Who likes to play on what..If there was only one what would you pick.

When I was younger, my roomates and I bought a 10ft snooker table and had the pockets converted. We put it in the living room of a house we rented. Those pockets were so small. If you hit the rail at all, the ball would fly off the table. We practiced everyday for 4-6 hours for about eight months. We had Jersey Red over twice a week for one hole lessons and JJ was over all the time too. After that practice regimen, well lets just say, we could dab it pretty sporty. Because if this, I prefer any bigger table over a smaller one. Safties play a bigger part during the game, every run out is truly earned, distance means something and the better player usually wins.

i prefer 9 foot tables. all three of the league's i'm in are shot on 9 footers, i practice on 9 footers. you have alot more room to work with, not only that, but when you have to shoot playoff's or anything like that for league, there usually on barboxes. so when we go from the 9's to the 7's, we clean up due to the practice we play on 9's. now if i were to gamble, i would prefer 8's. something to think about!

Why would you prefer to gamble on an 8 footer? i prefer 9 foot tables and tight pockets if i'm playing for anything worth playing for

i'd like to add that there's good things to be said about barbox play. i've met some kicka$$ barbox players when i played in a league last year.

if i were to buy a barbox though it'd have to be one of the diamond barboxes. That's a barbox worth having. they're really good tables and you still have to play reasonably good shape to get out on them

I must have read more into this question than what was intended. If there were only 9'ers there would be many less places to play. Considering that alone, if there could only be one type table I would choose barbox.

If you are asking what would I choose to play on if there were both options, it would be the 9'.

It is too early for me to be thinkin' anyway.

has it always been that way or is it because you're getting older?
i've noticed a lot of the older players like to play on the barbox

tripple shimmed? what would that make the pockets measure? i actually thought you were going to say something like because 8 foot tables are mostly in peoples homes and not pool rooms. that way table time/room closing could be avoided

Just Curious

I always find this a curious argument. I prefer to play on 8' (What I have at the house) simply because it's the middle of the pack.

Big enough to "move around", not so large I need my glasses for corner to corner shots.

I don't gamble much and if I do, I try to get barbox action. I've seen plenty of decent 9 foot players struggle on a box when they have to navigate the smaller area.

My feeling is: If you're good....size don't matter

i've seen more racks won on sheer luck on the barbox. the smaller table, bigger pockets, and shorter slate shelf make firing balls in too easy. it really exaggerates peoples fire power.

a guy that could be spotted the 7/8 on a 9 foot table could probably play the guy that could normally spot him even on a barbox

And?

And....what's wrong with that?

I owed a poolroom on Long Island in NY. The room had 8 9-footers and 1 billiard table. In the 8 years I had the room I played 90% on those tables and 10% on bar boxes. After I sold the room I played 75% on bar boxes and 25% on nines. I could make pretty good money in bars and was not quite good enough on nines to match up with good players where the big money was. I bar hopped for years. Gotta keep moving though. Johnnyt

Hmmmm.... this is tough. I cut my teeth on the big track but now there really isn't many around where I'm at. I also know most bar owners don't have the room and can't afford 9' tables. Most of the tourneys I play are on the bar box and I think they're less itimidating to the masses. The 7 foot Diamonds are a sweet table but so are the 9 footers. Sorry I love pool, like 'em both, so I remain undecided and can't vote.

Prefer the 9 footers, but I would take quality equipment over size any day......better to play on a nice, level 7 footer with good felt and solid rails....than play on a 9 footer that isn't level and is worn out.....
