You are wrong.

Entertainment value not only makes the tapes easier to watch; it increases the amount of info that will be absorbed. The very best instructors/teachers always make things entertaining for the students. JMO.

People will say that they don't care; but show them one of those ultra-dry videos by Don Feeney and they will change their tune....very difficult to sit through without falling asleep. In addition, if the video is decent AND entertaining, then THAT will be the video that they will recommend to others.

I wholeheartedly agree. There's just something about the way Bert Kinisters comments, the way he spoke, and so on, that got me to say to myself when lining up a toughie, "Come on, pot that sucker for ole Uncle Bert... you can do it, I know you can!" lol

I would like to know what you think would make the video valuable from an instructional viewpoint and desirable from an entertainment perspective. Please be specific about what you think would make a video valuable and desirable.

I would like to see a Banking video from Willie Joplin and a kicking video from Allison Fisher.

Actually, I posted those topics as I think they can be most useful to a wide range of intermediate players, not that I am seeking the answers to those questions.

However, the one about developing a world class stroke may not exactly be something that can be taught on tape, a world class instructor might be needed on a one-to-one basis for that, to make corrections to a particular person's setup and body shape.

It sounds like JoeyA has something really good up his sleeve...

Hello again, I think a world class stroke can be learned by anyone. It just take a lot of understanding of what really goes on with your stroke. As most of you know i have steady it for years and it is a way to get a good stroke fairly quick. Although a world class stroke will not make you a world class player. I think i have as good of a stroke as anyone out there but for other things wrong with my body my game will only go so far. I might play like God for a few games but if my back starts bothering me it looks like i have never played before. My best was a break and run of 7 racks of 9 ball on a big table and 6 racks of 8 ball on a bar box. O well life goes on and i just try to help anyone out here i can. that's my goal no "To help others get better" and just enjoy the game when time lets me.

Robert Byrnes videos 1,2,and 5. Show you what the cue ball is doing after contacting the object ball. He very clearly shows the concept of the tangent line and how to use it and alter to get position. I believe videos 3 and 4 are mostly trick shots. His videos are very well made. If you want to learn about position play I believe his videos will help.

I like how John Schmidt commentated his 245. I think you should play a ton of racks and talk yourself through it. That's the best instruction. Stance, grip, etc... all of that is beat up. It's tough to teach shot selection - that would be awesome.

There are so many great instructional videos out there covering basics to advanced techniques. I think what be unique is a type of practice schedule that would be similar in style for training like any other sport. Each day would require a specific routine with allowances for trouble shots.

For a system of practice what about the PAT program. I downloaded the free sample of the program. It is discussed in one of the recent posts. You can take any instructional book or video and make your own routine. Write down which drills you want to do. You can use an excel spreadsheet page. Write the date you practiced the drill and how many times you were successful. For a way to develop a consistent reliable stroke the "mother drills" from the pool school run by Randyg and Scott Lee are excellent.
