Billiards Babe

SEX is being use as a Sales tool to reach all ages, from Pre TEEN to 80 y/o+.

Remember in the 50's when "I Love Lucy" was on TV, and it was a BIDG DEAL that "LUCY" was show Pregnant, and that was
milestone.gif
for her to be seen on TV Pregnant.

so just lts say times have changed, and not for the better as a friend who is an O/B Nurse in a Hospital in the Valley where they deliver a lot of babies to mothers who have not hit SWEET SIXTEEN.

People complain that pool is never marketed and then they complain about the "way" its marketed. At least its out there, no matter how they package it. And its been like this for some time. Jeannette and Jennifer did it too. Jen was in a playboy issue for christ sakes (not naked). So if you wanna complain call up those 2 girls first and tell em to knock it off. You cant fault marketing people for using sex to sell when the hot female players do it also.

It is difficult to express one's opinions on a forum sometimes.

The point of the thread was twofold.

One was to let folks know Jasmin will be on TV today.

I guess maybe I should have expressed myself in this way.

Why is the article entitled "Billiards Babe"?

Maybe they should have entitled the article "Billiards Champ"?

Again, I never, never, never, never said anything untoward about Jasmin.

The thread took some twists and turns, and for those who did not read the ENTIRE thread, maybe they misinterpreted some of the posts.

I don't know how else to explain my opinion about why I initiated this thread any more clearly, but I tried. I hope that this post right here will dispel any thoughts that I was talking in a derogatory manner about Jasmin. That certainly was not my intention.

JAM

JAM, I read what you posted and thought about it a lot....but only because I've seen your photo, you're my age, and I think you're hot!:grin-square:

Seriously, I don't think it has to be one or the other, sex or pool. Sex can be integrated with pool playing quite nicely, imho. Even Tiger is good looking, and that surely adds to his appeal to those who wouldn't otherwise follow golf. Jasmin, Jeanette, Ewa, all of 'em play great and are nice to look at, too. For what it's worth, the same thing is happening in the music biz, too. Yet, Britany can't sing and is losing market share, apparently. So, the two MUST go together or it won't last.

Jasmin is a fresh, young face with a body that yields a cue as well as the rest. How's that for an honest assemment and marketing campaign?

Im just joking Jam. I would much rather watch 2 top girl players duke it out, than two Playboy bunnies in bikini's, playing pool. I mean come on there is no contest pfffffft

And you're a liar or gay ;) I'm joking so don't kill me:grin-square:

I missed it

Brian, please re-read the thread. I am not upset at Jasmin one bit.

I was speaking about the way sex is used to sell pool. In addition, I mentioned that some avatars on this forum show women on pool tables in degrading positions.

Again, if you re-read this thread, I don't understand why you would think I am saying anything negative about Jasmin. On the contrary, I happen to like the fact that she is pretty and can play pool.

JAM

Will I missed it I guess. Where was sex used to sell pool? You showed a picture of Jasmin in normal dress playing pool and on a bike and an article titled Billiard Babe. That's sex?

The Article wasn't sexist, never mentioned sex and there isn't even a bikini shot of her bending over the table shooting.

You're basically upset over the title of a very tasteful pool article.

Well controversy or not, I didn't know about the pool on ESPN and I'm watchin' it now...so thanks for bringin' it to my attention....:)

Although I must add, I liked the pictures of the "black widow" on that site as well.

well Jam just gave me negative rep agian, for the 9th time in the last 2 months, no surprise there. Did she give any of the rest of you red rep? just curious. Long live the red rep queen.

She will I'm sure . I think she starts threads just so she can bad rep people that don't agree with her.

I think I need to put her back on my ignore list just because of her silly self portrait in her sig.

Better go check my rep for a JAM mark.

Did you see the bit in the first match where Johnny interrupted Wiseman in the middle of his stroke? Do you think he sharked him? He apologized profusely and I think of him as a good sport, but the timing of that was really suspicious (with Johnny down a few games and struggling). It almost cost Wiseman the match.

another opinion

I guess I agree with JAM that no one wants to acknowledge her point and simply let it be OK that she has an opinion. Everyone has one, they?re kind?a like elbows.

I personally don?t find the avatars a problem, but I think it is clear JAM does. I think she has the right to voice that.

I personally don?t have a problem with using sex (within bounds) as a ?come-on? to gain viewership but JAM does.

But, what JAM and I definitely do share is the idea that we would like to bring pool a little closer to mainstream, appeal to a broader demographic and get better advertisers interested in our audience. This being presented as possibly her underlying theme.

Unfortunately, I question whether the current level of sexual exploitation could earn a top ten position in the long list of issues that separate us from the mainstream today. This would be a thread I would be interested in posting for.

But that?s just my opinion. You be the judge.

Do as I Do, Not as I Say...

JAM,
If you don't like some of the avatars, as I don't, then do what I did and turn them off. It's somewhere in the UserCP (I'm sure you already know, but just in case), but I forget where and I am too lazy to look. (The fetching Mrs. PoolMan says I am almost to lazy to eat)

That way you miss all the disgusting ones. Granted, you don't get to see the good ones, but for me it is a good trade.

Reps.

I got bad rep from JAM Whaaahooo!!! LOL

That's right. I gave you RED rep for the nasty comment made about me on this thread; the personal attack, if you will, and I did receive your RED rep as well calling me a "retard." How juvenile.

Usually, people cry and whine about RED rep received because, in fact, they're hoping some members will give them GREEN rep to compensate. It's a move, a childish one at that.

I never dreamed this one thread would have caused so much consternation as it has.

