Beware of ebay ID bigjohn1211 aka AZB member Bigjohn

I just had a cue delivered from John on 8/01...I rolled the cue and found the nose of the cue had a roll.....I also weighed the shafts and they came in @ 3.6 oz.....John told me they were 4.0 oz....I emailed John with my findings and tell him I want to return the cue, and John replies that the cue was sold to me AS-IS no return..... John's AS-IS no return policy was not disclosed in his ebay auction nor was it disclosed verbally when we talked on the phone.....at this point I knew I was in for a battle...after countless emails they agree to look at the cue, but I was warned that if the warp was let me quote them "within tolerance" that the cue would be shipped back immediately....it was obvious to me that the warp was up to their interpretation..shafts that have minor rolls are "within tolerance", but a cue butt?? I've never heard of such a thing either a butt is warped or it's not warped....imo..it was also obvious to me that they were setting me up for a failure and I emailed them back stating that "within tolerance" wasn't going to work for me. and the shafts being off 4/10 oz was enough to warrant a refund..after a few more emails they told me I was stuck with the cue..Here is a link to the video of the warped nose, the ebay auction, and a few photos of a postal scale, and my scale....when you read the ebay auction it sounds like a new cue....

Sorry about your troubles.Seems like you purchased this outside of ebay because the link to the auction says it was ended and no buyer. Seems like there is just too much of this going on now. Between the barkcin... thread and now this thread I cant believe how bad things are getting. Both had excellent feedback. I know I have no interest in aquiring any cues anymore unless there at a show....this is great for joe v.,don s. and salazar because even though they charge a little more you get what you pay for:D
Its just terrible....

This is to bad. There is to much of this going on lately. I have had run ins with this same guy he has always busted my balls on my prices and when I come down to basically a wholesale price he has never made a purchase.

Who sold you this cue...Stevie Wonder? I would be very p**sed off. Good luck with this Dale.

Actually John ended the auction early and sent me a paypal invoice

you should reverse those charges through Paypal.

Mason I tried, but they could'nt do it, but paypal did open a claim....Mason this is the cue you started a thread about. I told you I passed on it because the shafts weighed 3.4 oz.....well John emailed me back telling me his scale was off and he just weighed them at the post office and they actually weigh 4.0 oz... so I bought it.....stupid me....

FYI......This person is a AZB member and goes by the name of Bigjohn

Charlie, I appreciate the kind words, but it's a sad state of affairs. I cannot believe what I am reading...

JV(---knows what it's like to almost get the "shaft"...

Exactley! The deal was done outside of ebay. Anytime a auction is ended early ebay is no longer involved unless you bid on the item and there is a option to end the auction early and sell to the high bidder that the seller can choose ,which this auction was not possiple. I would have probaly done it also judging from his feedback but ebay would not cover me if something happen(like there a big help anyway right:eek: ). But not anymore:(
He even states it was straight in his auction.....must have happen when it was shipped fedex like tate's palmer:eek: ..Like I said, just too much of this going on

Dale,

Do you have access to a lathe? If you do spin the butt and/or put a shaft on the butt and roll the cue off the (short rail to short rail) table.

Even if the compound taper butt proves to be "straight" the shaft weight issue would still be a deal breaker for me. Shafts without inserts that weigh 3.6 oz are "average" in weight but a far cry from 4oz.

Sorry for your aggrevation and best of luck coming to a resolution.

cuedoctor......why are you busting my B@!!$... ...I have zero beef with ebay...I have not tried to open a claim with ebay....I fully understand that I have zero recourse with ebay.....I opened a claim with paypal because I used them for payment...its worth a shot..right??? The only reason I put the ebay link up is to show his description of the cue (excellent to new condition ), and the fact that he didn't state a AS-IS NO RETURN POLICY....

It would seem to me that this is a scam that folks have figured out. List an item on Ebay with a high BIN, take offers, etc that you don't accept, contact buyers and offer a sale off Ebat, sell the item. That way, if you actually get the item, the person stiffs Ebay for the final value fees and if you are not satisfied, there is no recourse.

I would imagine that Ebay would only take action if this was reported and they searched the person's sales record for items ended early by the same seller. If they found a pattern, they would probably suspend the account.

Adam,

I have access to a lathe, but if I decide to sell or trade this cue down the road I don't want to deal with issues with a potential buyer....I've had 2 brand new Bluegrass cues in the past and understand Richards taper, but those cues didn't roll off, and your right the shafts are enough to be a deal breaker, but the seller doesn't see it that way....
Thanks for your support

he probably just doesn't like hearing you restate the obvious cuedoctor.i am sure it is a little unnerving to hear you talk about,"exactly, anytime an auction is ended early, blah, blah, blah".he just got burned he doesn't want to hear what his mistake was from you when he already knows about Ebay's policy.anyway Snowmon,if you fund Paypal through a credit card then you definitely can chargeback the credit card.don't go through Paypal though,go through your bank.even if it was a checking account only account,go to your bamk anyway and try to reverse them.you will be surprised what your bank will do for you if you are a long time or good customer.Paypal on the other hand cares nothing about you or your problems.they are only there for the money.try it tomorrow, you might be pleasantly surprised.
