Beware IPT Supporters

I will trust the points you made about how smoking could possibly help in some cases.

IUTBRich,
Don't trust the points. They are false, based on either flawed studies, or statistics taken out of context. To think that cigarettes are going to help your health is foolish. Your chances of making it to age 70 as a lifelong smoker are about 10%, your chances of making it to age 60 about 50/50 - where exactly does this great benefit come in???

Colin probably does not realize that most (around 70%) of the info in medical journals is wrong - they are preliminary studies, retrospective studies, poorly designed studies - or just good studies whose results are inappropriately extrapolated - they are the very appropriate first step in the scientific process - find an association, report in the journal, then later try to find if the associated findings are cause and effect (usually NOT). None of the info he cites is reliable in any way. Many of the results he cited are based on the fact that the cigarette smokers don't live long enough to develop as many of these problems as the rest of the population. Their age adjusted risk is actually extremely high in the case of colon cancer. Realize that the cigarette advocates have promulgated this type of pseudo-science for a long time, not Colin's fault.

I do however, support anyone's right to smoke (its just my job to advise them not to). I think the state governments and the federal government's attacks on the cigarette industry are TOTALLY unconstitutional. A stiff warning on the package should be sufficient; false claims and advertising should be punished. People enjoy auto racing, bungee jumping, hang gliding, swimming with sharks, base jumping, and motorcycle riding. Should we outlaw all of these things? Perhaps we just need to outlaw the politicians and lawyers. What a mess.

Hi Willy,
It's a good idea not to trust any information without knowing all the details.

However, by your logic it would seem that any studies that advocate benefits to smoking must be propoganda of the pro-cigarette lobbyists.

I don't have the time for detailed research on all those claims now, and this is not the place for an extensive rebuttal.

I am with you (mostly) on your final paragraph :-)

I don't remember what it requires in sales to get on the NY best sellers list but selling through informational it would be pretty easy. I doubt there are many books on there where the people ask for their money back. I know we selfishly want to see pool prosper but lets not be naive as to what kind of guy this is. He represents the worst in a human being. One who prays on the weak and desperate. Read some of the reviews of his book. They range from Trash to worthless. He is not a nice man and I am sorry to see pool being associated with him. Any publicity pool may get as a result of this I am sure will be overshadowed by his reputation. I can't imagine a legitimate sponsor even remotely wanting to have their name associated with him. In fact his association with pool again represents a man telling desperate people, (Poor Pool players) What they want to hear.
See some reviews below

If it were so easy, don't you think that more people would be making millions doing it?

They do, you see them on late light TV every night. Lose weight, make money, get muscles although they sell products, DVD's, tapes and so on. What he sells in his latest venture is false hope to sadly desperate people. I am not trying to be negative but don't anyone have any illusions as to what this guy is. He is as bad a piece of scum as you will ever run into.

Is this any different then have a pool tour sponsored by Camel cigarettes?
telling people that the doctors cant cure your cancer and their meds dont work, but buy my book for 30 bucks and it will cure your cancer, adhd, diabetes, and whatever else just seems a little wrong in my book. other then that 5 mins i saw him on tv peddling that book i dont know anything about him. i sure hope he helps pool out i would love to see these pros get what they deserve. however, whenever i see/think of him though i wont help but think of him and his bogus claims.

Maybe those of us that are interested in pool having a lot of money in the prize funds and are willing to put up the $899, just do it. And for the rest of you that are so against the idea of maybe this being for real, and whether or not your greedy little hands can benifit from it, stay the fuck out of it. Pretty simple! The players are excited about this, why put it down before it even gets started? If the guy, Kevin T., wants to put his money into pool and making something happen for the deserving players, then what do you naysayers have to lose? This shit makes me sick. If the guy burns every single person that puts up the $899 membership fee, how much is he going to make? 100, 200, 300 thousand? Who cares? Oh, I know who cares, all you assholes that will get to say, " I told you so." But, if this thing works, you same assholes will find something else to cry about but you'll be on the I.P.T. bandwagon, for sure............................Yeah, I'm venting, fuck ya. Email me, pm me, hell, call me if you got my number, or, even better yet, come to Kingman and kick my ass for speaking my mind. I'm just sick of all the B.S. when a good idea comes along and someone wants to put money INTO the pockets of players, instead of TAKING it away from them. I know I'll never make a dime off of it, but that's okay. I may get to play in a tournament with a chance at winning $300,000 for 1st place, instead of sitting at home saying to myself, "Even if I won that tournament, it wouldn't have covered the nut."

Great post man! I've been wanting to tell them to shut the f*** up...there is no way what Trudeau is doing could be bad for pool, whether he is crooked or not, he is doing something for pool, WHICH NOBODY ELSE CAN. Damn crybabies, let the real players decide.

I suggest you read "The Body Electric" by Robert O. Becker and Gary Selden, published in 1985 by William Morrow and Co. This book which is unfortunately still on the cutting edge of medical science brings to light the same claims made by Kevin Trudeau, and many others. It is very difficult to get funding for scientific research that does not lead to patentable drugs (simple chemical compounds). Our tax dollars are given away by the millions to pay for research done at colleges and universities while the drug companies get the patents and the money. This book describes an unbelievable area of research that is leading (now, finally) to regeneration of basic tissues of the body (muscles, bone, and nerves) which we were told for decades was totally impossible. It is hard to get through, but is an eye opener as to why we have not the best medical system in the world, but actually rank near 20th in the world while we spend by far the most money. The quacks are the ones propogating our corrupt system.

Wait and see..

