Best player in Alabama?

Robert Hall

He still lives in Huntsville . . . he just played in the APA nationals 9 ball . . . finished 5th I believe but he's won it twice before. Good money player as well . . . I've watched him play some pretty stout talent and come out ahead.

No Stick, he moved away a few years ago, otherwise, he would probably get the nod. Merry Christmas, and I hope Santa brings you a long iron game:wink:

I thought Mike Laney was living in Chattanooga now.

That is what I heard. Thank God, cause I would hate to see him ruin our state's rep as being weak when it comes to pool:)

cant think of his name ,but he won amature champinship not long ago, looks like mike segile:confused:    ????

The guy your talking about is David Rowell by far not the best maybe top 10.

There was a young player in Alabama about ten years ago. I think they called him Little John. Played real good, great break. Is he still around?

I don't know if Laney is living in Chattanooga yet (I suspect he is, though), but he is working as the General Manager now at Diamond Billiard Club there.

I heard that Hennessee recently moved to Huntsville. If so, he would have to get strong consideration as the best in Alabama.

Maybe the tournament in Huntsville this weekend will help clear things up, since Hall, Hennessee, McAbee, Tater, Muttley, and others will probably be in attendance.

Maybe someone can report back on Sunday and let us know.

Mike

I think you are thinking of John Macias(sp?). From MS. I might get up to the tourney this weekend, but a 4 hour ride each way for short sets on the barbox might be a bit off a stretch. If Henny moved to AL then this argument is over, unless you wish to discuss who #1 is, lol.

Roadman has moved.
Laney is in Tennessee.

Hennessee is now in AL (I forgot earlier) so he definitely gets the nod.

David Rowell is the guy who looks like Mike Sigel and if anyone wants to list the 10 guys better than him in AL, we can bet on at least 3 of them for most likely good money.

For the record, I didn't say that, but Henny moving here sure took the wind out of this discussion, lol.

I think I just heard Judge Judy slam the gavel.

yup, I guess based on them playing in La not long ago, Scotty may be the 2nd best now.(but he will always be my favorite to drink with, lol)

On a side note, with Laney and Justin leaving, I may have just crept into the top 50 or so.................;)

I have to comment about Mike Laney. This guy ranks right up there with all southern gamblers. He is an absolute gentleman. He likes to put his money in action other than just when he is stealing. If he loses, he shakes hands and pays off. I count Mike Laney as a friend and would doubt anyone here could say one negative thing about him. Mike if you are reading ... I don't have your new address; give me a call
And if anyone sees T.O. tell him to call me also.

Merry Christmas all.

I agree. Mike is truly a class act. I have come out both ways gambling against his cash, and he is a gentleman either way. Wish everyone was like that:p

As a teenager, 35 years ago, I played a guy in Foley, Alabama. He certainly wasn't the best player in the state, but that day he was good enough to beat me.

We had gone down to Gulf Shores for spring break and I had a monster hangover. Played this guy on the fastest 'cloth' ever. I remember paying another fellow 25 cents per game to rack. That day also had the bluest sky I've ever seen.

Lost a little money in Foley, but made it back and then some at the Crossroads (?) tavern on the Florida/Alabama state line. The local guys there showed us their KKK cards. It was a different time in America.

Was the bar called the Flora-Bama? The building itself is divided by the Alabama/Florida state line.

I am was born and raised very close to Foley, but I'm 37 yrs old. So, I wouldn't know who your hustler was/is.

if the Monster john you are talking about is the One pocket speacialist, i believe he is from florida somewhere. Not positive but i think thats what he was claiming at last years derby
