Billiards Babe

Sex is used on TV to sell many products. I just don't like seeing it used to sell pool, and I'll bet most of the lady pros don't like it either. I think they would rather be known for their pool-playing capabilities.

JAM

Oh come on JAM. Every Christmas the ladies get dressed up in sexy outfits for BILLIARDS DIGEST. And what about Jeannette Lee? She flaunts her ass around the pool table like a New York hooker, and loves every minute of it. I just love it when she plays in high heels - what do you women think when you see this? :bow-down:

We men - we see what the female pros are doing. I think you are projecting your views onto them a little too much.

You DON'T????????????

Perhaps you should look at the matches that ESPN chooses to play most. Last I saw, some of our more out of shape women pros don't get very much airtime. I'm not saying it's right, but I think we all know what ESPN has in mind by allowing women's pool what little airtime it gets.

Russ

Would you rather them show 1st and 2nd round matches that are not the top players????

Southpaw

It seems to me that most of the time it's the women themselves who promote themselves as 'sexy' if it works out to thier benefit. The one who prefer to promote thier pool game exclusively , do so. Beyond that , I not sure why it hurts the game , positive exposure of any kind only helps it over all.

If someone who never gave a crap about womans pool , never watched a broadcast or attended an event finally does so one day because he saw a "babe" being marketed in a promo/ad , raises the attendance , brings in more money and maybe develops into a new fan . . . is a bad thing ?

It a form of marketing , it works and it benfits everyone involved.

IMO.

The whole point I am getting from this post is that it should be about merit and not looks. How many of you would want people to look at you and say, damn that is a hot person and then ask you questions based on your looks? What you do in your daily life, you do for you. It is not how you look that makes you act and react with co-workers, other pool players, or store clerks, for that matter. It is on the inside. It is about who you are, not what you look like. Let's all work on our inner beauty, it will make us all better people in the long run. Speaking of long run, Rack 'em. lol

Russ I would be interested in knowing how you think ESPN decides which matches to film and then show? Whoever makes the TV rounds gets shown on TV because thats how its set up, doesn't matter if its a dog or a babe.

oh really looks dont count?

Would you go up to a dirty ugly toothless person and treat/talk to them the same as you would a good looking person? I think not. While it may not make a difference in how THEY act it certainly matters in how OTHER act towards them.

This entire thread is useless. Guys like to look at hot chicks and they always will, so sports marketing will always use that to sell their products. Period

Everyone come off their soapbox.

Everyone come off their soapbox.

The thread is about peoples thoughts, therefore not useless, maybe unneccesary. Agreed.

A soapbox is an opinion, we are allowed one.

Thank you for sharing yours.

Let me rephrase it then. This thread is unnecessary because it will change nothing. And instead of soapbox, what i shouldve said was. Everybody should come down off they're high horse and realize, thats the way the world is and deal with it.

If change was necessary for a thread, they'd all be about Obama.

Agreed, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. IMO

You know this forum would be much more pleasant and have about 140 less meaningless posts in the past 2 months if you two would just make a point to stay out of one another's threads.I'll preface this by saying that I like both of you. Please remember the following:
1. Everyone posts worthless crap every once in a while
2. Online it is a necessity to have a sense of humor
3. If you don't agree with something, that does not mean you have to make a post about it
4. If this must continue. The volleying back and forth could be restricted to just one thread and therefore every thread we read would not have to contain it... my vote to start a Why JAM and Corvette hate each other thread

My neck hurts from watching all this tennis!.... Lighten up!!.... I love reading this forum because it does make me laugh. :rotflmao: LMAO

Jam I don't think anyone hates you, I think SOME people just like to poke at others to annoy them :poke: to see what kind of response they can get.

***The title is Billiards Babe**** Babe is beautiful or Babe is baby Jas is very young. Read it as billiards babe (youngster, young to have accomplished). I read it as young and pretty and female. Everyone has their own opinion.

I believe that if the title or photos or other.... attracts young guys and girls into the sport we will see more youth getting involved. I think it is high time we bring pool back as a full professional sport and I will advertise but with dignity.

As far as the Avatars, I've already stated how I feel. If you feel the need to post something that "shocks" people or "nudity".... move your crap to someone else's site. The Forum is now linked to the "front page" of a professional billiards site. (Where you will not find SEX being sold on the front cover).

Sex does sell, watch the commercials during football season. Dolly Pardon will tell you flaunt it if you got it. Just because someone is pretty does not mean they have talent or skill. Jas is lucky she has both. I for one appreciate the fact that this is not a beauty contest and you have to earn your title.

Please ask the Moderators to move this thread to "Non Pool Related"topics. There is not one piece of technical and /or informative information about playing billiards or pocket pool throughout the entire thread.Merely using the words"billiard" or "pool" in a thread starter does not make the thread about either game. This thread seems to be about personal preferences relating to acceptable advertising and marketing concepts with just a hint of childishness thrown in for bad taste. At least if it were begun or moved to "NPR" I would not have seen it.Where is Bianca Beauchamp when you need her???

To be fair, asking for "informative information" is a rather high standard.

sorry, have to disagree with you here. look at the topics over on the NPR and you'll see this doesnt belong there. in fact this thread is all about pool. if fact its central to pool. if you want pool theory, techniques etc take a lesson. this thread is about advancing the sport. helping grow the sport in popularity and what the right way to do that is. it started out with jam posting something about one of pools young rising stars and whether or not jamsin was being exploited and lead into a large debate about what should be acceptable in marketing the sport. see it was all about pool.

btw i did note that you decided to add your own bit of "childishness" to the mix. hey its alright, we are all children at heart (or we should be).

just out of curiosity while "sex sells" seems to be offensive to some when female players are involved, would anyone be offended if cory or svb suddenly became sponsored by hanes and started appearing in ads playing pool in there boxer briefs?

just curious (or the heat is getting to me;) )

I do not look at NPR .That is why i would like to see this thread placed in the NPR section.Apparently you feel that wanting to read a billiards forum for technical information and pool theory etc is off base?If I want to learn I should take a lesson? Who stamped your visa? You state I added my own bit of childishness to the mix....clearly you have not seen a photo of Bianca Beauchamp! There is nothing childish about her!!!Somehow you actually believe this thread "is about advancing the sport".Were you dropped on your head as a child? This thread is complete fluff. It serves no purpose other then to reflect individuals feelings regarding advertising and marketing concepts as well as give individuals with personal disputes a public forum for dropping their pants.Banish this nonsense to the NPR section where opinions spring up like mushrooms in a cow pasture after a hard rain.
