The "bunting" discourse is BS. Current pros have ridiculous speed control and can play with just as much power as pros past. The difference is with the modern (often longer) stroke and the lack of body movement it doesn't *look* like they're hitting it that hard.
Duong is a fantastic example.
They are hitting it "hard" relative to the speed of the table conditions.

That is no comparison to hitting it "hard" on a table that plays three times slower.
 
I was not talking about the cloth as much as the cushions on tables like Diamond and Rasson as examples- nobody can tell me that the older GC cushions were as fast as the two I just mentioned - these tables are much faster off the rail than the older tournament GCs
I could get 11 rails on the Anniversary table in the poolroom. Guess I'm crazy

If you think suddenly players have less power because they play on faster cloth, i can't help you.
You throw them on old cloth and table conditions and even Filler with his featherweight cue would be able to sling the cueball around the table without issue. The mechanics make it much easier to be accurate and control the speed at the same time.
