Best pool ball set for home.

Finally getting a table set up at the house, came with a cheap set of balls. Trying to get some feedback on what people have had the best luck with for a home table.

How much difference is there between the different Aramith balls. I see the standards are about 100, the premiums are 160, and then the tournament and super pros are 270-350. I like the way the Brunswick centennials look, but are they worth 400? Cyclops seemed okay when have used them on the diamonds at the local pool hall. Any other brands to consider?

Thanks for the opinions and feedback.

Cheap balls cost you more due re-clothing table(cheap balls burn cloth fast) more often and they get bad shape pretty fast anyways. Dont save money on balls.
Less fun and not really save anything. Same goes for cloth. One can save 200-300 with bad balls and cloth but why?

Even used super pros are 1000% better choice than premium..
just my 2 cents(table mechanic).

Aramith (including centennials) and cyclop are the only brands to look at. The cheapest premium ball will be the cyclop. It stays clean forever.

some guys like Cyclop balls (Asian made), I personally won't buy another set of them because, imo, they are low to moderate quality and *never* gonna be as good as Aramith balls that are made in Belgium.

Aramith Super Pros are the exact same balls as Centennials except for the visible aesthetics, the main one being the dart design feature on each side of the numbers. btw, you should be able to find better pricing on the Centennial set that you quoted ($400) but do be sure to deal with reliable authorized sellers - plenty of counterfeits out there.

It all depends how particular you are, if you have a budget, and where you are with your game.

Yhe Aramith Premium set would do nicely for many home situations but the Super Pros and Cents are genuinely better playing and feeling balls. I have a set of each the Cents and Super Pros and really like them a lot.

I also have a set of Duramith Tournament balls and these are what get the most play at my house. These are another absolutely great playing set.

Be warned though, if you get either Super Pros, Cents or Duramiths, you won't be able to blame the balls for any more misses.

good luck,

Check around in your area you might find a Pool hall doing upgrades that would sell you a used set at a good price while remodeling.

If you look around you can find a deal on a set of used super pros also. I picked mine up for 100 off Facebook. I plan on saving up for a new set though.

I got a home table a few years ago. It came with a cheap set of nylon balls. I purchased a set of Aramith Premiums, which have served me well. I also have a set of Cyclop Zeus, but they are for taking to the poolhall. The Aramith Premiums look a lot better than the Aramith Premiers. Depends on how often you intend to use them. If you intend on playing a lot, I say get the Cyclop Zeus, Aramith Duramith or Brunswick Centennials.

If you want bang for your buck, get the cyclop. When I first got my table I bought a skittles Cyclop set because I couldn't afford the set I really wanted, the centennials. I recently sold my Cyclop set after I found a good deal on some centennials, and have regretted it ever since. The Cyclop were easier to see, stayed way cleaner, and contrary to internet legend, had way fewer skids.

I'll agree with the specific suggestions made thus far and want to add:
Buy new. shiny, smooth, perfect...and you know you are getting what you think you bought too.

Aramith Super Pros are without a question the best buy, IMO. Centennials are my favourite set as far as aestetics. Maybe you can get some lightly used one for cheap? As others have said, do not buy cheaply made ball sets for regular play. The Tournament sets are said to be better, but going from one to the other doesn't seem to create any different ball reaction.

I've played extensively with Cyclop now, and they are ok. All the tournaments around here use Aramith, and the Cyclop balls play just differently enough that it can cause problems. Therefore I now only play with Aramith. If the opposite is true where you live, then I think you may safely go with the Cyclop balls. In the beginning these balls had huge issues with rolling off etc. I havent' been able to detect any problems with the sets I have personally played with, or have watched being used on youtube in the recent years, so that problem has been taken care of. If anything they seem to roll longer than Aramith balls. The cueball plays a little heavy to my taste, but opinions vary on the subject.

The Cyclop Hyperion balls can be purchased for less than $300 all day long. The new Aramith Durimith tournament balls can be found for less than $350. Both ball sets use the newest phenolic resin and stay cleaner than the other versions. You can’t go wrong with either ball set so pick one. I bought the Tournament set but might also get the Hyperion just so I can compare for myself.
