This would be awesome to have on your personal table. You could play against the robot instead of the ghost and have different skill level adjustments from "beginner to pro" and then when you think your a pro switch it to the "Efren" mode.

I will play it in an even game (9 ball, 8 ball, 1 pocket, 10 ball) if we could get it on tv.

I would make it more exciting than ken jennings vs jeopardy robot.

Considering that Deep Blue defeated Garry Kasparov and "Watson" completely owned the 2 greatest Jeopardy players ever, it's conceivable that once this thing is perfected, it might be capable of beating the top pros.

The computer is not gonna be picking its shots...it is human controlled. If the person vontrolling the robot does not understand patterns, shape, and how to run out...it does not matter how accurate it is

I bet it wouldn't be too hard for them to program some shot selection routines.

It would be like the old story of Willie playing Fats 1 pocket. Fats supposedly said "He doesn't understand the game or the moves or the strategy...he just keeps running out on me."

I just realized how bad I need one of these. Finally an opponent I have a chance at beating. It sure would beat knocking the balls around all by myself at home late at night..

After watching the video I am sure I can play the robot even. It has no chance of playing patterns. But WOW it us cool and I can't wait to see the next generation of the robot.

I can see this being a huge attraction at non-pool events like carnivals, fairs, expos, TV shows and such. Someone needs to get this thing an agent so it can promote the sport to the masses.

Here is the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ArBw9kEMMw&feature=player_embedded

The key phrase in my post was once it's perfected. No doubt that at this point it's merely a prototype. And if you've ever played any of the Virtual Pool games, then you would know that it IS possible to program pattern recognition, shape, and how to run out, so it's reasonable to believe that at one point down the road the computer may be able to recognize and pick its own shots. Just like chess and Jeopardy, pattern recognition and shot selection is just another form of artificial intelligence.
