Bigger, Stronger Break!

I'm trying to improve my break and decided to post on here to see if we can't "pool" our resources and see if anyone can help me get a bigger and better break.
I was also wondering if I should even be working on my breaks yet. I've only been playing pool for 1.5 years and "I can make a ball or two" but am always looking to improve my game. Any suggestions on the next step?
Bigger is not necessarily better.

My first suggestion is to make sure the rack is tight. A loose rack (even just 1 or 2 loose balls) will make your break look weak.

Lastly, your break will improve with practice, just like any other part of your game. Just give it time. When you are losing tournaments or vast sums of cash because you can't break at a competitive level, get a coach.

Blackjack- In the article breaking to win, it appears that you are breaking from Diamond to Diamond.

I will try and explain a little better. It looks as though you are breaking through the first diamond on the long rail straight throught the last diamond on the short rail. Is this correct or is it just how the diagram makes it look?

thanks

Some more articles for you.....

Timothy White (the Australian Oyster) had a good article on the break on his web site but it's not there anymore.... BUT you can read it here:

In May 2003 BD magazine had an article on how Francisco Bustamante breaks, I found a scan of it on the net but it's not there either... SO I uploaded the copy I have for your viewing pleasure...
You can download it from here:

Enjoy :D

That is basically what I am saying, although I don't ever explain it like that. I am referring to the direction you want to send the cue ball, like in the diagram below.

CueTable Help

This is a controlled break, either trying to play the one in the side or to have it bank long while playing the cue ball in the center of the table. This break has multiple variations - play with a little until you find the speed that works for you.

We now know you have a nice break, and the girl in your avatar has a nice rack....:D

Here's a fun fact: Both my break and that rack are real.

Joe Tucker's Racking Secrets, book and/or DVD. The book improved my break probably 40%. I don't yet have the DVD.

I try to get my body moving forward just before I begin my stroke to get more power. I'm just a ball banger but that's what I do. It takes a little practice to get it right.

Man, you sound just like me about 4-5 years ago. I always wanted to learn the cool things in pool; like big breaks, 3 rail kicks, banks, and multi rail posistion.

So here is a word to the wise. I will write this CAPS to emphasize my point.

LEARN TO MAKE THE BALLS. IF YOUR NOT A 75% RUN OUT PLAYER THEN WHY DO YOU WANT TO OPEN THE RACK FOR AN OPPONANT THAT MAY BE. YOU ARE AT AN ADVANTAGE TO USE THE PERCENTAGES AND DUCK AND COVER. A GOOD SAFETY IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF AND CAN SOMETIMES JUST AS DIFFICULT AS A SHOT BUT WITH BIGGER RESULTS. SO LEARN TO RUN THE BALLS BEFORE YOU OPEN THE RACK FOR YOUR OPPONANT.
A WELL EXECUTED BREAK WILL POCKET AT LEAST ONE BALL; ALL YOU NEED TO STAY AT THE TABLE.

Sorry didn't mean to yell I just love this sport and don't want to see someone else make the same mistakes i did. OMG I sounded just like my mom there.....Scary!

LOL. Thats very sound advice. I'll take it to heart. I'm probably only able to run out about 45 of the time when I'm in stroke so I think I will go to the pool hall now and practice some safeties!!!