Rep seems to be a popular topic of conversation on this forum, and so here's my 2 cents.

Interestingly, because of this thread, I have received one RED rep so far, and it was from you, Pii, in retaliation for the RED rep I gave you, of course.

However, I have received nine GREEN reps, six PMs, and one e-mail about this thread, one which I wish I had never initiated. One RED rep and one PM was from you, Pii, and you know what you wrote.

I cannot read all of the GREEN reps right now because they only show the most recent five reps. Before I logged out today, I had received five GREEN reps from this thread, but it has now multipled.

Here is one of the four PMs I got about this thread, name withheld intentionally: Hi I usually don't send notes but I thought it was important. I have been thinking of this for awhile and you post some great threads. I put you in the company of best of the best on azb.Your post are hard to misinterpret and it amazes me how often it happens. I could of written this as a reply to many posts but that seems to provide many people fuel for flame. I sometimes fear that you will get tired of this and quit, I hope that isn't the case because you write great, know what your talking about and by far most of us enjoy and respect your threads. Sorry for a PM but I thought it was important to support you. I have a feeling you get quite a few of these support notes....

And here are four of the most recent reps I received about this thread. Of course, you know what you wrote on the RED rep about this thread, but here's the GREEN rep about this thread, again, names withheld to protect the innocent:

Don't worry, most of us get what you are saying. It's just a few jerks trying to misrepresent your posts.

Your posts are always thoughtful and a joy to read.

I enjoy your posts. U have a heart of gold.

Please dont quit posting. You are my favorite posts.

Oh, yeah. Then there's the e-mail I got this morning, after this thread, again, with the name withheld : Nice Thread...Anyway, I continue to enjoy your posts and I hope the flamers don't get under your skin.

So there you have it, Pii. For every one of you, there's a couple dozen more who feel quite the opposite about me and what I write on this forum. I have learned how to step over the piles of sh*t posts written by trouble-makers like yourself. Usually, I don't respond to posts like yours about REP, but I just want to let you know that this forum is big enough for the two of us.

I understand that the REP system may be fun for some folks, but me personally, I wish they would dismantle it. It doesn't have the same effect anymore as it did when it was first initiated. Maybe they should have the point system reevaluated, and make it so that the points are equal in number to all. Today, a person can get 11 green squares in a day. When the rep system first started,on this forum, it took several months and even a year in some cases to get 11 green boxes. I digress and maybe this is the topic for another thread.

Thanks to all who GREEN-repped, PM'd, and e-mailed me. Your kind words are very much appreciated.

Jam,

I believe that one still has to see the advantages. Pool needs more media recognition, and as of now nobody has come along with a better way to get this media recognition. Currently, Tom Cruise is not planning another pool movie, so there seems little light at the end of the tunnel.

Just showing better pool does not seem to change the situation a bit.

I guess that it would be bad to market Jasmin Ouschan if there were

a) a way to better society as a whole - up to now, we know only methods that do not work
b) a better way to get media recognition for pool

The fact that this game of two good-looking women is shown on TV is not due to the fact that the producer is a sexist a..hole or generally a bad person. He just knows that people enjoy looking at pretty women doing sports and that a happy audience is good for his company.

So whom exactly do you blame and for what?

This is a very pragmatic approach, not an ideological one. However marketing and economics are pragmatic. And poolprofessionals need an economic foundation. If showing attractive women playing pool is good for TV coverage and also for Predator, it is good for the overall situation of professional pool.

Thanks to all for the green rep, pm's, and comments about this. lol, they make me laugh each time and I agree 100% with all of you.

I know the moderator(s) and at least one of your forum friends have respectfully requested for you to cease and desist with the forum games, especially against me. They have also written to me via PM to refrain from negative colloquy, moderator(s) and one of your forum friends.

I try to stay away from you, but you come on every thread I write on with a sarcastic remark, much like this one.

Why not follow the advice of the moderators and your friends. Maybe you would find some pleasure in posting about POOL instead of playing forum games, Tommy. I shall do the same and not respond to any of your posts. I think that it would preserve the integrity of the forum.

Here is another article about a female pro pool player entitled: "Anna Kostanian: Armenian Billiards HOT."

It is from the same website as the one entitled "Billiards Babe": http://sports.rightpundits.com/?p=880

At the bottom of this website, there are some more links about female sports figures.

More Women in Sports:

Anna Kournikova K-Swiss Ad Campaign (Photos)
Anna Benson - Hot Baseball Wife (Photos)
Anna Kournikova
Anna Chakvetadze in Bondage
Anna Kournikova is HOT at the Chanel Cruise Show
Anna Bessonova: Rhythmic Gymnast HOT (Photos and Video)

I guess the words "HOT" and "Bondage" and "Babe" are the societal norm for female sports figures today in 2008.

But before that you DID say (in specific reference to the article about Jasmin):

"It seems that in today's pool advertising market and media stream, sex sells more than good pool playing.

Now, I know this Billiards Babe can play her some good pool, but I personally can't stand seeing pool sold like this.

The article is completely focused on her pool playing, including the interview. The only mention of her physical appearance is the word "babe" in the title. C,mon, that 's pretty mild. In today's culture it's about like saying she's "cute".

I'm not denying that sex is overused in marketing, but this is hardly an example of that.

If you read all 100 posts on this thread -- maybe you have, I don't know -- Tom, I have tried to explain my opinon as clearly as possible. The thread then took some twists and turns.

I cannot post much today on this forum without it being scrutinized to the Nth Degree. The climate of the forum has changed in the last year or two.

In the words of an august and seasoned member, I should have replied: "LOL. I said it wrong."

LOL. I said it wrong.
