Denny Searcy, Richie Florence and others, but, he made a great poit and went a little further back.

hi

i think that until we americans start playing each other races to say 15 for 100 everyday all day everytime we are in the same room together we are not going to be the sharpest we can be.
we live far apart not all in one spot like manilla. also we
always seem to be trying to play for 20,000.
which is because to get together would cost money and its expensive to live here.
the pinoys have played more money matches in one month than me or any other american plays in 2 years.
believe me if the americans all dropped their lives and huddled up in one town for a year and played money matches nonstop to stay in dead punch .
they would be no fun to tangle with.
matter of a fact the top americans are brutal to beat now and they treat pool myself included like a side hobby.
i dont blame them its because it pays so little compared what costs to live here.
if i lived in phillipines with what i make playing pool i too would think pool is the greatest thing ever and play nonstop and i would make a nice living.
anyway im seriously considering selling everything i own moving to manilla and just playing pool. no golf ,dirt bike ,house ,2000 nut to live ,action everynight etc and see what i can do in the sport.
with the shape this countries in im starting to think it might be the way to go.

I'll tell you another super strong money player that may not be considered on the same level of an Alex or an SVB and that is Hillbilly Bryant from Texas ...

That guy has more heart then the entire state of Texas, stronger than 100 miles of garlic for the cash.

C'mon john, now you and i both know that you're not moving to Manilla. Besides it's a known fact that they don't have the wonderful golf courses..er.. i mean way of life that we have here in the USA!

USA all the way baby!

Go visit John, and then come back refreshed and recharged and ready to snap them all off .....:thumbup2:

It may have used to be like that, but not anymore...:thud:

Walden is solid as a rock. Anyone heard the story about when Gabe won the US Open, went straight to James, gets tortured. I think James' quote was something like, "Go win another one." That dude is strong for the cash. Donny, you mentioned you'd like to play James? He's easy to find. PM me and I'll give you his number.

I don't think anyone can fade the top filipinos, even a Yang or SVB. When I see a player who can go to Manila and play the best players and get out with the money, then I will say he is the greatest. Yang beat Dennis exactly one time. Could he do it again, maybe?

agreed, but then again i dont think there's a filipino player alive that can just play the best players and continually come out on top anyways so that point is invalid since no one can do it. even if alex played there everyday he wouldnt be coming out with all of the money so to base ur definition of the "greatest" on that is somewhat flawed.

yang further solidified his abilities when he beat orcullo again in the guinness tour. obviously that was not gambling per se but he still beat him. in their money match he beat orcullo in a long race by quite a margin too so i dont see how anyone can say hes not one of the best. alex is great no doubt but he's lost to orcullo before. but if yang can beat orcullo he would be competitive against alex so he would have to be one of the best.

I pick Yang.
I wonder if anyone would dare to take on Yang or Wu for cash in Taiwan on those extremely tight tables with under 4 inch pockets?

louis; i guess if you're going to hijack the thread( pasted away players ) which is good, as i don't get "great money players" who are always staked ? the greatest betting their own and playing their very top speed, Marcel Camp and Cornbread Red.
