I say Pechauer and I am a dealer. If you can tell me better, I would consider picking up that line. Opinions appreciated.

It is all a matter of taste really. I've never cared for Pechauers shafts and I think their cues are just to stiff overall. They are nice quality though. I prefer all of the below cues over Pechauer for pure playability. :
Joss is a very good cue IMHO. Really hard hit, nice playing cue.
Viking: The ones under 300 aren't particularly exciting, but they have a lot of different shaft options. They play differently than Joss, but pretty well.
When it comes to great cues just over 200 dollars, I'd always recommend a McDermott of this kind. It's got a beautiful balance, nice woods, nice finish, decent shaft (not especially ld, but ok, especially in 12,5 diameter.) The only thing that's crap about this cue is the Everest tip. McDermott does something wrong with them I think. They play horribly out of the box. Make a deal for your customers to get a Kamui or anything else instead and you have a winner.

You want only playability and nothing else matters: Players HXT. Dirt cheap, ld, kamui tips etc.

No personal experience

I honest have never shot with a Joss so I have no opinion. Since I'm in Wisconsin and we have so many great companies here I have not explored a lot of other "production" builders. We are still looking to support any custom builders who are interested in our services, but with Schon, Jacoby, Viking, and Pechauer already in our stable I don't know that we would pick up another production line unless they were overwhelmingly Reccomended. OB is the one we may be considering. Ty for your input, we need it to improve on our ability to please our clients.

bahaha I was going to suggest Pechauer because that's what I got for a little over 300 and its the best I could find after testing every product. What about SW Cue? Adam cues? Poison Cues? Players cues? Lacasi cues? PureX cues? Poison's aren't to bad and their most expensive cue is around 300 I believe.

Nothing wrong w your list. Pechauer reigns IMO

You list several good "really really" "production" cues. Pechauer originally was a custom builder who became very successful and make every part of their cues. I do feel Viking with the Vikore shaft offers a lot of value. Purely based on the number of retailers for the rest of the foreign made cues you mention I don't think we can really help a client. Also McDermott, another Wi cue manufacturer is very well represented in the market and I do not feel we can add value to our clients needs. If you are near Wis you can go direct to their showroom and get a hell of a deal.

If he is planning on selling cues I'd not go for Poison. Their joints are just too fragile and at a low pricepoint you will sell a lot to bangers...Not good. They are very good cues as far as playability so I'd recommend them to a careful player. Adam cues: My first cue was an Adam. It is solid but the hit is dead. All other Adam cues I've ever tried has the same dead hit. Lucasis used to be a good deal, but since the prices went way up there are many cues that are better value for money. It is good to be able to use a normal predator shaft (uni-lock) but still, there are much better deals to be had.

Please elaborate?

What builders do you feel make the best $300 cue? THx for your input. Tom

Rat

Rat cues start at 330 and are well worth the price. I've owned both
Rat and Pechauer. I liked the Rat better, but it is over the 300 mark.

RAT is a great deal from what I hear!!

Am I wrong to consider Ryan a custom builder? He is on my list of custom builders I want to try.

Well, you said you don't want to sell McDermott, so in that case I'd say Joss, or Players if you want a cheaper cue. Fury is also an OK cue. Not spectacular in any way, but solid and good.

I'm a Viking dealer!

Well, you said you don't want to sell Viking or McDermott, so in that case I'd say Joss.

We are a Viking dealer, McDermott is very well represented in our area and we cannot carry everything if we really want to cater to our clients. If we have a client who wants a McDermott we can get them but we can only maintain so many personal business relationships with manufacturers. Prime example would be Schon, John and Evan are a text away, how many others can say that?

posted incorrectly in a different thread, but the feeling is the same

on a suggestion from Bill Yerd, http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=279765 i tried a HXT4 - it cost about $100 at that time. I was in sheer amazement - I couldn't believe a cue at that price could be soooooo good.

after that i bought another with the thin 11.75 shaft and a break/jump.

to reflect on some of the many cues i have such as southwest and others, what i consider great cues, i have to admit that these Players HXT's are amazing cues

These do not have the intrinsic artful work of a Hercek, or Szamboti but for the money imho they are Great Cues!

imo, for a small outlay, you can have a Great cue...

all the best,
smokey

If we can get good playing $100 cues into the hands of new players, can you imagine how much the game could grow. Hell if room owners and bars would just have decent house cues more people would enjoy the game and possibly buy "their own" cue. How many people get free bowling balls when they join a league and end up bowling for the next 20 years. Just saying, they are building a client base.
