The fellow on the start up page is wearing Billiard Glasses.

I've been wanting some for a while now, they don't look to bad.

Any of you guy's or girl's have them?

Do you like them and do they improve your game ??

I can't shoot with my regular glasses, so I take them off, then I can't see the balls as clearly as I would like.

Just wondering what you all might have to say??

Thanks,

A close friend (Optician and a good player) made me a set several years ago and they worked great ... Sadly, my right eye "went south" on me a couple years back and when my second surgery is completed in a month or so, he will have to make a new set for me (assuming I can still see out of that eye) ...

I know a couple other good players who have specially made glasses and they both wear them regularly for all Pool games ...

I have the Decot HYwide but they are a little scratched up. I just ordered a pair of glasses from that guy up in Canada, Dr. Harrison that is mentioned in the thread above and hope to get them next week. http://www.billiard-eyeglasses.com/

Bought mine here

So did Grady Mathews, per the ad on the web page. Best pool purchase I have made in a long time. They look a little goofy but are just the ticket. I explained to the optician what they would be used for and she took about .5 diopter off the perscription.

Dr Harrison is a very professional person and had them to me in less than a week. I had no problems with the service.

I have a pair of these too and they work great. However, I kinda like the look of the pair worn by the player on the AZ startup page.

Did you get any of the options?
  • Anti-reflection coating
  • Ultra-thin lenses
I've got a couple of pairs of low power reading glasses that work except, I get a reflection of the rim in the top of the lens on certain shots, which is annoying. I imagine that doesn't happen with these.

I got a pair from the Doc in Canada... they work great. Maybe just as important was the user-friendly service. Without belaboring the details, there were some shipping/customs difficulties getting them to me in the Bahamas. He went way beyond the "call of duty" to make it happen.
Good guy, wouldn't hesitate to point folks in his direction...

I am in the same boat as you, I am near sighted and really struggle to see the long shots, the balls get really fuzzy. I still would rather play with the balls looking blurry than have to wear my glasses and change my whole stance and they way I like to get down on the cue. I really haven't played much in the last year, but I am moving back to Ca. next month and I am going to have access to some really nice pool halls. I also have the oppurtunity to get Lasik paid for by the government at Travis AFB when I get there. I am excited about the prospect of playing pool with clear vision, something I've never really experienced.
I never considerred getting special glasses made, I still believe I would have to change my stance with them and they look ridicuous as well. I don't know if you are a good candidate for Lasik or contacts but its always something to look into.

I asked him about the ultra thin and he said with my prescription, I didn't need it. I did not get the anti reflection and he did not push it. Call him. Friendly guy.

If you don't want to or can't get contacts or surgery, these special glasses are your only option. I don't trust contacts or surgery, and have been wearing normal glasses all my life, and playing pool for 15 years with normal glasses. My vision is horrible, so I can't play at all without glasses.

When I got pool glasses, I couldn't believe what I had been missing regarding what I can see at the table. It literally improved my speed a ball in less than a month. It allowed me to lower my stance, and for the first time, I could see more than just one ball at a time. Meaning with normal glasses, if I looked at the cue ball, I couldn't see the object ball in the slightest. Likewise, if I looked at the object ball, I couldn't see the pocket in the slightest. Now with the pool glasses, I can see 2 of these objects at the same time.

There are many types of frames and lenses for these glasses. And the newere types don't look as bad as the older ones. But for most of us here, pool is paramount to looks.

Take another look at the two threads linked above. In those threads I have posted pictures of my glasses and gave specific instructions on how I had my optician custom make them. And as other posters have shown, there are many off the shelf solutions that work very well.

Let me reiterate for 15 years I played with normal glasses and didn't think there was ANY problem. I was just so used to them and my stance and eye patterns accommodated them. I then got my custom pair and that allowed me to change my stance, my eye patterns during stroking, and what I see when sighting a shot. The glasses were the turning point that allowed me to put my whole game together. If you need glasses and can't or don't want to go the contact or surgery route, you MUST get pool glasses!

I got the anti-reflective coating and glad I did. I agree with the prior post, I did not know how well I did not see on the table until I got the new glasses with the special "pool player" perscription. I haven't studied it but I know I make many more balls now.

I bought a pair of the Decot frames on e-bay. A friend who is an optician in the town made some lenses for me. They really make a difference since I can see again.....
