Just curious the biggest money game that you ever played with your own money?

I am no gambler, just play cheap set $10-20 to simulate pressure situation :)

About 10 years ago on holiday I played a set of English 8 ball for 750 dollars approx. I don't really remember the exact amount anymore being in a foreign currency and all. It was a double or nothing and I won, so I had approx.1500 dollars of their money. I was near blind drunk, so I had virtuall zero nerves and I played an English hustler and I suppose his backer/friend IDK. I don't play that game, and in fact I actually hate it. I did everything wrong, but somehow got out on top. It doesn't matter how you play when you run out;). I remember gettin a whole lecture from a brit who had been watching the game. "You're not supposed to try to clear all the balls on your first visit", and other gems of that kind. I remember buying him tons of drinks to shut him up (it didn't work). Then I tried drinking him under the table. That didn't work either.

With various other games played earlier in the evening, an ill fated game of cards and the mother of all bar bills I cleared about 1200 dollars that night. Big score for a small fish like me. One of the most entertaining evenings of my life, and one I will remember for as long as I live (the pieces that are not lost to the alcohol). It did sour me on the card playing, though.

I've lost money gambling too. I lost about 500 dollars in an evening playing a top player with a monster spot (it didn't help me any, since it was earlier in my development as a player). I've played plenty for about 150-200 dollars. Won some, lost some. I won a set for 1k once, too, but I couldn't collect, because the guy simply refused to pay and he knew everyone in the place. I had no backup of any kind, and had to leave without the money. I don't really count that as a win:( I pretty much quit gambling after that, except small change with friends. I've also cut way back on the booze. I'm boring now!

Race to 5 one pocket for $10,000. Not sure if this will count, but I believe it should.

My best friend and I were headed to Atlantic City so on the way we decided to stop by the pool hall on the way. I was gonna pick up a $500 payment on some money that was owed to me so figured it never hurts to have another $500 on ya to send in😊. The guy I was picking my money up from was actually on a lunch break from his job and asked me if I wanted to play one quick set while he was on break and before we left for AC. We agreed to play one set of one pocket race to 3 for $300. I said cool why not. ( this guy was like an ATM for me honestly ).Anyway I won 3-0, shook hands and we all were fixen to go on our ways.

Another guy yells across the room " gimme 9-6 and ill try ya some" . I knew the guy that was doing the barking, but not well enough to know his exact speed to be able to match up. What I did know good and well though was his reputation for being AWESOME ACTION! I personally knew of quite a few times he had gone off for 5 figures. It was also verified several occasions he had went off for 6 figures. So when a guy like this is woofing at YOU, well it deserves at least a little friendly banter lol.

I told him mo way I'm spotting you 9-6 not have ever played you and honestly don't really know your true speed. The first guy ( ATM ) that I had just beaten out of the $300 pulls me to the side. He says you know that dude, you know he's great action. I said yeah that's great, he might lose a million but that doesn't mean anything if I'm getting raped! He says look, I think if you play good you can get there giving him 9-6. ( Now normally I wouldn't put too much into somebody steering me into a game with someone from THEIR home room and sees each other literally every day but with this dude it was different. He had steered me multiple times in games in his room and he had always been on the up & up and never put me in a bad game. ) So he says look just offer him 10-8 and see what he says. I know hos nose is open from a little earlier this afternoon just before you got here. He was like just shoot the $300 ya just took off me and If ya don't like it just get out.

So I did. I told the guy, " I said look I'm generally don't like going around spotting people that I don't know their game but ill try you 10-8, race to 3 for $300. And I'm also letting ya know up front if after the first set I don't like it I'm gonna pull up ". To my surprise he jumped out of his seat like he was on a spring lol. So fast in fact I thought to myself about the $300 - oh well, easy come easy go 😒.

Well, we flipped and I started absolutely crushing this guy from the very first game. Now what transpires next; before anyone says it, yes I was fully aware this was not smart gambling but you need to realize at this point in risking nothing other than the $300 I had just won in like a half hour and I knew I could very well be shooting a new car - literally. So starting right after the first set this guy wants to double up EVERY SET. We did not post because in the circles we both ran what we had been playing for was relatively low amounts of money and it would have been considered rude and honestly if I had started off asking him to post he prob would have been pissed and quit. After I win the first four sets ( he's paying off after each set ) I see his knot is depleted and at this point we were about to play the next set for $4800 so I politely told the guy the amounts are getting up there and I know you're more than good for it but id be more comfortable if we post from here on out. He says no problem, ill be back in 15 minutes - please don't go no where ill be right back.

