We just went through a couple of days of some real good pool. A packed house with standing room only the whole time.

Many thanks to all the fans that supported the event and thanks to the owner and staff of the Hard Times, Justin and TAR, Tiger Products, Extreme Focus, my helpers Kent (AZB= KD Cues), Statistician Eddie (AZB= Zirroe), Chris (AZB= Run the century).

What an iron-man display of great playing by Max Eberly. Two days of solid playing against some of the very best of the west. In winning he graciously dedicated the win to Chuck Markules, the original owner of the Hard Times in Bellflower. He passed away a couple of weeks ago in northern California. Chuck will be missed by all the pool world. A true friend of all pool players.

The stands were packed until the final nine went into the pocket. Max defeated Louie Ulrich in a hill hill match after Louie failed to pocket a ball on the break, he was needing one and Max needing two. Max ran out then broke and made a ball on the break and had nice open table in front of him. He did run them but it was no easy task. The tables there are very tight and do not allow you to relax at all.
In the match before he had just finished playing Rafael Martinez, winning 11 to 8. He did well to dodge all the high-powered stuff Martinez was throwing at him. No doubt, Martinez is a monster. Max was tired but like a true champion he held it together.

Max was undefeated in the round robin and won the last two matches in the final four single elimination part. He won a total of 99 games against the very best on very tough tables. We now recognize him as "The best in the West". Congratulations Max.

Every player in the contest played extremely well. One of my favorites was Ernesto Dominguez. He wound up with a record of 1 win and 6 losses in the round robin but lost four hill hill matches, and in the other two he lost he won 8 and 9 games. With a speck of luck he very well could have been 7 and 0.

During the tournament we had a visits from our very own Jay and OMGWTF.

During the players dinner break and before the finals, Chef Anton, the wizard of entertainment, invited the spectators to gather around a pool table and dazzled them with bit of humor and magic. All in all a good time was had by everyone, including myself.

I sweated quite a bit of it on TAR, and what a great job they did. Almost made me wish I had stayed down in LA a week more after the Hollywood Tournament but I had to get home. It was good to see you again Frank, lets keep showing these youngsters we're not over the hill yet. John Henderson

I watched bits and pieces of it on the TAR video.

The live chat on TAR reminded me of hanging out with other pool folk at a pool tournament, the side conversations, the talk about cues, et cetera. It was fun, for the most part.

I enjoyed listening to the commentary. JCIN has an EXCELLENT broadcast voice. If he ever leaves TAR, he should have a good future in broadcasting, radio or TV. I know voices well since I type the words spoken for my job.

The rapport between Jay Helfert and OMGWTF (Melinda) was nice. I enjoyed hearing their comments about the various players and the goings-on in California. They had a chemistry going, kind of like Howard Stern and Robin Quivers, but it was all clean fun. :p

Without sponsors and the efforts of folks like Corey and the others who made this event a reality, pool would be dull.

California is looking more and more to me like it's a pool happening kind of place. They have some pretty wonderful pool rooms out there, the way I heard them descirbed on the TAR broadcast.

All in all, great show. Congrats to Max Eberle! One thing to remember, though, Max used to hail from the East Coast, D.C. to be exact. :grin-square:

I went down for a while on two days. While work got in my way of attending as much as I would have liked I had a great time.

The event seemed to be running very smooth and all the way down to the last round the finals was still undecided.

My hats off to all the players for playing hard. Ernesto almost threw a wrench in the system when at 0-6 he knocked off Ulrich opening the door for others to play their way into the finals.

The Tar one man wrecking crew was there with a sweet setup. It actually didnt interfere with the room or seating very much.

Thanks to all that put it on and their hard work.

Hopefully more pool will make its way to SoCal.