There are people at all levels of business and goverment that have shown questionable character and buisiness dealings...all people with $$$ and/or power didn't get that way without exploiting somebody or something. I say lets wait and see how he carries this off. I don't see any other organization stepping up and valuing the players enough to allow them, as Professionals, to truly 'make a living', playing pool. This organization, if successful will do that. Hell, Tiger just won 1.3 MILLION dollars for 4 days of golf, and this doesn't include his sponsorships. Maybe 'one day', is on the horizen for Pro Pool Players.

I mean I wonder how many AZB'rs would qualify for these events anyway? Are there a majority of Regional Tour Champions here? I know I'm a League and weekend Local Tourny player. I would never have to worry about KT taking any money from me. He just might create the most exciting and lucrative pool playing environment ever in US Billiards.

Lets wait and see~

Ok. We shouldn't turn this thread into another "drug" thread. (snip)

It seems the "uppers" thread got some people to do rational thinking instead of emotional reacting. I'm glad for that.

Maybe this won't be a "drugs" thread, but at least let's try to make it a rational discussion of the issue. Some (not you personally, btw) would rather make it a shouting match about who is an idiot and who should or should not discuss it, as if this isn't a forum for debate, but a forum for agreeing with closed-minded individuals.

Question: What if Kevin T. is right and his accusers are wrong?

Next question: How would one know?

ChefJeff, you make an excellent post. We are all so passionate about the IPT, either for or against it, that we have unleashed that energy onto our fellow posters. There is no need for us to threaten, curse, abuse, etc., the people who don't agree with us. Whichever side you are on, please respect the other side.

The IPT for real?

I, for one, am glad to see the results and details of the Sigel-Jones IPT match on the AZ home page....It seems to validate somewhat that the IPT Tour is definitely on its way.....I also want to mention that those naysayers who resort to name-calling and verbal abuse because people don't agree with them are showing their true intelligence and lack of class...

Well, here's my take on the IPT. You can be sure that tongues are wagging about this multi-million-dollar tour consisting of 8-ball on slow cloth. And let's be real about this. Kevin Trudeau has announced that he is adding monies to the tournaments which will end up having a first-place prize purse of $200,000 to $300,000.

Now, when I think about it, here's a man who is a multi-millionaire and is creating a tour which will provide opportunities to pool players to make decent monies. NEVER BEFORE, has there been a tournament with these kinds of monies.

I do not believe Kevin Trudeau is trying to make a quick buck by snatching $899 from pool players for lifetime membership in the IPT to fatten his pocket book. There is no money in pool as it currently exists today. We all know that. Do you think that this guy is trying to gnaw on a pool bone with not much meat on it to make a profit? I sure don't. He's taking a gamble and hoping that by having a tour of this size, it will catch on and grow in popularity. Any profits he could realize will only come in due time and well after the fact.

I've read about a lot of public figures who are scrutinized in the press. Yet, they have done great things in the eyes of the public. Even the Presidents of the United States are bashed about in the media, Clinton saying he never had sex with that woman, Bush Junior partying in college with alcohol and other substances. Here's a guy who's willing to shell out his own monies which well exceed anything he will get from pool players' memberships and entry fees. Let's give it a chance. Don't bury this baby before it is even born yet. JMHO, FWIW.

I would not be so quick to say all that. As recently as last September from what I read he had to pay a $2,000,000. fine and all he came up with was $500,000 in cash and they took his luxury car and he had to turn over residential property located in Ojai, California to pay the fine. In the event that the court finds that Trudeau or his companies misrepresented their financial condition, the order would require Trudeau to pay $20,000,000 pursuant to an avalanche clause. On the one hand he is broke and on the other he has money to give away. He appears to be so incumbered at this point I don't know what he is doing with this pool thing. I believe it is a farce that is not going anywhere being sold to wishful thinking people. He certainly picked the right audience but I don't at this point see his angle other then to BS people. I sincerely hope you will be saying I told you so next year at this time but I would not bet on it.

Me too Dog! Yes his past isnt exactly clean, but who cares. I think anyone that calls themselves a fan of pool should do anything they can to support the IPT and give it the best chance to make it.

You hope the league fails so that your own personal opinion wins out and that we honor you for your all wise prognostications?

Most of us are just guessing, based on the info we have, and it looks better and better, though some of your points re KT's financial situation do not sound so great.

Anyway, go to Tradesports.com and set up a market. I'll put a few $$ on it if you want to set up a fair proposition bet.

I dont know if he is loaded or not. But the above statement doesnt prove anything. Didnt Trump file BK several times? I dont think trump is hurting for money.

Kevin wouldnt be the first person in business to have money that the government hasnt been able to get to. Im not saying its right or wrong. Just pointing out that he may not be hurting as much as the above post may make it seem.

Yeah Woody is right money is not an issue with this guy at all. You have to look at these guys a little different then the average guy sad but true. The Donald goes bankrupt pays pennies on the dollar to people he owes and still during all this lives like a king flys around in his helicopter, jet, goes everywhere in a limo, keeps his penthouse with everything plated in gold and spends millions on a wedding. Go figure, the average joe on the street could never get away with that, but moguls and corporations get away with it all the time, when they owe the government or other people they cry poor mouth and still live like kings with plenty of money. I don't know how they do it, but it must be nice to have lawyers that know all the ins and outs:D

Sadly It's the corporate way of today.

So in short, he has a grundle, and his skill in selling is just what we need, I like the fact that he has a real good public relations firm working for him, has anyone promoting pool ever had a good public relations firm on the payroll or a top production company like Smith & Co. with inside access to Hollywood?

When you try to make things happen, there is always risk, and it's not easy but the larger the risk the greater the reward, Win lose or draw, it's going to be a blast!