So he indeed did return within the 15 minutes and quickly posted the $4800. I made quick work of this set too. He says the same thing, ill be right back in 15 minutes - please wait. He also was nice enough to inform me that I had his nose WIDE THE F OPEN!!!! As if I couldn't tell lol. So, he did in fact come back within the 15 minutes again - 10 minutes to be exact. But this time he did something different. He not only brought the $9600 post, but he brought it in a bag with A WHOLE BUNCH more money too. I guess he got tired of driving home after each set. I do not know exactly how much money was in the bag, but for sure it was more than enough to play at least several more sets ( doubling each time of course 😁) . Since the amount was at $9600 at this point we just decided to make it an even $10k to make the numbers even.

Unfortunately I lost this set. It could have been for a few different reasons. One, I had no intentions of even playing that day - I was hung over like a beech, I was going on two and a half hours sleep ( I had planned on sleeping on the ride to AC ) we had been playing all day an into the night at this point. All of this aside I think its this last thing that did me in : As it turns out I was very good friends with the owner of this room. He had came in a few hours prior to watch the action. When I finally lost a set, the owner pulled me to the side. He said look we've been friends a long time and I'm not gonna let you get robbed. He said look I didn't say anything because somehow you keep winning but this set you're gonna be going into YOUR pocket for the 10. He said I don't know how you got into this game but you've got NO BUSINESS spotting this guy anything! He told me a fair match up would us to play even. He said i do like yu even but you def are not supposd to be spotting him. Obviously on the trusted word of my friend; on top of everything us to boot, I pulled up. My opponent was totally cool. I guess he was just happy to get back to even and I'm sure he was surprised no one knocked the action the whole time anyway. He even paid the time ( he was $400 up ) without me even having a chance to pay. Anyway that's the story on my biggest action. I went to sleep in the car, woke up on AC. We played poker for 18 straight hours, had a great time after everything was said and done.

Played a couple of $10K sets when I was out on the road a long time ago. Won one, lost one.

Most pressure was playing a $500 set when I had less than $20 in my pocket. My road partner got in a wreck on the way to the pool room. He had all the money!

Ended up a $2K winner. Had to use all the winnings to get his truck fixed. LOL

My favourite gamble?

I've had a few nice touches challenging folks to clear the table before I can complete a Rubik's Cube. Specialist speedpool players often beat me, but it pays off four out of five on average.

i never played for large amounts because I never had the money to bet high.
but if you want to talk about pressure when i was 15-16 years old i already played pretty good and i would play adult men with no money in my pocket.
Try shooting a hard 9 ball when it's hill hill and your pocket has nothing but lint in it.

Played to 15 points for $1160 in my poolroom on my billiard table. Lost that day. Turns out the guy was a past New England 3 cushion champ. The hustler got hustled . It was 1971, when $1160 was big money. Johnnyt

Talk about playing for lots of money when you were young, I played a black guy called Youngblood when I was around 15 and working in a pool hall. I lost about $500 playing him 9-ball on a snooker table using the balls from a regular table.

He was slamming the balls in HARD and they weren't popping out. He didn't beat me every game, but I think he had an advantage. That was the first time I'd ever tried playing 9-ball on a snooker table.

Youngblood could do that, Bugs was also famous for that. How in the world can the balls be hit that hard and not bounce back.

Well, there is that one shot which I'm pretty sure Bugs must have made 1M in his lifetime on. Where he makes the shot that you have to scratch on, but hits the back of the pocket and rockets out while the object ball rockets into the corner pocket.

For sure he cleaned out 2 pool rooms in a few days of all the money there.

Biggest set I ever played was for $1300 double or nothing in a race to 7 9 ball, but I was up. Broke even, then still ended the night up 800.

During a set I played a 7 ball out for 600 once when a guy bet me I couldn't get out. I said oh really what for you want to bet? 600... okay bet...and he was wrong. I never felt pressure like that in my life and I was in line the whole way....it was a trip really.

My biggest moneygame is 400€ own money. I was up and opponent asked more handicap for race to seven 9-ball. So I gave him 3 because I was on fire. He was good player and he won flip and ran 3 racks and went 6-0 lead quickly. Then he had shot but he decided to play safe. I kicked ball in and ran the set out. He told he never will speak to me again. I saw him after some years and all he said "I will not speak to you".
My buddy had side bet also. I think it was 200.. Not sure though.

My biggest moneygame ever backed was about 3500 Finnish Money before Euro time. Today's money it is near 3000€ I think. I won it 7-1 or 7-0 not sure. Opponent wanted rematch for 10k but cancelled it after he found out who I was.
