Billy and Danny: The Voices of Accu-Stats

Well, well, well.
I wondered how long it would be before you started an argument again about someone.
Sure didn't take long. (I expect it to get worse, if the past is any indicator of your future behavior).
Your forced absence from here made this a better place, in my opinion.

Thank you for expressing your opinion!..Perhaps you should review this thread to see who was really the instigator!..I was merely echoing the sentiments of several others..Sorry if it did not meet your approval!

First let me say that I have been a strong supporter of the MIH events. Think I have only missed one, seen some great pool and that's for the whole package not just the stream. I really think it's time for someone to say " Thanks Danny, now why don't you sit back and take easy". Billy still seems ok, there must be someone out there that he can partner up with that would add to the event. I don't know if he would do it but I once heard Earl do some commentary and he was very good, I don't know how he gets along with Billy, maybe some else has an opinion on that. Jay Helfert is also a possible choice. In every sport there comes a time when a change is necessary, Madden, Gowdy, etc all knew when to let it go, Danny it's time.

Or, perhaps you have forgotten your own 'lame' argumentative attitude?

Im with you Lou.

I dont think either was as good with someone else.

That "magic" was most strong with Billy and Grady, with opposing views.

I miss it.

Yeah, they were really good together, Ken. Clearly a case of the sum bring greater than the parts.

Something I don't get.

If you have a man like Danny D., an 80+ yo champion and member of 2 halls of fame, who is still able and willing to show up for commentating duty even after some recent major health challenges, why can't people be gracious and give the man a break?

And the guys who like to sling the insults, ironically, could never have beat him getting the 6b. Or getting a nice spot in 1p, you know, "not his best game".

I say have a little respect for a guy who has been around a very long time and has accomplished way more in our sport than 99.9% of us ever will.

The mute button is always an option. ;)

I remember some time back Danny announcing that he would give free lessons to anyone who wanted up at his home room.

what a nice gesture.

I'd say he has a lot more fans than detractors.

When sports guys get too old they should become greeters at a casino :-)

In every walk of life there is a retirement age because skills decline. You don't keep someone around the office because they are "a legend."

Ah, duplicity....we all have that problem...biases and grudges not forgotten.
I think Lou is still miffed that Danny didn't remember him.
...and you and the Double D probably had words over one pocket in Arizona.

Well, I'm biased also....Danny is an old friend who would go to the wall for me....
..sometimes we have coffee on the patio, and in between giving me hell for smoking...
....he tells me a lot of good stories (not always about pool) and knowing I have an interest
in etymology, he has even elevated that part of my game.

So I'm applying for a license to drive a semi....when you and Lou are fixin' to cross a
busy highway.....look very carefully

Don't know why Danny would remember me in the first place so I have nothing to be miffed about. And I'm sure he's a hoot on the patio. In the booth, not so much.

I enjoy Danny but my favorite is Billy and Grady

I love Billy's precise talking style. Every word seems to have it place. "Archer is snookered and I'm not sure but the masse rail first shot may be available, with two rail position built-in on the five ball."

Both crack me up in every match. Like when Grady commented after a player bobbled in a shot "Well, that ball did go in, but he lost a little dignity on it."

One 1pocket match, with just a couple of balls left on the table, the player shooting chose a cross-over bank and passed on a spot shot and Grady commented, "That is cowardice of the first order."

SJD;

Two things you must also take into consideration, imo:

1: You are in the distinct minority with your view on Danny D's contributions behind the mic

2. His employer for this gig, Accu Stats Pat Fleming, seems to be very happy with Danny in this role.

Merry Christmas!

Don't mean we can't express an opinion.

Billy analyzes the play superbly and Danny gives you a sense of pool history, sharing anecdotes galore. These two fine men have stood the test of time as a team. We're lucky to have them.

Agreed, but does it have to include mean-edged comments about rocking chairs, running into traffic, and the like?

aimed at a hall of famer x 2.

Every time he says, "He didn't do much there. That was just a survival shot" when the shooter has no other option... he makes me want to run out into traffic, it is so inane.

And HOF should not grant automatic entry to the booth. It's not for everyone. Different skill set.

I disagree with this....DD is in three halls of fame.
...Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame...

When Danny was invited into a ring game....they had to be sure they specified 9-ball.

PS..And NO, lest you try to hustle me for a bet, I would not care to go a few rounds with him in the ring!.. But I'll bet big $$$$ I can 'out cuss' him!..And yes, I will be watching for wild semi driver's! :p

Pretty well everyone I know can out cuss Double D....
...there are many people that have known him longer than me that have never heard him
swear.

All n all, I like the fact that you are posting on AZ...regardless of your age...
...your wit is still keen and you have a lot to say.

I also feel the same way about Mr Diliberto...
...so I guess we'll both have to deal with it.

Merry Christmas, sir

Great commentators

I watched a 1998 one pocket tape of Jeremy Jones vs. Buddy Hall and Billy and Danny kept me laughing my ass off and really enjoying their commentary, great job by these two.

Yes, I recall the Beard telling stories about how often times, sore losers would make the mistake of thinking Danny was a 'sissy', because all he ever said when he got a bad roll, was "shucks" or "gosh dang it"!

Heres wishing you and your 'sissy friend', a very Merry Christmas from me and my two roomies!
